"Do not be fooled by her looks. The body is just a shell." -- Worf

What a interesting quote. I was just watching some New Gen and noticed what he said.

Ah, the Klingons, the source of much hilarity. I really enjoyed the officer exchange episode where Riker was first officer aboard a Klingon ship. (A Matter Of Honour)

"Enterprise, this is Captain William Riker of the Klingon vessel Pagh. I order you to lower your shields and surrender."

As for Worf himself...

"Are you the son of Mogh?"

"Yes, I am."

"Is it true you can kill someone just by looking at them?"

"Only when I am angry."

- Gabriel and Worf, at their first meeting (DS9: "Children of Time")

"Definitely feeling aggressive tendencies, sir!"

- Worf to Picard while fighting the So'na drones (Star Trek: Insurrection)

How can you not love him? :P

But they could always surprise you at the most unexpected moments by being insightful, like that quote. Or by arguing that Shakespeare was one of theirs. :P

I love Worf, he's amusing. I remember that "body is just a shell" thing carries over to other eps, like when Klingons die they don't really care what happens the the body... I think I remember that right?

Don't let my nerdyness intimidate you(LOL funny how that works online as apposed to offline?) Star Trek is for all levels of nerdisum to enjoy...

He was one of my favorite characters in both New Gen and DS9.

They don't care what happens with their body. When they die, if others are still around them, other Klingon's might "howl" and morn for their death or at lest say something. They do this to "help them move onto the afterlife". Klingon's also have a issue with dieing in honor. If they don't die in honor family members or love ones will(hopefully) do something honorable to get them into Sto-vo-kor(the Klingon afterlife, kind of like their Heaven). It's very important to them.

Yes, I agree with the comments here. Worf was not only brave and smart, he was occasionally hilarious.

From DS-9:

Worf: I have a sense of humor. On the Enterprise, I was considered to be quite amusing.

Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax: That must've been one dull ship.

Worf: That is a joke. I get it. It is not funny, but I get it.

He really came into his own on that show. I miss it.

Love the DS9 episode, which they travelled back in time, to the original ST: Trouble with tribbles, that was the best DS9 episode, especially Worf's reaction the tribbles.

I remember when they were going to add Worf to DS9. I loved him on TNG, but I thought at the time, oh god, theyre going to screw up the great chemistry on DS9. But, it worked. And the last few episodes of DS9, with what happened to Worf, was off the charts. As for my favorite line, how could you guys not mention the line from "Qpid", where Q turned Picard into Robin Hood, and the command crew into his Merry Men. Worf had two great moments there- the line, "Sir I prosest! I am not a merry man!" And when Geordi started playing his mandolin, as Alan O'Dell, his reaction was a thing of beauty. Michael Dorn should have gotten an emmy just for being able to keep a straight face...

To my knowledge, Work (Michael Dorn) was IMMENSELY popular with viewers and Gene Roddenberry and the producers had the writers broaden and deepen his involvement in the show to give us viewers more of what we wanted, and we wanted Worf. He was awesome and truly one of my faves in the entire Star Trek saga.

Yours truly has been around long enough to have seem the ENTIRE Star Trek saga. Each show and the spin-off movies stands on its own, albeit very different, merits.

The original Star Trek was far and away my personal fave. For years afterwards, I rapturously watched reruns in syndication. Without waxing rhapsodic on you, suffice it to say that the bredth of conception of the storylines and the accuracy of the physics (extrapolated) were dealmakers of protean proportions in winning my lifelong allegiance to the original Star Trek show.

Best Star Trek movie?

My personal fave is "The Wrath of Khan" because it shows Captain James Tiberius Kirk and Mr. Spock and their Lennon-and-McCartney-like synergistic best agains a well-nigh implacable foe portrayed with transcendent brilliance by Ricardo Montalban. Just my opinion.

Okay, so I'm an ex-stoner latter-day-zoner. That would be about right.

Mr. Worf totally rocks! I love him! Love those reruns!

Starnerd Triva:

Which, of all the characters on all of the Star Trek shows, attained the very highest rank at the pinnacle of their career?

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie
