Quitting Nicotine For Good (again).

Ok, it's like 6 P.M EST, Feb 20, 2009, and I decided today i'd try quitting cigarettes on February 25th, for that Lent thingy. But that eager part of my mind came up again out of nowhere like it always does and cried 'whyyy wait? Hello. I'm choking on this %^$@ with every puff! Are you stupid or what?' So here i am, with no clue whatsoever, trying to go cold turkey (yet again!)

But oooo, i do kinda have 'some' plan this time! What is that you might ask?

#1 I'm posting my 'quitting' here on the forums for one, which means i'll have to come back and tearfully tell everyone i couldn't do it (again). That would so suck!

#2. I tried this the other night, but it was with only half finished butts. I've actually saved my last cigarette from my last pack, and am going to cover the pack in tape and bury it with topsoil in a small box. Kinda like burying my addiction. Just a little Wiccan magic. lol. Noooo, i won't go to hell for it! Please believe me!!!

3#. I'm going to rant and rave like crazy in this thread until 72 hours have passed, when i can safely say there's no more nicotine left in my body. Not now or ever again!!!

So will this whole thing work? It's been 45 minutes since my last smoke. hmmm, Well I'd better get to work on my nicotine coffin. Oh no, i'm already having a craving. EEEk.

Ok, 6:35 P.M EST, Feb 20, 2009 was my very last smoke!!! Cough cough. Really!!! Can't go back once i submit this thread!!! Yay!!!

I'll post again in 1 hour (starts timer. tick tick...)

Congrats on stopping. It is a really horrible, stinky, disgusting, unhealthy habit. I can't understand why so many people try it and get hooked. Keep up the good work, and stay away from those cigarettes!

Hi Kitten...I'm sooo with you girlicon12.gifI quit just before Thanksgiving...the second time...cigarettes the first, never smoked them again...argh, started cigars a couple of years later for no good reason...and have been free of thechain since then. We are pulling for you girl...you CAN DO IT!!! B) It's so much cooler and things just SMELL so much nicer too, Kelly Ann (stay away from the snacks though)

until you settle out the snackies are a no no Kitten...ok a smidgen of chocolate...but be aware...that horrible chemical, nicotine, is flushing out of you and the co-dons are more receptive to EVERYTHING...this time was easier...when I stopped cigarettes I went from 150/5 to 210...that is a major change in lifestyle that I have had to battle against. Go with smaller meals more often, no sodas/ect water preferably...stay away from the snacks q}-; no ice cream!!! LOL...it's terrible until you get you system back to reality...it takes a while...keep 'em in packed in tape and buried with topsoil in a small box. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

You will beat it! The thing is that you and I wanted it so bad, and now you and I can beat it together..Ok, I quit!

How about you:? This is tough stuff.. I understand...

You and me will get past this ,don't you agree??

We will.

Oks, its now 11 P.M EST, and i relapsed after 4 1/2 hours. GrRRRRRR. I blame the chocolates! But i don't care. I'm going to bed in 1 hour, and will have 8 hours smokeless by morning to get me started again. I went 24 hours just last week, and 48 hours just before x-mas, so i know i can make that 72. I just know it!!! :o

Hehe. It was really funny. I was feeling good, on my computer, then suddenly my mind went blank and i started walking like a zombie to the buried cigarette pack!!! So much for all my hard work taping it up and stuff! Well it won't happen AGAIN, cuz tossed both it and my lighter down my apartment's garbage chute this time :P Finished. Done. blah blah blah... and besides, i'm broke now to buy another pack unless i dive into my moving savings. Hmmm.. what's more important, cigarettes or transition? :lol:B)

Britany,

Stay away from your transitioning money!

It is far more important to you than cigarettes.

You can do it, I know you can and more importantly, you know you can.

Love ya,

Yeps! Well i've been telling myself this one word 'perspective' over and over in my head since last night. My new perspective or perception is that i'll never smoke again, and never did smoke. Not really a lie with that second thought either, because it was always a part of me that wasn't the real me. So.. :P

A couple of hints if I may.. being about 80% of the way to quitting myself.

