Do Anti-depressants "unnaturally" Surpress Mtf Feelings?

I've finally found a shrink who seems to know her psycho-pharmacology and whom I can trust. The meds that she has prescribed have had an almost unbelievable effect, i.e. allowing my mood to be to almost normal.

However, I have noticed a side effect in that my transgender feelings have diminished. I.e., I feel like a straight guy instead of a mtf lesbian. I know that I should regard this as a positive, yet it still feels, well, just plain wrong, and a large part of me absolutely hates it, and wishes that I still -totally and without a doubt- felt that I should be a woman.

Is this normal?

The truth is I have my own concerns about medication and I too belive I am a MTF Lesbian. are you positive it's the drugs? I've been through a great deal of stress and now I feel calm...not necassirly male but I'm not thinking about or feeling my trans feelings very strongly during this time. I think maybe your mind is allowing you to relax. to take a break.

She may know her drugs, but does she know gender? This is one of the reasons I prefer a therapist for these matters and not a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists a more prone to trying to fix you and cure you, which anyone who's been aroung long enough can tell you can't be done. Transsexualism isn't a mood disorder, it's a physical birth condition. The best way, the only way I dare say, to triumph is to embrace those feelings. Those feeling are the real you and by trying to rid yourself of them you are essentially trying to kill part of yourself. It's time to bring the inner conflict to an end. It's time to be you, the whole you and not just a shell.

My advice would be to see a GENDER therapist.

Be You.

It's difficult to give you a definite answer based on the information you provided. Anti-depressants personally did nothing for me in my teens. But back then I also didn't recognize my inner depression being related to transgender issues. Each individual person on this planet has different levels of brain chemistry, and that's why there are so many different kinds of anti depressants. To clump every medicine together and asking what affect it has can't lead to a very precise answer. If they are making you feel better, that's good. Just take one day at a time and see if your feelings persist or diminish.

I don't really know too much about anti-depressents except I refused to take them. Those are dangerous drugs dear, they can cause a lot of things to get muddled up in that head of yours. My advice is to ride this out as long as you feel is necessary, and yes please see a gender expert they can answer your questions. (if you can't find one in your area..there is a great Doctor online who you can talk with...I live in a pretty remote area and he's been able to talk with me over the internet/phone...also give me my letters of recommendation to start HRT. You can get to his site off of here or I think it's http://www.gendertherapist.com/index.html ). Anyway, only you know whats is right for you hun, do what you feel is right.

Peace, love, and health,

Alice

I personally am taking an anti-depressant, and i can tell you that for me it just helps to keep me from going off the deep end. I have also

found that it will not stop me from getting depressed over my gender issues.

I know you mean well, but you are giving advice that is very dangerous and will often result in death, so you ought be _extremely_ careful about who you give it to.

Personally, if it weren't for the anti-depressants that I'm taking, I would almost certainly be dead. Yeah, they do a lot to your head, but that's like saying oxygen does a lot to your body.

I don't know what your status is but.......

I have heard many people say that after they started HRT any need they had for anti-depressants disappeared.

My experience was I didn't know how chronically unhappy I was until I started HRT. It has made a tremendous difference, I even told my parents that HRT saved my life.

Food for thought.

I've been on a bunch of anti-depressants but I don't think they've ever really affected any Mtf feelings for me. Usually if anything, they seemed to make me think about it more and get more depressed. But I guess I only really take them now to help with anxiety.

In many ways, it doesn't matter, because without her I would almost certainly be dead, or if I were especially lucky, hospitalized.

you're so right. i've just decided i have to live my life as a woman instead of living a lie and not being true to myself. i am embracing those feeling inside me. it's weird that you are saying something to someone else and it applies to me in every sense of the word. i'm so tired of the inner conflict that's been haunting me all of my life, it's so great to have found a community of people who understand exactly what i'm going through. i feel so much like an outsider in our society.

