I've read there are a few different kinds of electro for hair removal. What are they and what is the differences?

Well Cassie,

To the best of my knowledge there are really only two types of electrolysis and then there is the laser hair removal which is developing and has several options in its field.

The two main types of electro are thermal and radio frequency - they both are applies to one hair at a time, a probe is slide into the follicle next to the hair and either a jolt of electricity (supplying heat) or a radio frequency pulse is sent through the wire to supply enough heat to burn the follicle so that it can no longer grow hair.

Now lasers work differently but apply the same principle - destroy the follicles by burning them.

There are 3 electrolysis methods:

Galvanic method - the galvanic method uses direct current.

Thermolysis Method - destroys the hair follicle by heat or electrocoagulation.

Blend Method - is the combination and simultaneous use of galvanic and thermolysis techniques.

The woman that does my electrolysis uses the blend method and from what i have read it is the best.

In order for laser to work you need fair colored skin and dark hair. I have had 9 laser sessions over the last 10 months, it did eliminate the dark hairs but the white ones remained so electrolysis was a must. Laser may or may not be permanent, the woman that does my laser uses a Yag unit. you can read more here.

If there is a trans group in your area you might ask around as to who they got to and wether the get laser, electrolysis or both and the cost.

For me i have paid over $3000.00 for laser and over 1500.00 on electrolysis but it was money well spent as my facial hair is not noticeable now even with not shaving a few days.
