The Undesirable King

He closes his eyes and picks up the knife

Wonders what he did to deserve this life

''You must be our Queen!'' the crowd shouts madly

He knows that with time, he can find the key

To his very existence, his core, his being

And why he feels like he must be King

The crown on his head is too dainty and sweet

As he perches perilously at the edge of his seat.

''Why can't you see?'' he begs mercy of them all

But he knows in his heart that they want to see him fall

It's simple to his exhausted eyes, clear as a bell

He's down here on earth in his own personal Hell.

''How can I survive?'' he wonders to himself,

''It isn't as simple as putting myself up on a shelf....''

So with a sigh he takes off his crown,

Takes off his dress and off comes his frown

He smiles tentatively as he binds down his chest

Now he knows he fits in among all the rest

He laughs deeply and slips on his kingly robes

Which feel much more welcoming than previous probes;

And he smiles really wide, strides to the window,

''I am who I am, this this much I know;

I may not be desirable to your eyes, I understand

But for my display of bravery, may I please have a hand?''

And the crowd, how they cheer! For this King they now love

As he looks down on his people, content up above.