Wow that is a high number for Estradiol good grief! Testosterone levels are better than mine. I don't remember my Estradiol level but testosterone was 80. To me that is really high but it was in the two hundreds the check in before last one.

I don't understand why this would make a difference being a "dad" I mean, as far as how they would grow.

I don't see why not. I have worn forms since I came out.

I have never worn breastforms, but I assume as long as they don't aggravate your nipples you could.

Every week I've been excited to take my shot, so it's never been an issue. Yesterday, however, I woke up and started my usual "slow roll" and then suddenly realized I had breakfast plans that I had to rush out the door for. After, it was straight into work calls, and then I got the notification from the doctor about things being too high and all the while my mind had completely slipped that I needed take my shot.   Given that I am not asking for medical advice, but sharing my journey, I will note my results: Estradiol at 447 pg/mL and Testosterone was 23 ng/dL, up and down from 26 pg/mL and 526 ng/dL respectively before treatment. Almost flipped the bit! The doc would like my Estradiol closer to 300 pg/mL, so we'll see what Monday's tests state.   Oh, and I teased the dinner with old soccer teammates and never updated the thread! It went well. There were a couple funny moments. One guy, who I was worried about their response, greeted me with "Hey, you've lost some weight!" 😎 And a friend who lives near me picked me up on the way to dinner exclaimed, after we learned one of the invitees might show up with a date, "Wait! We could have brought women?!" To which I instantly responded, "You kind of did, bringing me!" Everyone got a good laugh out of that. 😁

To me there isn't that much difference other the measurement, which side the zipper is on and men's pants have bigger pockets.

I hope this is not stupid question..I have yet to start n not sure if doc will approve..but once you start growing buds n such, can you still wear forms to get to the size you were?   I'm a dad, so when I start blossoms they will be smaller for a long time n probably need surgical augmented..that's fine. I don't want to go ddd to aa to ddd..   any ideas?   thank you

I like them too.  We had them growing up.  But my father's family were Swedes.

Oh my!  I guess it just goes to show how different tastes can be. Since we don't live near the ocean, Seafood is a rare luxury. We absolutely love pickled herring! Especially my husband and my GF, I guess it's a Ferman/Russian cultural thing.  But most of the kids like it too, and a jar wouldn't last in the pantry for long 😆

I think the key to that is just not minding eating the same thing repeatedly. Since we produce a lot of our own food here, we end up eating what is in season at the moment. So, when the yellow squash is ripening, we end up fixing squash 20 different ways. When the strawberries are ready, we eat lots of strawberries. It's kind of a different mindset to eat in season when it has become such a part of American culture but the grocery store has everything we want all the time. Like grapes in December.  My family does even things out a little bit by having a greenhouse so we have some fresh things in the winter, but it's not a 100% fix.

My brothers and I had to eat what was on the plate.  All of it, and nothing else.  Pickiness was not tolerated.  Some of our least favourite were liver and onions, sauerkraut, and especially rollmops (pickled herring).  We finally protested enough to persuade our mother not to serve rollmops, though she kept a jar in the pantry for years afterwards, as a threat if we didn't behave.

I'll go first.  My favorite team is the Yankees.  Loved them since I was a kid.  I was born in NYC so, yeah.  I know everyone loves to hate them, and that's OK.  I just love baseball in general.  It's a game of traditions, strategy, power, grace and skill.   Play Ball!!  ⚾   Carolyn Marie

I guess you do have a good point. It's just hard to try and not have the same meals over and over again.

Hi   I’ll weigh in on being picky about food.  Yes, and I was brought up that way.  We didn’t have to eat everything our parents ate.  They had a number of things they ate that they figured we wouldn’t eat, an acquired taste things or one or the other didn’t like them too.   even as an adult there are many things I won’t eat.  In my defense, there are different things my wife won’t eat.   the weird thing is that after being in E, my tastes have changed.  Sweet, sour, salty or bland, if I eat or drink too much of any one thing and I have to counter act it.   Willow
