I would love to help one whom is in need or wants advice with their bulimia problem. I have experience. Fortunately, with help from a dear friend, I managed to get a grip on it before it got out of hand. I was at it long enough to know/feel how warm n' welcome it presents itself but was lucky enough to notice the tears in the mirror that form not only from gagging yourself with a toothbrush, but the depreciation of soul involved. Please, feel welcome to post to my username or e-mail. I would love to try n' help.

Wonderful idea, PJ - having this site.

Here is a quiz site that everyone may be interested in - to see if you MIGHT have an Eating Disorder.

Update - it WILL ask you for your email address- but I have a 'throwaway' address I use for these kinds of things. I am not sure if they sell your info or not, but they have a few choices of bulletins and ads they send out, but you have a choice to accept them or not. I selected the diabetes one because it my be something I can use.

I took the test. - the result

You have a handle on the amount you eat and your feelings about yourself. Even though you watch your caloric intake and eat healthfully, you're not obsessed with your weight or everything that goes into your mouth. Because you think of food as fuel for your energy needs, not as something that needs to be restricted, you're less likely to abuse food. The love and respect you have for your body helps you to maintain your healthy habits and take care of yourself.

Lastly - it is on a WOMAN's heath site so the wording is somewhat oriented that way, but I suggest male minded people could easily take it as well.

I am not endorsing this site - just showing there is a way to see if you may be a person with a Food Disorder.

You don't have to qualify to post here and whether your weight loss is the result of an eating disoder depends on how and why it's happening.

I've lost about 200 lbs in 2 years. Not an eating disorder but getting healthy.

Though it could be argued that I had an eating disorder before I actually consumed fewer calories than many people half my size due to past dieting too much and too strictly. It's all in context I think

I came across your Weight Loss 101 thead, it seems interesting. I have been heavy all my life. I decided to loose weight in college, went from 203 to 169, I ate a small steak every day, and lost about 5 pounds a week. In two years I was back up to 230 pounds. Not good.

I need to loose weight badly. I was up to 265 at one point, and due to health and diabetes am back down to 230-235. I want to take it down even further, hopefully to stay this time. I really do not have a clue though, the previous experience 40 years ago has left me very uncertain about myself, it wasn't much fun.

Thing is, I'm not going to think about transitioning until I get this aspect of my life under control. I do not want to look like a bald fat man in a dress. I am not hideous, but I suspect that is going to be true if I start down the road without some preparation.

So a bit of advice please, start a new thread, keep posting here, or go for the other one. I am a moderator elsewhere, on my forum I would say to start a new thread, but I suspect it is going to be awful lonely there by myself. I will pick this up on whatever thread I decide to go with.

BTW, I am a stress eater. I don't usually pig out, but sugar free candy now and then does seem to be a weakness, the chocolate stuff is very good (about 70-100 calories each). On rare occassions I do binge, every couple of weeks or so. I am going to start walking a mile or two a day, and try to practice some portion control (both is probably going to be the hardest part).

I don't have an eating disorder per se. I've been seeing dietitian's throughout the last ten years. My weight continues to climb. I have a BMI of 47, I weigh 290 lbs and I'm only 5'6". Now I've been referred to bariatric clinic. Hopefully this will get my weight down. I'm 65 and diabetic. (Type 2). So time is running out.

I am taking several courses within the city to learn about weight loss and diabetes management and I have to have the surgery by June because when I turn 66 they will kick me out of the program. I have come to the realization since I started counseling that the extra weight is hurting me a lot more than I thought it was. I can't even do an effective job at cleaning my feet.Hopefully I will be able to conquer this issue sometime.

Nice to see this but it appears to have died four and a half years ago.  I'm a long time member of a 12 Step fellowship focused on food.  I know I've used food to soothe myself when feelings are too jagged to accept.  These are also times when I often turn to crossdressing for comfort.  I'm aware that bulimia and anorexia are often tied to self-loathing about one's body, for women but also for men.  Body dysmorphia can definitely complicate one's relationship to both gender and sexuality.  They are often associated with trauma.  I know that is the case in my situation.  For folks struggling with out of control eating or restricting, it would be good to speak with a therapist about what lies beneath the behaviors.

I hope this topic is not actually dead - I know the mother of a trans son and he is suffering from anorexia and I am concerned that this may be related to his gender dysphoria.  Can anyone offer any insights and whether she would be best getting advice from an organisation like mermaids - this is a UK based query.

I had anorexia when I was younger and yes it can be a sign of gender issues. I remember family trying to intervene and I was in denial. It took me bottoming out to finally do something about it. In those days the stigma was worse but if a gender specialist gender therapist is available and the trans son will go I think that would be a giant step forward. Someone outside the family he can build trust with and build on. I think t would be one of the best ways forward.

Good morning    I should not have said about sleeping in, now I have to go in 2 ½ hours earlier.  Oh well at least I. Off tomorrow and Monday, I think.as of now, hope I didn’t just jinx that too.     Hot today high 80s dropping quickly and rain to the 60s for a couple of days then more normal 70s.  It just depends on which way the wind blows. Off the gulf, hotter, off the ocean, cooler, out of the north rain and when they all converge, look out.  That’s today.   i made a pot of coffee but I think most of it is going to waste.  My wife went back to bed and I’m not good with coffee when I’m hot, and I am. That’s my fault, I was 4 days.late with my E again.  I just st have a really hard time keeping on a 10 day schedule.  And my reminders aren’t helping..   now I’m going to peak by tomorrow since it isn’t all absorbed in one day, I’ll hold fairly steady but if I’m late again I’ll drop well below my target yet again.     Im down in the valley, the valley so low But I see my true love, at the top of the hill i climb the mountain, but she is not there for she has gone back down, to the valley below   I didn’t come up with a refrain and with that I’m calling the guys with the padded cells. lol   Willow

It's funny with photos isn't it, how we think we look in them vs. how we actually do look in them! I'm hopeless at smiling and I have to try really hard not to frown or look like a zombie. I'm never sure how I come across to others.   I had a moment late last night when my eldest daughter facetimed my wife for some now forgotten reason, and when I was handed the tablet and talking to her, I was fixated on my image in the corner. My hair was wild at the time, I was a bit tipsy and all I saw was a woman! I have no idea what she saw in that context. I'll probably never know.

I hope to see you on the Zoom meeting tonight, April.  I might be late, since I am doing lights and sound for a play that opened last night.  I was home before ten last night, so I think I'll be able to make it.   Today is an anniversary for me.  Seven years ago today, I stood up at the weekly community kaffeeklatsch as <deadname> and announced that henceforth I would be Kathy.  It went as well as I could have imagined: there were some surprised looks, but no hostility and lots of support.  A whole layer of stress disappeared that day and has never come back.  (There have been other stresses, but that one is gone.)  I have been me full-time ever since that moment.

This is a scarily accurate description of what I feel!   I hope I don't sound too schmaltzy by saying this, but I remember when I signed up to this forum last year, during the sign-up process the question is asked, "Why do you want to join TransPulse?" to which I wrote, "Looking for a home where I can freely write about my issues and interact with similar people."    I think I just found one. ❤️

Good morning, everyone!! I was up early again - already on my third cup of coffee having walked/fed the dog and read the local paper.   We have a birthday party for a friend to go to this afternoon but no real plans otherwise.   I hope to be able to attend tonight's TGP Zoom session. It's been weeks since I've been able to participate with the illness/loss of our dog, two horrible colds in succession and our trip to chase the solar eclipse.   Have a wonderful day and look for the goodness in it.
