lingerie shopping.

Hi everyone,

Well two days ago I did something that I have been wanting to do for absolutely ages and unfortunately I have also been putting it off for ages. I went to a Lingerie shop (La Senza) and got properly measured for bras. Ok I was totally nervous when I went up to the cash desk. After she had finished with another customer she asked if she could help. I explained that I wanted to be measured properly and there was absolutely no reaction from her whatsoever. All she said was no problem give me a moment and promptly disappeared through a door next to the cash desk. She came back and explained that the lady would be with me in a few minutes.

Just as she said another young woman came out of the door,  walked straight up to me and said "hi I am Anna , Justine says that you would like to be measured and fitted; what's your name love? ". I kind of spluttered yes and Kali-Ann . She said not a problem if you would like to follow me. I walked through the door and there was a seating area with sofas and occasional tables;  up to date magazines spread over the.

I took a seat and started to thumb through one of the magazines. Anna came over and asked if I would care for as glass of wine while I waited! I got chatting with another customer who was admiring my Ted Baker bag and signed her up as a nail client.

Anna eventually ushered me into a privacy cubicle and asked me to remove my top. Still no reaction! I did as requested and stood there really self consciously. Immediately she put me at ease. She said that the bra I was wearing was not right for either my size nor body shape. She suggested that I should go for a push up bra with balcony cups. She explained that it would make the most of what I have and give me a much more defined cleavage.

Anna spent a good few minutes with her tape measure took notes then said won't be a mo and left. She returned with an armful of bras and matching panties. Gorgeous stuff. She confirmed that I am just over a AA. Then asked me to remove the bra I had on!! That I totally didn't expect.

She picked up that I was nervous and said it's ok love no men in here. So I took it off. Then she  went to work. She adjusted the straps and asked me to put it on. She did up the hooks and asked me how it felt. I explained that the straps felt a little loose. She finely adjusted everything until it was perfect. I bought two new bras from the shop and left on cloud nine.

I simply cannot express adequately just how totally wonderful a properly fitting bra feels or rather doesn't feel. Because they are perfect for me I cannot feel them like I am not wearing one!

So what did I learn? That my money is as good as anyone elses. That as a woman I have as much right as any other woman to take advantage of services for us, and maybe the most important thing of all. Don't assume anything, because at no point did Anna make any reference to me being transgender and treated me exactly the same as any other woman shopping for lingerie. Will I go back most definitely.

It is all a learning curve and I am as bad as anyone because we create a horrible situation in our minds before we even get there, wherever that is. In short we terrify ourselves out of doing so much. In the cold analysis of it all WE are creating the issues.

Go for it ladies it is far from the terrible experience that we believe that it will be.

Hi Kali-Ann,

Maybe I missed but were you wearing a bra previous to your fitting if so how close was the size you were wearing to your fitted size?

Just curious. I love shopping for panties myself I'm my way out later.

Hey April

Yes I was wearing a bra I always do. It was the cup size that was the real issue maybe half a size. The new bras are a perfect fit La Senza do half cup sizes basically they are designed by women for women not men who have no idea what having breasts is like!

These new ones move with me even my man has noticed the difference.

Enjoy your shopping hunni.

P.S  also the band size was wrong I always thought that I was a 38 nope 36 given the cup size.

Kali-Ann this is so nice to read.  I'm glad you took time to experience this.  In deed, we can be our own worst enemies when it comes to overthinking!

I am glad things went well with you Kali-Ann. I generally buy my bras online these days, as being pre anything and not wearing forms I have a very small cup size not available in high street stores. There is a  lingerie shop specialising in bras not too distant from me which has fittings etc. I often wondered about how I would be treated if I went there as, from their advertising, it appears very old fashioned and catering somewhat for the older woman. I am probably wrong, but, as what I have now fit well and are comfortable, I probably won't find out. I would recommend it to anyone who did need help as there is nothing as draining to morale as poor fitting clothing.

I wish I was within LaSenza's size range. They have such pretty stuff.

Oh, and yeah, padded plunge or padded demi is how I roll, and my cleavage looks amazing. I get distracted by them when I look down and still can't believe that's all me in there. ?

