I decided to take in a transgender teen and she is much happier.Came out in December and mom said out of her house.A good friend of mine introduced her to me.14 years old and I told her my story, there for her.My family even has accepted her in.

Heather, that is such a beautiful thing to do.  Thank you for being there for her.

And thank you on my own behalf, too.  After some of the headlines I have seen in the last few days, I needed a shot of radical niceness. ❤️

I don't really know how to describe some of the disdain I feel when I listened to or read people saying it's a "phase", and maybe it is for some kids, or maybe I am not educated enough on the topic, but I know it wasn't a "phase" for me.

I knew at age six and still do, so my "phase" has lasted 76 years.

@KymmieL you failed in your plan to send snow my way, a few flurries expected shortly.  Yes it’s below average temperatures but hang on, 60s and 70s later this week.  However, North Carolina western mountain peaks are getting two feet.

@heatherd unfortunately there are too many parents out there that refuse to accept that there child is special.  I’ll never know, but I’m certain my father would not have accepted me and for sure I would have been bullied.  I knew I was different from other boys but I continued to try.  I know help with a group of transgender teenagers and their parents or guardians.  Our youngest is 11 and oldest is 19.  We didn’t have a December meeting but will next Friday.  These kids are all over the spectrum.  Parents meet at the same time, different room.  I spoke to the parents a few months back about my journey. I think it helped some to understand hearing about it from an adult.  Some of our teens have had to move in with friends or relatives but your are the first I’ve known to take someone in and request legal guardianship.  Good for you.  I hate it when I hear about kids being kicked out, but especially at such a tender age.

We are going to the mall today.  Wife needs some workout clothes and I need a stand for my keyboard.  I know you get what you pay for and I didn’t spend a lot of money on mine but Ii am disappointed that there are notes that are not clear tones but a combination of frequencies from the emulator.  Yes the result is the correct note but in my headphones I can hear it.

@Davie I had a lot of tests done recently.  Things that I had put off during the pandemic but knew I needed to do.  I hate colonoscopies with a passion but I finally did it.  Good thing, they found tw polyps that were precancerous.  Now my follow-ups will be every three years instead of five.  When I follow-up with my gastroenterologist I need to ask about my stomach. My heartburn has been pretty bad lately.  February is going to be a busy month medically.

How about these egg prices?  Between breakfast and baking we go through a lot of eggs every month.  We’ve been buying them at Costco lately.  Even their price has shot up plus the limit how many you can get in consumer packages.  I bought a 5 dozen box of eggs and figure I’ll still need more. If you buy smaller packs you are limited to two, so a max of 36 eggs.  Milk is limited to two gallons as well.

hope y’all have a good weekend and stay warm.

🥶nice try @KymmieL

Good morning

breakfast is on the counter, coffee is nearly finished.

I hope everyone is surviving the weather.  @KymmieL we got your cold weather though I never saw any snowflakes.  Now the warmup begins.  At least the wind was quieted so it won’t feel as cold.

I hope you have a pleasant Sunday.  And that your favorite teams win.  We don’t have any real favorites but we were routing for the Jags because of Trevor Lawrence.

Good morning everyone,

I'm halfway through my pot of coffee, Suzie has breakfast on the stove. Today is our last day in cold weather for a week. We're flying to Daytona Beach, FL tomorrow morning, and will be there through Saturday. I'm teaching at a Hazmat Symposium for 4 hours on Thursday. The conference runs Wednesday to Saturday. We're using the extra days for a Winter Break.

Since the Colts sucked this year, and I was born in Missouri. Kansas City Chiefs have always been my second favorite team. I worked in the Buffalo, NY area a lot in the 1990s, and really fell in love with Jim Kelly and his story, so the Buffalo Bills are another are on my good side. Then add in the Damar Hamlin story... Then you bring in Trevor Lawrence and his total football career. I really won't be disappointed by football this year.

Good timing. We're coming out of a cold spell, but it's going to be 70s and 80s every day this coming week.

@WillowI use to have a shop where I did all the fabrication. Now I have vendors do the primary work. I paint and add all the tank truck components as well as the logos. I love building/making things.

Here’s that breakfast I mentioned. Two poached eggs, bacon, and English muffins. Oh, and berries.

Hugs

@Mmindy I would have to pass on the English Muffin but otherwise your breakfast looks good.  It been many years since I had a poached egg.  Why pass on the English muffin?  I have to be very careful about breads.  I have a very hard time swallowing breads.

I haven’t been to Daytona Beach since 2007.  From ‘97 to 2000, Our son went to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and we made several trips per year.  2007 my son in law and I rode our Harleys to Biketoberfest. 1200 miles each way.  He had it rough, he was riding my daughter’s Sportster 880.  I was on my tripped out Ultra Classic.  I was planning on retiring there or near there but when the time came that area was pretty depressed..

