Removing Muscle Mass

I have a large build, correction, I have an extra large build. I wasn't always this way, I filled out in my late twenties with a sudden burst of testosterone (naturally occurring). I have the type of body many bodybuilders would die for, I can put on bulk just lifting a pencil.

Needless to say I do not want this bulk. I understand that on HRT the muscles get softer but without the right excercise they'll probably just turn to flab and look unattractive while wreaking havoc on my health. Unused muscle mass is bad for your cardiovascular system. I'm also afraid it may prevent me from even receiving HRT since a local TW was just turned down based on her BMI and my BMI is quite high mostly due to the weight of all this muscle.

So the big question is how do I remove this muscle mass? I've heard it said by a bodybuilder that it actaully needs to be excercised off, so what excercises can I do to take it off?

I'm doing loads of running, and haven't done an upper body strength workout in about a year. I notice a decrease in strength, although it's hard to tell how much muscle mass I've lost. I'm looking forward to getting on T-blockers and E to help that nasty muscle turn into feminine curves though...

Hi Jamie,

In my distant past, while in the USMC, one of the ways I noticed some fellow marines lose weight and they were bodybuilders, is less calories of a good kind and more cardio, so they could get ripped. I would say diet is the major component, but diet in a semi severe way. Also exercise your lower body, since the female figure is .70 for ideal figure, or 29.5 waist/42 inch thighs(i.e.hips width) and thigh ratio/height or lets say 21 inch thighs/70 inches= .28-.30. I gleaned this information from the internet, can't locate appropriate scholary source, but it seems legit, or earily sound logic to a degree from what I have seen. I guess more research will turn up something, but its up to the person who wants that information.

Here's part of the reference,

Eye-tracking of men's preferences for waist-to-hip ratio and breast size of women

Archives of Sexual Behavior. 2011 Feb;40(1):43-50. Epub 2009 Aug 18

and the title of a popular resource

Scientific formula for the perfect hourglass figure, mentioning Dr. David Holmes from the University Manchester, UK,

curious enough, I was not able to find literature of Dr.Holmes mentioning his research, but David Buss has loads of information on it, I think I remember reading something about it in my graduate studies somewhere.

Just my 2 cents, maybe I'm wrong posting this subject here, hmmm, here goes anyway.

P.S. Oh yea, don't exercise much the upper body.

YMMV

Cardio, and starvation in limited amounts.

The body will burn muscle and fat at the same time once it runs out of short term energy stores. Every source I've read indicates excessive starvation results in death. :poster_oops: That said restricted calories does removes fat weight, more restricted calories removes muscle. When I started my diet a couple months ago I was losing too fast so now I'm eating some more. I'm at round 1800 calorie average, as shown at 176lbs, losing around 4lbs a month now.

To maintain cardio health, my preferred exercise is biking, it also has the happy fact of not working the upper body as said by Sonadora. The fact is though to hit my goal as shown, muscle loss is required too. Frankly I may reset my goal lower than 145 lbs when I get there if my desired result is not achieved. The idea then is to actually regain weight slowly to a true long term goal of around 165 lbs. The expectation is that as one would regain weight it may be built back in a more feminine manner. I have run the plan by my primary doctor, he thinks it might work, and has no objection to trying within the parameters I have (210 ->145 ->165 lbs permanent)

I'm running a half marathon on Sunday. After that, I'm going to drop back from running 6 days/week to 4 days/week, with yoga twice/week and stretching on the other day. This will keep my calorie burn up, stretch out my muscles, make me more limber/supple, and give my body some tone without bulking up. I need to continue dieting down to a somewhat lower weight - as male, and 6'1", I had a goal of 185 lbs. As a female at the same height, I am aiming for something more along the lines of 165 lbs, mostly through less muscle but more fat, so that I actually should look less thin, but still toned.

Of course, I need to conrol the eating too...

Love and hugs, Tami

Thanks Tami.

I'm trying to find some time where I can fit in exercise. Right now I'm a stay at home 'dad' (my boys don't know what is happening) and they keep me pretty busy. Been invited to join a local group to play squash and I'm hoping my wife will let me.

I was at 231lbs just a couple months ago but I've come down to 209lbs. My height is 5'10" but my shoulders are very wide. Right now my BMI is 30 but honestly I don't put much weight in the BMI, no pun intended. My goal to is go down to 165-170. I've had my weight down there before but I honestly think I looked gaunt. Sometimes I wish I had transitioned twenty years ago when my features were so much smaller, I would have had better luck passing. But I feel guilty wishing backwards like that since if I had transitioned then I wouldn't have my family now and I think the world of them.

Personally i think the BMI is a joke

Every time i go to my Dr, they weigh and measure me and that combined with being small boned always gives me a high BMI

They put no consideration into the fact that i have very little body fat

I'm 6' and 185 which is about ten pounds more than i weighed when i got out of High School

Considering that i'm 53 i don't think it's too bad

Thinking i'd like to get down to around 150 on HRT

We'll see how that goes

To reach a BMI of 25 I would have to get my weight down to 165. I'm currently at 210 lbs and have a smaller gut than most males my age, in fact I can wear a t-shirt and still look slim. I've been down to 175lbs in the past and I looked gaunt and unhealthy.