First thing i you really have to want to pack them in.. I do and so it's not that hard to survive 12 or more hours without nibbling on things or getting to anxious.

I always try to end the day with none in the house. If there are none when I get out of bed it breaks that "first smoke" cycle and I find I can go longer each day before I just have to have one. Today I got to 6pm before somebody gave me a smoke.. I don't have any in the house.. just half the one I was given earlier for "emergencies"

I tried gong cold turkey at new year.. and I made it 4 days becoming increasingly ratty and unpleasant to be around :) Some people can do the cold quit.. but not me.. I have decided to wean myself off gradually and it seems to be working so far. I have been in the shop today and managed to leave with my shopping and no smokes.. I didn't want any so I didn't buy any. I have been thinking about giving the gum a try.. but I am from the generation who don't chew.. it was considered a horrible habit when I was young where smoking was socially more acceptable.. how times have changed.

I don't actually know why I started smoking at 22.. probably a result of the drugs culture I lived in. I quit those.. so apart from feeling like cigarettes are addicted to me (not the other wqy round) I know it is only a habit with a small physical addiction added.. but mostly a habit, like biting nails or something like it. When I catch my hands reaching for a smoke now I get up and do something else.. It seems like a habit you can catch and be aware of.. and so it can be broken...

Good luck.. It's hard, but it is possible. Don't punish yourself if you slip a few times.. a few more won't kill you (or me) after all the years so far and it does get easier.. or it feels like it does XD

Good luck to you too Julia!!! Yea, i've slipped so many times over the past year even with intentionally going between 18-48 hours smokeless on quite a few occasions. I'm about 18 hours nic free right now, and praying for that 72 hours! It would be only the second or third time since starting at age 19 for making 3 days or longer. and never more than 1 week. to think i've been an 8 year smoker. yuck!!! :o

$#@@. Ok, it was nice short run...but i just had a really bad trigger hit me. I did some yoga practice, god it felt great, then decided to go for a walk and breathe the clean air of 2 days with minimal nicotine intake (like less than 2 smokes). I took my electric razor, and felt so gross that i had to shave, so gross that i had hairs growing out of my face and neck that i had to go find a butt. I need to buy a pack now... :( when does Lent start? It's going to be my next attempt. Noo, i'm not giving up on this thread, but i just feel so ugly right now i can't help it.

Love it! This is great news. We need more of this to combat the excessive hate-filled rhetoric and misinformation. 👍

The experience was the same for me @April Marie. I slept much deeper and I woke up each morning feeling so much more restful sleeping with forms solidly in place. For me, wearing breast forms at night started when before I was a teenager. I had no access up to modern breast forms and certainly no way to buy mastectomy bras back then. I wore a basic bra my mom had put in a donation box and two pairs of soft cotton socks. I have some crazy memories of things I did in my youth to combat my GD but regardless, these makeshift concoctions helped me work through it all.   All My Best, Susan R🌷

Colorado isn't exactly a Republican place, and won't become one anytime soon.  I think those folks might be better off not spending their time playing Don Quixote.    We certainly have our share of California "refugees" moving into where I live, so I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing Coloradans too.  I suspect the trend over the next few years will see the blue areas getting more blue and the red areas getting more red as anybody who can relocate tries to find a place where they fit better.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
Well, at least it'll be a place some folks could choose.  Options are a good thing.

