Hi Rachel!

Just received my first one a few weeks ago. tried it on a spot on my chest. Really stung! I got it back out again just a few days ago as I was seeing some growth on my arms and legs from shaving a week or so before. Again, it really stung, but the results are nice! Smoother than shaving, and much faster than plucking. I have not tried waxing, so I can't comment on that.

Hugs!

There is a huge diffrenec between quality and effectiveness between brands and designs. Having tried a Braun, Panasonic, and Emoji, I found th Emoji to work the best. The panasonic worked fairly well, but the cordless feature made the device unnecessarily difficult to use on large areas and the wet feature was virtually useless. The Braun was a POS.

More importantly, however, is that I find that a rotary epilator works very well on, for example, my arms. It does not work well on course hair such as my chest. It tends to cause ingrown hair that becomes unusually difficult to resolve, and for some reason tends to break course hair rather than remove it.

Rotary epilators are one of those things that you have to try yourself and see if it will work for you. I find that they don't hurt at all. The sensation is like being stung continuously (which is different from hurting)

Hi Rachel,

I have been using one for a few months. At first I had really bad ingrown hairs on my legs but I bought a Japanese exfoliating rag for $1.99 (at a Japanese Variety Store in town) and some exfoliating scrub $7, some alpha-hydroxy cream $6 and a small bottle of eucalytpis oil for about $7 and I no longer have ingrown hairs on my arms or legs. The bikini line seems to get them. The oil really works a treat. I have the enjoi and I found on the slower speeds the hairs come out by the roots better. Don't overdo it - it takes a while to learn. One thing, do it on a tiled floor so you can sweep/mop afterward. There will be a lot of hair. I had to throw out a bath mat because it just got yucky. Oddly, the underarms hurt the least and was the area most effective. I'm not entirely sold on the idea - the hair is still fairly dense. i epilate every week.

I'm currently using an Emjoi Caress and it's worked wonders for me. It removes hair for about a week and a half, and all the hairs coming back are really thin. I've had no ingrown hairs yet, and nothing like an infection. I don't even need to use scrubs or oils or anything and it works great. I can use it pretty much anywhere -- and everywhere cause I'm horridly hairy -- though, I don't think I'll use it with my face or my neck. Sensitive spots, like around the shoulders where the neck starts, really hurt, the first time. As you do it, the hair gets weaker and weaker, making it pretty easy. It's more like a tickling sensation on most of my body now, but for the first two or so times, I really just had to grit my teeth while going through it.

It's proved to be a bit more cost effective than shaving or waxing. While shaving is pretty easy, you have to do it constantly and there is always the freaking coarse stubble. Waxing is hard to do on your own. You need to be incredibly toned to do waxing on yourself, or you need another pair of hands. I really don't suggest it unless you can get help, otherwise I've had some basic waxing last me three weeks to a month, and that was before I started HRT.

Admittedly, it's really quite a slow process. I tend to use Saturdays, but it takes me a solid hour or two to get everything on my body smoothed out, and I look horrible right after because you get a bunch of nasty skin bumps. Save it for the evening before bed, make sure you shower before you use it -- let yourself dry though! -- and then go to town.

It's really going to suck that first time, I have to warn you. You might not be able to do your entire body because of the pain and losing motivation, but if you power through it, it gets so much easier.

It certainly could be classed as dark humor.  Unfortunately the sentiments alone must hurt young trans folks.  Decency and reality doesn't seem to be in the GOP's vocabulary.   Hugs,   Charlize

Good morning all,    It’s a frosty morning here the lawn looks silvery, and the uncovered spring flowers have icy edges on their leaves. The only flower bed I covered was my tulips. As nice as it is here during the day, our clear wind free nights allow the temperatures to drop into the mid twenties. Here in our growing zone it’s recommended that you not plant delicate plants until Mother’s Day. Central Indiana can have snow as late as the third week of May. The birds are active at the feeders, I’ve had my cup of yoghurt and morning meds. So I’ll sit here, drink coffee and watch the as the sunrise chases the frost from the yard.    @awkward-yet-sweet I could eat black eyed peas as a side for every meal. Boil them plain or with fatback. Served as a leftover, just add in a little Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies.  Make the best of your day,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Morning, y'all. Evening here; we had the regulation three mugs full today. Now it's time to drink something else.     No big plans here either, eldest daughter and granddaughter will be arriving on Saturday, and we will have our granddaughter to ourselves for a week after that. We still have plans though. Tuesday we'll go to the swim center, Wednesday we'll take a road trip to visit my mom, Thursday we'll get some mulch delivered to top up the gardens.   I still make other small plans on a daily basis though. The things I do plan nowadays, which is a bit new for me, is that after pinching a nerve and ending up in a bit of pain and getting some treatment from the physio, I am more motivated than ever to exercise more regularly. Tuesday for example, I went for a short (15 minute) early morning walk, went to the pool for some hydrotherapy, and mowed the lawns. Yesterday I did my exercise reps and spent some time on the exercise bike. Today, I went for a 45-minute walk, tomorrow I will do my reps again and go for a long bike ride. As long as I do at least one thing every day, right? The pleasing thing is that I'm losing weight! I blew out to above 95kg early in the year and I'm just under 91kg now. Yay me!

What one piece of advice would you give to beginning transitioners or considering transition?

Positive side of the mixed bag.

Boredom is an emotional state that comes when a person has nothing to do, and is not interested in anything. To stop boredom, most people do something to occupy or amuse themselves. The first known use of the word boredom is in the novel Bleak House by Charles Dickens, written in 1852, but the saying to be a bore had been used to mean "to be tiresome or dull" since 1768. When referring to the mind, boredom is a bad state in which the person feels a deep lack of interest in what is going on around them, and where it is hard to focus.