The BMI does not consider shoulder width, bone density or muscle mass, it is totally irrelative to the actual % of fat in a person's body. Someone recently told me it was created by insurance companies as a way of declining coverage or charging higher rates.

Swimming, if you can manage it, stretches muscles too, resulting in a less bulky appearance, more slender appearance. Something to consider.

google Renee Reyes. she is post op and was built like a line backer. but talks about diet and exercize that slim the upperbody.

Yes LizMarie, Absolutely yes. And oh the swim suits! The mind therapy is wonderful too, seeing a graceful new body moving through the water and realizing it's God's gift to ME!

Carolynn, That is a great site and one that helped me realize I could take my new journey. I read every word.

Melissa, I am really interested in the results, I'm about the same size and never could get down past 187lbs. Feel free to PM me.

Thanks all. Hug. Jody

Hi, Tami. How old are your boys and how many? If they are really little, try a double-seater jogging stroller. For bigger ones, take a look at what I would call a "tagalong" bike. These are the ones where the kids have peddles and handlebars but they are attached to the back of your bike and the handlebars are only there for support. If they are older and good bikers, perhaps you could all bike together. Hiking gives a woman lovely, well-defined legs and is something kids often enjoy. I know you're just finishing up winter (I have family in NZ) but have you thought of trying skiing as a family sport? Skiing is expensive but you're reputed to have absolutely fantastic skiing in your country.

Jamie,

Many have already stated the ways to loose muscle mass: decrease caloric intake, aerobic exercises, skip the weight training etc. Here is a link to exercises to give you a more femanine figure:

[edited non transgender video] YouTube, search for Bombshell Body Workout

I have icorporated this into my exercise routine. Good luck to you an me.

https://apnews.com/article/title-ix-sexual-assault-transgender-sports-d0fc0ab7515de02b8e4403d0481dc1e7   The revised regulations don't touch on trans athletes; which I totally understand, as that's become a third rail issue and this is an election year.  But the other changes seem pretty sensible, and will obviously result in immediate right wing lawsuits.   Carolyn Marie

They may win a few battles but not the war! as @Davie pointed out there is little truth if it full of lies, inconsistencies, and ignores evidence to the contrary. I saw this article earlier and have to agree here. Truth will win. This isn’t the first time this tactic has been tried. Always stick with the truth!

good evening   good day at work today.  I did do some things a little out of normal but everything was completed successfully.  As I said earlier, the Asst Mgr was my second today.  I don’t think she was too happy about that.  Several customers asked her where Richard was her answer was the manager cut his hours.  Well that is only part of the story,  his hours were cut just like mine were and several others but in his case he made demands about his hours that couldn’t be met.  But instead of making some non complaining remark about it she made sure to lay it all on the manager, thus throwing the manager under the bus.  Similarly when asked why she hadn’t been at work early mornings, she said she was being punished by the manager.  Well that’s partly true, she wouldn’t do what the manager told her to do so she took her off opening.  But secondarily she didn’t have a car to drive temporarily.  You can’t open the store without a car because who ever opens has tasks that require them to leave the store, so it was  at least partly her own fault.  But she chose to throw the manager under the bus for that.  I think she is asking to be fired for insubordination.  And if the manager gets these conversations off the security tape tomorrow she just might get her wish.   im pretty close to being ready to take the asst position but there isn’t anyone ready to take over my job, at least not at our store.  I suppose the other shift lead could if she is able to work earlier shifts and if the other closers were just a bit more reliable.   Ive been wanting some homefried chicken.  We found a BBQ place not far away that had such a chicken but I is made fresh when ordered so it has a 30 minute wait.  It was worth the wait and the other things we tried were also good.  Another restaurant on the list.  At least half of what we ordered came home for another meal.   i get to sleep in tomorrow, I go to work at 1:30!   Willow