My family would have gobbled that jar up in a minute or two.  When we do have pickled herring, its usually for Christmas.  I didn't grow up with that particular dish, but I grew up in a Greek family so I like just about any kind of fish if I can get it.  However, ocean fish and freshwater fish taste so different.  We usually have more catfish and tilapia to eat than anything else.    What I can't quite get used to is the tons of cabbage my GF insists on eating.  When you live with a Russian, there is always cabbage soup.  Always.  When I first moved in with her, breakfast was "shchi" for soup and either bread or "kasha" which is a bowl of boiled buckwheat with butter and salt.  Those dishes can be made in any number of ways, some are better than others.  In the winter, it can even be salty and sour like kraut.  Not exactly sauerkraut, but packed in tubs with vinegar and salt so it keeps partially for the winter.  But I drew the line when the cabbage soup included pieces of fried snake one day.  😆

Good evening to you as well @Mmindy   That is awesome that you have support from her side. My dad has communicated with me once and that was because he was forced to. His new wife wanted to spend time with my kids. He hated me so much he was in the process of taking my rights away as a parent to my two boys. He was talking to a lawyer and I called him out on it. I don't love him at all. I'll respect him because I wouldn't be here without him but I wished I had another father. My uncles don't talk to me and unfriended me on Facebook. Almost all cousins except for two are still Facebook friends but they don't give me any support. My mom said she won't support me with that but she has said that she loves me. I have nieces and nephews that are still Facebook friends but they have yet to talk to me. I have one sister that supports me out of three. The other's disrespect me by deadnaming me. They have never called me their sister. I think for them they think it's still a phase. They don't ask questions about me being trans. I have to bring it up and on the look of their faces they don't look comfortable about it.

Good evening @Ashley0616,   I just got offline with HP tech support trying to get my printer tool box icon locked to my tool bar. This is one of the most important features of my printer that I like because it keeps track of ink, paper, and scanned documents. I'm diffidently not a computer geek.   I'll catch up with the other bookmarks next week. We leave to go home for the Easter Holiday with our families. Saturday with her side, and Sunday with my side. What's odd about that is I'm out to more of her side and they're reluctantly supportive. My side on the other hand are less supportive, and my sister just under me in age will not acknowledge my being there. She will be constantly moving to keep from dealing with me. I'm dead to her.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I used to follow baseball and the team I would cheer for is Boston Red Sox. My favorite player was Papi. He was an awesome guy and even held a child during the National Anthem. I haven't watched baseball for a long time. It just died off to me.
    • Ashley0616
That stinks that nothing transferred, and no bookmarks were saved!

I'm doing patches for now but I think soon I'll go to shots because it's hard to alternate when you are doing two xx patches at once. Unless she gives me Estradiol and progesterone

My view is we are "dependent" on government, because as a society, we are too lazy to stay actively involved. So, we let politicians do our bidding for us.  I think we'd be in a better place government wise if we policed the actions of our politicians.  We elected them; they work for us.  Sadly, we are allowing them to run amok.  We are where we are because we have chosen to let politicians make all decisions without us.  Remember "by the people, for the people?" That was the intent of our democracy.  Today, however, it is "by the politicians, for the politicians," the people be damned.

"Play Ball! Batter Up!" is the closing line of the National Anthem as far as I'm concerned. It's the call of the Home Plate Umpire and signals the start of the game. I grew up in the TV and Radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, and Mike Shannon, were the voices on my transistor radio. KMOX 1120 AM pushing 50,000 watts of Class A clear-channel non-directional signal. It could be picked up all across MO, IL, IN to the East. KS, OK, CO to the West. IA, MN to the North, and KY, TN, AR to the South. There has always been a rivalry against the Chicago Cubs, in the National League. As for the American League, I have to pull for the Kansas City Royals. I've also been a Little League Umpire, and fan of everything the Little League stands for. Going to Williamsport, PA and seeing the Little League World Series is in my top 10 things to do on my bucket list.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good evening everyone,   I don't think my mother ever cooked a meal that I didn't like. We also had a kitchen where mom fixed the food, dad filled your plate, and you eat it. It wasn't until our baby brother was born that we could have Pop-Tarts for snacks. Before that all snacks had to meet mom's approval, and in her opinion wouldn't prevent you from eating supper.   Well my day started off on a good note, but has become frustrating because my IT person didn't transfer my saved videos I use for teaching. Then I found out that they didn't save any of my book marks for websites I use frequently.   Best wishes, stay motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
