electrolysis

Today was my 15th hour of electrolysis, and up today I have to say that it is way less painful than laser. Today was pure pain as she started in on my upper lip! OMG I had tears running down my cheeks it hurt so much.

She did little bits at a time then moved to a different location and then moved back which did break it up a bit.

On the brighter side she tells me next Saturday it won't hurt nearly as much, I really hope not

Anyways that is my update for now

Hi Deb, I've have five hours of electrolysis so far and the upper lip is by far the most painful. I haven't had laser since I've got mostly white beard hair. It does help when they move around. I too had tears falling, but I'm in it for the long haul. My cheeks did welt up and that took five days to subside. I wasn't crazy about that look for the week but what can I do...

Did she say why it wouldn't hurt as much?

Hi Jani

My cheeks were swollen as well the first time after electrolysis, and as my dormant hairs wake up she zaps those and my face does not welt up, and it does not hurt nearly as much.

She says that will be the same with the upper lip, mind you She did say it with a very sinister laugh, I am sure its still going to hurt but it is a short term pain for long term gain !

Oh by the way my hair is 90% white so laser was not a real option any way, the laser Technician thought she could do the 10% but it really hurt and I did not see that great of results nothing like electrolysis

Hello all

A update on the electrolysis, everything going great the upper lip is almost done ""phew"

One thing is for sure my electrologist lied lol it hurt just as much as the first time, and to top it off I have to wait two weeks as what hairs are there are to short for her to see and zap.

Thanx everybody, I wish I could afford this work I feel so lucky just to get HRT thru medi-cal/caid aka obama care. I am out of work and doing something I have never done before. I will be working again soon and this is one of the first things I want done. All else aside I just hate shaving and hair in general, and having it on my face ewww.

I wanted to mention I have had back problems in the past I am a former Downhill racer "skiing". I was given Lidocaine patches to wear on my back when it would hurt and cramp up. I have used them for pircings too. They work good to make the skin numb and are easy to get from a Dr. Seems like a ideal use here??? just a sugestion. I am going to ask my dr when i see him next week.

Peace Clear

Hi girls,

After 85 hours on the table, I've gotten rather familiar with how electrolysis feels in all the different areas of my face and neck. One suggestion that may provide you some relief, at least for a while during a session (I do one hour each visit) is EMLA. I get it from my Dr. paid for by the health plan except for a $5 co-pay. You can also buy it on line from a Canadian pharmacy you can find easily with a brief search. It showed up quickly and cost $30 per tube. If you put it on as directed and cover it up well and let it sit for over an hour, you will get some significant pain relief until the hair removal proceeds a while and your blood stream carries it away. Give it a try. Good luck!

Well my upper lip is cleared of dark hairs with only a smattering of white left. Thank goodness. Some hairs were excruciating since they seem to be at a nerve ending (!!) while others are no worse than cheek or chin. Since the first time she worked on my cheeks they haven't swelled up again. I am happy for that. She did my lower lip today. The hair was course so pulling it out after zapping it was tough but nowhere as bad as the upper lip was. I've never had a full beard so it seems to be going quickly for me. Some hairs do grow back, but they are easier to get and that seems to be it for them. I've been taking a couple extra strength acetaminophen tablets before hand and it seems to work for me.
