Hair questions...

Hello girls.

I got some questions.

First, laser hair removal (beard). I've 7 laser sessions done. The last two times, 2 weeks after each session, nothing remains, no hair. But after a few days they grow back. And I don't feel it grows lighter than before the session. When will it be finished ? It there really an end on this nightmare ?

I am 14 months HRT. Since a few weeks hairs on my arms have litteraly changed. They grow faster, are longer, but much thin and smooth, nearly invisible. What's this ? Will it be the same for the whole body hair ?

Hi Clara,

So far my experience is completely different. It's only the neck so far, but I assume there's not much difference between neck and higher up, because I used to have very thick whiskers there.

First of all, the biggest effect about two weeks after each session is what I've seen as well. But what I'm seeing is much more permanent as far as I can tell so far. Shortly before the second session there were a few patches where nothing had grown back. Shortly before the third session there were only a few patches that still had relevant hair growth at all. During that session I did notice the laser, so it apparently still had something to target, but that was a bit of a surprise, because it was definitely not very visible.

At the moment the neck is almost completely clear. I booked a package of six treatments, so I have the realistic expectation that I will get a near-perfect result. It might have to do with my hair/skin combination (thick black hair and fairly light skin) together with a good laser / cooling system.

I tried Laser. Did absolutly nothing for me. after a few days it all just grew back the same as it was.

Im now onto Electrolysis . Granted i have had only 4 sessions which translates to about 5 hours worth all on the same area of my face being the top lip. Being honest every occasion they have cleared the same spot then about a week later i can see no diffrence. Either i have about a million hairs in the same place or it just isnt working on me as it should. I tell you what i find it really painful to. Someone once described it as a Bee sting feeling. Im not a baby and my life it bloody hurts. I brave it in the hope that eventually it will be hair free if  I keep directing them to the same area. I live in hope.  For the time being I thank the God of Dermablend

Clara laser treatments are called hair reduction as opposed to electrolysis which is permanent hair removal.  Laser does work well for some people, not for others.  I believe you may has said you have fair or light colored beard hair and that could be an issue with laser as well as the hair isn't dark enough to absorb the light pulses.

I know several people who started with laser then went on to electrolysis to finish off any remaining.  I have only done electrolysis and it is time consuming but I love the results.

Laser may work better on body hair as it's a different type than facial.

What Jani said...

Plus, my understanding is that not all of your hair follicles are active at one time. What I was told is that roughly 1/3 are actively growing at any given point and even if you got rid of all of those, you'd need to do the same thing again for the other two thirds.

I had good success getting rid of the dark hairs on my face with 10-12 laser treatments over the course of a year. It didn't get rid of all the dark hairs but it significantly reduced it. I'm currently doing electrolysis and expect that to continue for the next 1-2 years. That will get rid of what's left of the dark hairs as well as the white/silver hairs (!) that lasers can't do much about.

Best,
Julie

Yes you're correct.  My electrologist has said you have to catch them at the right time.  Which is why I have a regular weekly appointment.   At first it seemed like everything was growing back but eventually the time on the table paid off as the hairs got finer and then were banished.

Hang in there.  No one promised this was easy!

Thanks everyone

Laser works on me. I lost 80% of facial hair during the first 5 sessions.

But the remaining are still growing growing and growing (no more hair 2 weeks after session, then grows nearly like before) . Most are dark.

I don't see the end... And every single hair is a huge masculine feature.

For the girls who finished with hair removal, is it really over? No more shaving?

As far as I remember this is about as much as you can expect, it's even a good result. Even advertising (from serious providers of course) usually doesn't promise more than that. I guess under those circumstances it might be best to move on to electrolysis.

Here is a small update. My 5th session is coming up this week. There is some hair growing on my neck again, but much slower than before (and compared to the rest of the beard). Will be interesting to see if and how well the laser gets rid of this.

I was not planning to do another update already, but I'm just back from the laser session and it was not pleasant. It hurt more than I was used to, and that at a power level that was even lower than before. The skin is also a bit swollen. It might be because it's now a different type of hair. It's definitely much thinner than the whiskers I had growing there before and the laser might now be targeting some skin as well as hair.

Now I'm curious if it was worth the (literal) pain. I could now be at exactly the same point as what you describe in the OP  @Clara84 , but of course that will only be clear in a few weeks.

To be honest I could stop at this point, because shaving my neck is now done within a few seconds, as opposed to close to impossible when I started. But I still have another session booked and it seems I will get two complementary sessions (which is absolutely awesome, especially because I already got a discount for booking six sessions).

I can't comment on the pain other than to say we all react differently.  I'm doing electrology and it's not a cake walk.   The pain could be the result of cumulative sessions and your skin is tender.  Remember laser is like getting a sunburn.  Maybe you could wait an extra week between sessions?  Personally, I would continue since you have a few left.  Why put up with having to shave at all if you need not?

  • 2 weeks later...

I got another session last Monday. With more power. It hurted a lot.

A lot of hairs which weren't visible were shot. It has been 4 days now where dead hairs are showing at some place I didn't noticed there was hairy.

Still have to wait a few days to see the results.

Sounds like there is progress Clara.  Make sure to keep your face moisturized.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?