I grew up a Browns fan, became a ‘Skins’ fan.  At least until Schneider bought the team.  When we moved here, the main team was the Panthers.  But I just couldn’t watch the antics of Can Newton. Now that he’s gone for good I can watch.

Enjoy the games.

It still is, relative to the surrounding areas. Ormond Beach to the north of it is very nice if you have the money. We rented there for a year and then moved to another of the landlord's houses on the beach side of Daytona. Turns out there was a drug den two doors away, and when I walked my dog I could see deals transpiring on the side streets. The annual special events that are the lifeblood of the city's income snarl traffic terribly. When I worked in adjacent Holly Hill, we would see undercover police gearing up for prostitution stings.

Further inland, Deland has a lot of character but has become very high-crime in the last couple of years. We live across I-4 in Deltona, a Mackle planned community that drew a lot of people to the area back in the 60s and has grown to a population of nearly 100K. Our ocean getaway of choice is New Smyrna Beach, about 25 miles away.

@Colleen Henderson I had considered renting a unit in one of the Oceans high rises for 6 months to a year to find a place.  My wife liked Ormond Beach.  Neither of us were truly interested in Daytona or Daytona Beach.  I liked Port Orange,  but anywhere from St Augustine south to Stuart was within our zone.  Glad now I didn’t buy in Oceans.

Our son’s first roommate owns a house in Ormond and another in Atlanta which is where he lives now.  They are both Captains with Delta.

Good morning

I took two classes at the Y yesterday, an aqua fitness class and a senior stretch and tone.  I left the aqua class a bit early as I’d had as much as I could do.  I hadn’t done one of those since before Covid.  I’m going to have to work up to it without hurting myself.  The instructor for the water class was the same one for the second class.  When she walked in she saw me and commented,”I wondered if you would be here” referring to my knowing when to quit.  I would have gone to her chair yoga class today but my wife had an appointment, and right now we only have one car available.

I’m not too sure we will make it through another year together.  I’m getting more and more annoyed with her and I know she doesn’t respect my needs.  She does help with makeup and skin care so sometimes it is hard to tell.  If we don’t make it, I suspected I’ll be the one to leave.  And I will move somewhere more friendly towards us.  I know that means colder and snowy but I can deal with that.

I'm sorry you're going through this, Willow. Marriage is hard work, and it takes full commitment from all parties--including the children. Remember that the folks here will be supportive regardless of the outcome.

This is kinda what happened to me - although the situation was different.  My egg had not cracked yet, but there were already signs.

Our kids were grown, and we had been moving on diverging spiritual paths for awhile.  I was not living up to her standards, and there were too many accusations - separate rooms for a year.  There were still a few good times but they were infrequent.  Finally after another incident I realized it was over, and left.  It was the hardest thing I've ever done.  I'll admit I was suicidal.

But on the plus side, I was finally able to pick up my self exploration that had been paused by the relationship.  I used my new freedom to look into my past, and what I found was Ivy.  She had been there all the time waiting for me to free her.

Sure, I was heartbroken over losing the relationship - I still am to an extant.  But now I have the freedom of not trying to live up to someone else's expectations.

Also in the plus column, with the tension gone, we are still friends.  I sometimes joke that we still like each other, we just can't live together.  She has remarried.  I'm… well, I'm trying to rebuild my life as this woman I am.

I sometimes wonder how things could have been different for me if…   But if Ivy had come out back then, '72, I doubt she would have survived.  And I do have a supportive family now.  And having lived as two different genders is I think, a rare privilege.

Sorry if this got a bit long, LOL

Thanks @Marcie Jensen and @Ivy and no it wasn’t too long of a post.  Somethings just take a lot of words.  I appreciate the support I need to pay off some bills and build up some savings.  I really hate the idea of getting a part-time job but I guess that’s in the cards.  Once we would split I’m sorry to say but I’m pretty sure I will have it a lot easier that she will.  My next home will either be another sailboat or a piece of bare ground and a travel trailer while I slowly build a building on the lot.  Likely a pole building that I eventually build into a home.  I can use my VA loan for that.

on the other hand, if I get bills paid down, maybe things will get better between us.  It’s all up in the air right now but I can’t give up everything I need anymore.

Good morning everyone,

I just started the coffee, and now I’m sitting on the balcony of my hotel, looking South from Daytona Beach, to see if I can watch this morning’s Falcon 9 launch. 🚀

It’s scheduled to launch around 7:00AM. Once my iPad updates, I’ll also stream it live from YouTube.

Gooooood morning coffee lovers!