I absolutely agree with you Lizzie, it takes some getting used to and I’m not sure when it will happen but I feel just like you do every time I see a reflection or look down. I was out to sushi with a friend the other day and she took a picture of me in boy mode...  yep, it’s official, boy mode is wrecked! I had thrown on a purple boys T-shirt Since I had stubble I needed to visit the electrologist the next morning, but I don’t think it would’ve mattered if I went girl mode or a boy mode, Nobody looked anyway,  so it wouldn’t have mattered !  I did have to order a new bra, my previous 44A from leading lady, just was too loose in the band, so I ordered another Bridget 42A That should arrive in the mail soon. I’m pretty sure that staying with A cup Should be OK, I don’t think I fit the sister size 42B as of yet.  I typically just wear a fabric pull over stretchy bra at work, it’s just too distracting if I wear a normal bra, it distracts the boys at work and it still even distracts me when I see reflections in the machine windows!

 Hugs,

Jackie

Wow that is a high number for Estradiol good grief! Testosterone levels are better than mine. I don't remember my Estradiol level but testosterone was 80. To me that is really high but it was in the two hundreds the check in before last one.

I don't understand why this would make a difference being a "dad" I mean, as far as how they would grow.

I don't see why not. I have worn forms since I came out.

I have never worn breastforms, but I assume as long as they don't aggravate your nipples you could.

Every week I've been excited to take my shot, so it's never been an issue. Yesterday, however, I woke up and started my usual "slow roll" and then suddenly realized I had breakfast plans that I had to rush out the door for. After, it was straight into work calls, and then I got the notification from the doctor about things being too high and all the while my mind had completely slipped that I needed take my shot.   Given that I am not asking for medical advice, but sharing my journey, I will note my results: Estradiol at 447 pg/mL and Testosterone was 23 ng/dL, up and down from 26 pg/mL and 526 ng/dL respectively before treatment. Almost flipped the bit! The doc would like my Estradiol closer to 300 pg/mL, so we'll see what Monday's tests state.   Oh, and I teased the dinner with old soccer teammates and never updated the thread! It went well. There were a couple funny moments. One guy, who I was worried about their response, greeted me with "Hey, you've lost some weight!" 😎 And a friend who lives near me picked me up on the way to dinner exclaimed, after we learned one of the invitees might show up with a date, "Wait! We could have brought women?!" To which I instantly responded, "You kind of did, bringing me!" Everyone got a good laugh out of that. 😁

To me there isn't that much difference other the measurement, which side the zipper is on and men's pants have bigger pockets.

I hope this is not stupid question..I have yet to start n not sure if doc will approve..but once you start growing buds n such, can you still wear forms to get to the size you were?   I'm a dad, so when I start blossoms they will be smaller for a long time n probably need surgical augmented..that's fine. I don't want to go ddd to aa to ddd..   any ideas?   thank you

I like them too.  We had them growing up.  But my father's family were Swedes.

Oh my!  I guess it just goes to show how different tastes can be. Since we don't live near the ocean, Seafood is a rare luxury. We absolutely love pickled herring! Especially my husband and my GF, I guess it's a Ferman/Russian cultural thing.  But most of the kids like it too, and a jar wouldn't last in the pantry for long 😆

I think the key to that is just not minding eating the same thing repeatedly. Since we produce a lot of our own food here, we end up eating what is in season at the moment. So, when the yellow squash is ripening, we end up fixing squash 20 different ways. When the strawberries are ready, we eat lots of strawberries. It's kind of a different mindset to eat in season when it has become such a part of American culture but the grocery store has everything we want all the time. Like grapes in December.  My family does even things out a little bit by having a greenhouse so we have some fresh things in the winter, but it's not a 100% fix.

My brothers and I had to eat what was on the plate.  All of it, and nothing else.  Pickiness was not tolerated.  Some of our least favourite were liver and onions, sauerkraut, and especially rollmops (pickled herring).  We finally protested enough to persuade our mother not to serve rollmops, though she kept a jar in the pantry for years afterwards, as a threat if we didn't behave.

I'll go first.  My favorite team is the Yankees.  Loved them since I was a kid.  I was born in NYC so, yeah.  I know everyone loves to hate them, and that's OK.  I just love baseball in general.  It's a game of traditions, strategy, power, grace and skill.   Play Ball!!  ⚾   Carolyn Marie

I guess you do have a good point. It's just hard to try and not have the same meals over and over again.

Hi   I’ll weigh in on being picky about food.  Yes, and I was brought up that way.  We didn’t have to eat everything our parents ate.  They had a number of things they ate that they figured we wouldn’t eat, an acquired taste things or one or the other didn’t like them too.   even as an adult there are many things I won’t eat.  In my defense, there are different things my wife won’t eat.   the weird thing is that after being in E, my tastes have changed.  Sweet, sour, salty or bland, if I eat or drink too much of any one thing and I have to counter act it.   Willow
