Cheaper to make a wig?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

So my favorite wig is called the Princess Lexia (You can see in my picture gallery). I go to my local wig shop and purchase a new one about every 3 weeks at $39 a pop. Since the hair is synthetic, it tends to tangle, matte up, and wear faster than the expensive human hair wigs.

I am a licensed hairstylist, so I am open to making a human hair wig and then styling it to look like my Princess Lexia wig. Question is.... Does anyone know if its less expensive to buy the packs of human hair or just buy a premade human hair wig?

Thanks,

Milani

No idea on that one? Maybe you could find people who are getting drastic haircuts? Sorry I'm not much help tonight.

Post the research and findings back here. At that point you will be our go-to girl. Hug. JodyAnn

I really have more wigs than I ever should have bought, and while I have not done it, I have seen where two actual wigs can be pieced together, and would be cheaper than just buying the hair. There are suppliers that have "wefts" that can be used for extensions that you could use. My suggestion would be to buy one HH wig and some of the extension hair that is in wefts. Here are three of my personal wig sites that do a good job of product support. Look and get ideas here.

You can add synthetic fiber to HH wigs and vice versa.

Your experience as a stylist will give you an artistic edge over what I would have.

Side note, my wigs have been mostly in the $140 - $250 range of synthetic wigs and I have some that are several years old and that look great. I do give them the same care I give my own hair. Wigs do have about 30% more fiber than they need to look good, per a friend that was a Revlon field rep for their wig department, and you can trim out some if it gets too bad. My stylist would always do some trimming for me if the ends matted up and split, but regular brushing was a bigh help.

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).