Who know what day it is? Not you @KymmieL I know you think it’s Friday.

Iiiiiiitttttts hump day!  So go kiss a dromedary.  It’s also second payday, senior stretch day, rainy but warmer day,  can’t see the rocket for the clouds day.  And last but not least, it’s a good day to be with friends day.

No I did not get into the booze early nor did I overdose on antidepressants.  It’s just a good day to hear from everyone.

@heatherd so happy for you.  Transgender teens need so much to have Allie’s and hear success stories.  So many of them get bullied at school and at home.  It’s really sad to hear about the ones who get kicked out or whose parents are too blind to see their needs.

Thank you for doing this.

XXX  EEEEEEEEE. Sorry wrong at least this week. Today is Saturday DUH. LOL.

This week off Wed-Thurs one of the other asst has a funeral to go to this weekend. At least I work days Fri-Sat.

Good thing that I don't work. We are getting snow, I am just going to watch it out the window.

Well our trip to Michigan is set for next month. My wife has booked the flight, hotel and car rental. Not sure how we are getting home though. My wife only got a one way flight. So it will either be a Uhaul or as she says drive the rental home.  Unknown how much stuff she will want to bring back from the family home.

On a Happier note, I wish  Davie a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. 🎂

@heatherd it is fantastic that you care so much to take a young transgender lady into your home and life. Hope all goes well with the custody hearing. My wife is in the perfect position to do the same thing, with her position as custodian at an alternative High school. However, Her attitude towards us is a down fall. She tolerates me being different but still doesn't understand.

SO, Happy Hump day everyone.  Stay safe and warm.

Hugs,

Kymmie

Thank you 😊.  It's going really well. Haven't needed any pain meds. Today they let me eat and made 2 laps around the floor walking 🚶‍♀️. I haven't seen the results yet though, still have bandages there. I can barely wait to see.

Hope you are all well.

This is really sad but I'm not shocked it happened.   I have been lucky that people around me (parents not included) who are aware that I am transgender (not all do but some do) have generally been very supportive.  But I also attend a support group on occasion and a few of the transgender girls around my age have had it really tough, and I can see that depression really takes over. I have tried to be a friend to them but the need to feel confirmation that you are doing the right thing is there, and for some people, if they don't get a little affirmation it makes them slip away.   Before I met a few good trans friends but was battling with my parents not being accepting, I was feeling that way too but I feel lucky a few people made the effort to pull me up and show me I was important to them and going down the right path.  That's why it's important to have sites like this so people can connect because we are all in a tough situation, especially lately and we all need each other!     I thank you all again for putting this site up and keeping it going!!  😽

