"coming Out" To My Dad And Step Mom

I've decided that I will tell my dad and step mom today that I was "diagnosed" with gender identity disorder. They dont know that I had been going to therapy so I guess that I will start from there.

I'm really nervous because my dad is very, not relgious but more conservative I guess you could say. My step mom is more on the religous side. When I was 15 I told them that I was gay (I thought I had myself figured out at that time), my dad didn't say anything right away but you could tell things were strained. A few weeks later my step mom made me meet with a priest.

Through out my last 2 years of highschool before I dropped out I constantly wore make up. and hair extenstions. We got in a huge fight over the way I chose to look and I moved out. It has been about 5 years since I have moved out, they just co-signed a loan for me and about a year ago got me a cart. Oddly enough they seem to favor me over my brother which in the past I was not exactly their pride and joy.

I am a free lance make up artist and im planning to go to school for esthiology soon and they know that. They have seen the photo's of me with exteme make up on and the photoshoots I have done.

I want to just explode. Writing a letter is not an option - I feel they deserve a little better than that and that would also allow me to interact with them better.

I get off of work now and I'm going over for coffee. I don't think I could even attempt to tell them before I get some sleep so it will have to wait tl after.

I'm choking up already. Any suggestions on how I can tell Them? How did you come out? What do I do if they react in a negative way?

I cannot give much real advice, being terrible at this kind of thing. I would suggest pointing out that the Bible does not say anything against transsexuality. Also, if it does not go as well as hoped, still make an effort. It sounds like they vaguely came to terms with your "gayness," so this too shall probably come to pass.

I've decided not to do it today. Call me a coward.

While we were having coffee we talked about me moving back to the "country" to get away from everything, they are aware how much stress I'm under with certain situations involving being around the wrong people again.

My dad suggested that I move to some land that he has and he will help me get a trailor to put on it. I'm not a huge fan of trailors but seriously - my own place! My own 1 bedroom, no one elses, get away from everyone, be more independant place. I'm thrilled. So thrilled I dont want to possibly ruine our time together today with coming out.

Lol yea. It seems like though everytime I want to tell them something like that happens. ill wait I guess until I get a solid stance on things.