It was nine thirty.  Saturday morning had rolled around more quickly than Taylor could believe.  She groaned, whined, thought of a million excuses why she should just stay in bed and knock the alarm across the room.  But it would still be going on, and so would the promise to Bob: when the gi came in, she would be in. There it was in its nice package, out where she could not miss it.  Why didn't she hide it?  She shook her head.   Up she got.  Sometimes you just do.  Her hair was a wreck. She patted it down and went to the bathroom.  Nine forty five. Shower later. No make up. She hated kara-tay especially at an ungodly early hour on a Saturday morning. Bagel. Instant coffee.  She was five minutes away when she realized she had forgotten the gi.  Back she went.   Into the dojo.  She had about five minutes to get the gi on.  She attempted to slip in unnoticed and go to the little restroom. Someone barked something out in Japanese or something, and there was a dead silence.  She turned to see what was going on. Both classes were getting into their lines, but everyone, including Bob, was bowing slightly. To her. Bob nodded, and she returned the bow.  Life started again. She was touched.   Bowing three times. Oath. Kata.  She was facing off with Judy as her partner.  Judy looked worried.   "Sometimes you just gotta pick yourself up and try again," Taylor told her. She nodded. "Let's do this."   Lunge punch and lower block.  They traded off like nothing had happened the last weekend.  Lunge punch and middle block. Lunge punch and upper block.  It was kind of like dancing. Taylor enjoyed it.  She wanted to learn more.  Brown-belt Maggie adjusted position of limbs and hips for both Taylor and Judy, telling them when she was about to do something: elbow up a bit".    "How'd you do?" Bob asked her later.  They had both gone home and showered. Now they were in a booth at a fast food place.   "I was kind of disappointed class ended. I was ready for more."   "That's my trooper."   "I'm not allowing you in my apartment until we are married," she said suddenly.   "You think I am a problem?"   "No.  I think you are safe. You passed the test  I am the problem here."   "Okay."   "What did the doctor tell you?"   "It's complicated.  More tests coming.  Like getting into college.  I got a letter back.  It seems there is this big fat M on my transcript and my current picture is not an M type picture.  I have to write a letter and send them notarized proofs and stuff. Just delays. This is a pain. Nothing cut and dried."   "I will say.  I'm glad I'm not transgender."   "Hah. You are pulled into my world.  You are involved in this stuff as much as I am, and, as you put it, of your own free will."   "You are worth it."   "I hope so."   "I know so."

On the way back to her desk she was interrupted by six short, urgent conversations that had to be attended to. Then she slipped into the women's room and locked the stall door.  She took a deep breath, then another, and allowed herself to shake for five minutes,  Then deep breathing, ten in and ten out, stretch up, touch the floor, neck rolls and she was fine. She used the toilet and a woman knocked and said, "Taylor, are you okay?"   "Ready to conquer the world!"  on her way out she found her makeup was fine.  Three stalls, two sinks.  If she ever designed a women's room with three stalls, there would be four sinks, with plenty of space to plunk your stuff down between them.   She met a deferential Karen.  "Here is the branding I came up with," she said.  And she went back to working as hard as Brenda and Mary, who looked up worriedly and then went back to the proposal.   Shortly before 5:00 she received an email with the title Consolidation and Compensation.  In it she learned that the position of office manager was eliminated, and the current office manager was to become the chief executive officer. The former CEO, along with the CFO, the chief legal officer, and sundry staff, had been terminated, per the Board of Directors.  Effective immediately everyone would receive a base salary of $20,000 with a commission to be set by the individual's supervisor.  Each supervisor would be given a certain percentage to distribute.  Most functions they had been handled would be outsourced as needed.   "The question of what profit was made last year is frequent enough to be answered.  The company lost over 500,000 in fiscal 2023.  At this point further cuts are not anticipated.  We will be strategically adding positions that will enhance our profits. Hard work is expected of everyone."   Her two web guys had been complaining because their games had been remotely uninstalled.  After the memo came out they were absolutely silent.  That gave her an idea, and after an exchange of emails they were reassigned to maintenance out at the plant, effective tomorrow morning.  There were lots of weeds that needed pulling, if nothing else. That email went out after they left early, for the day.  The maintenance foreman was a no-nonsense type who did not tolerate slacking, and they would learn a thing or two.  This also freed up two spaces for her to put new people.

So…I didn’t know your Facebook avatar was public. So, on my birthday, a couple people used a group avatar message to wish me a happy birthday…and now my Facebook friends can see a short video of my female avatar dancing with an old friend’s and another with my uncle’s avatars. So am I “Facebook out” now? 😬

No, they are not. Truth wins in the end and this report is full of lies that poison the whole thing: see this: "Dr. Cass Backpedals From Review: HRT, Blockers Should Be Made Available it's said. Dr. Cass's latest statements are likely to cast more doubt on the validity of the study, which has come under fire for disregarding substantial evidence on trans care." https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/dr-cass-backpedals-from-review-hrt?publication_id=994764&post_id=143743897&isFreemail=true&r=rebf4&triedRedirect=true I hope Dr. Cass wins The Mengele Award for it.

By which I mean there is a cultural stereotype of what a man is, and one of what a woman is.  Even worse, of what a transgender person is.   You be you.   I read of a boy who thought he was a girl because he did not adhere to some (rather toxic) conceptions of what it means to be a man, so he decided he was a girl.  He was told he didn't have to conform to stereotype and got happy. "You mean I don't have to transition?" He didn't want to, and was relieved.   Once upon a time if you were transgender they told you either you transition or die.   Incorporate the best of what it means to be a man and the best of what it means to be a woman as much as you possibly can, and let the rest go.  Be fully human. Be alive. Don't conform to some cultural crud.