@April Marie, I hadn't considered the elimination of Earmarks before. You make an excellent point. Thank you.
    • April Marie
I have very similar feelings to yours @Marcie Jensen- until the demonization of political opponents ceases we will always be engulfed in emotional rhetoric.   I actually pin the collapse of Ds & Rs having any incentive to work together to the elimination of Congressional Earmarks in 2010. Prior to that, each side had to give in order to get and that kept our system close to the middle and eliminated the need for emotion. Bringing home the bacon to your district meant reelection.    When earmarks were eliminated there was nothing but political ideology left to center one's argument around and failure to find common ground gave strength to the extreme wings of each party...not wholly unlike how terrorists recruit acolytes by promising "their way" is the true path to what is right and good.   And so, each side attacks without fear and demonizing those who appear different is an easy way to engender distrust, outrage and secure votes and support.   Just a few personal thoughts.
    • Natalie21
I have noticed that I tear up more and have a wider range of emotions. Same here I am happy with all the changes I wasn’t born with.   I knew that I’d lose muscle definition and I was ok with it and I did like the fat redistribution on my legs at first, just like you did.  The reason I’m a little uncomfortable about it now is that my legs are thicker than most my cis female friends, and I keep growing down there.
    • Marcie Jensen
You're right. There aren't. Although in Luke 4:21 Jesus says "Physician, heal thyself." That's about as close as it comes.   Separation of Church and State derives from the establishment clause in Article 1 of the US Constitution and was included to prevent something like the Church of England being formed and to prevent religious discrimination.
    • Marcie Jensen
Before I begin, I will say up front that this will likely offend some folks and will probably get me censured. For that I am truly sorry, however, as a person of conscience, I feel I have to speak up. And, for the record, from what I've learned, these laws are abominable and I don't approve of them one iota. Make no mistake about that.   Still, I must speak up. I firmly believe that medical decisions should be between doctors and the individuals concerned, and in the case of minors, parents probably should have a voice as well. I'm not sure about the latter, but I'm willing to listen.   That said, there are a number of things I find disturbing about many of the comments being voiced here and in other threads and I will explain my reasoning as it does no good to simply say something without explaining.  To begin, name calling, specifically referring to individuals and entities by name calling is counter productive and only makes a case for change more difficult.   For example, referring to the state of FL as "the Reich," a particular governor or media personality as "Reichsfuhrer,"  "Goebbels," "Minister of Propaganda," or even changing the word "[email protected]" to "unhealthy politics" does nothing but alienate and anger the other side AND it gives them ammunition to use against us. I truly understand the anger. I truly do and I want to rail against them constantly. But I refuse to sink to that level. Frankly, it's reminiscent of third grade schoolyard antics.   I would also point out two things about the media in the United States. First, most of the media has a singularly liberal/progressive stance on virtually every issue. There are very few exceptions to this; Fox News being the most recognizable. The second point is even more stark: when the entirety of the "free press" marches in lockstep, IT IS NO LONGER FREE. It then becomes a defacto propaganda ministry; an organ of the government, if you will. That's not something I particularly care to see.   Also, for the record, the same comments apply to conservatives as well as liberals and progressives. The plain truth is that both sides have become so polarized in their thinking that any room for rational discussion is either nonexistent, or is becoming so.    Now, to be sure that I'm clear, I'm NOT a fan of Tucker Carlson or Bill O'Reilly before him. Nor am I a particular fan of Rachael Maddows (sp?) but, I will defend their right to spew whatever they want no matter what I happen to think of it or how offensive it is.   And yes, @Carolyn Marie, your point about the GOP's stance on social warfare issues is not only exceedingly well taken, but applies to every political party in the world. It's also the most cogent point raised thus far. You're also right about how long it's going to take in terms of damages for things to change. I'd say about 40 years given the number of conservative federal judges Trump appointed.    Now, am I frightened about the future? You bet I am. And not just about health care issues. But shrill commentary and name calling are not the answers. In the novel (not the movie) Starship Troopers, the late Robert Heinlein made the comment that governments exist only as long as they are functional and serve the needs of their people. We are at that point right now. The evidence is all around us, this is but one battlefield.   Once again, I apologize to all and sundry for my bluntness, but it needed to be said plainly. These laws are, imho, unconstitutional, unenforceable and just plain stupid. We don't need to stoop their level, though.
    • Katie23
There is a new term that is going to be used rather than gender dysphoria. The new term is gender incongruence. I have to wonder how the courts are going to act on policing those healthcare providers who provide care for gender incongruence. I also have to wonder the Republican _____ Ministry of Health plans to search the private healthcare records. Notwithstanding their attempts to prevent someone from caring for those with gender incongruence, it could be interpreted as a restraint of free trade in preventing a healthcare provider from providing care that is endorsed by multiple medical associations. I am pretty sure there are no healthcare guidelines in the Bible. I am pretty sure there is also some small phrase in a document called the Constitution that talks about separation of Church and State. That may prevent the Bible from being used as a guide to healthcare law.
    • Ivy
Unfortunately this is not hyperbole.   On another note, they guy is obviously connected politically, so I doubt there is hard time in his future.

I am not sure where this is best suited, but a young woman by the name of Kayleigh Scott died. Her death was reported as a suicide by the Denver Post (https://www.denverpost.com/2023/03/24/transgender-activist-united-flight-attendant-kayleigh-scott/). Kayleigh was a flight attendant for United Airlines who came out in 2021. It is tragic that someone this young died. Even more tragic if they felt killing themselves was the thing to do. Very, very sad. I hope she is finally at peace. Sincerely Katie
    • Katie23
Until we get the entirety of the free press, as well as the public to finally say enough is enough, we will be sitting here like ducks just waiting for the shotgun to go off. The Republicans have the equivalent of the ____ Ministry of public enlightenment and propaganda pumping out false reports over and over again, reinforced by the Fox iteration of Joseph ______. We are talking about a news media empire that had no problem reporting false stories about the last national election, and then supporting a revolt. Even when being caught red-handed, what does the new Speaker-of-the-House do? Let's turn over all of the media we have to our minister of propaganda, Tucker Carlson.    So we have a national media organization spouting off lies on any topic of their choosing. Nobody considers that Fox could be lying about the kids who want to detransition. Nobody seems to notice or care that all of the leading agencies around the world recognize our right to transition. Until we have a tsunami-level of support calling out every lie being fostered by Fox, we are continue to be slandered and banned at every turn.    Everyday I see us losing ground. It is disheartening.
    • Katie23
Okay, you got me on that, so I suppose if it is a Federal charge, the guy will threaten more civil unrest in the name of his ex-supreme leader. I have zero faith that these alleged perpetrators will ever face any penalties. They will probably come up with a section in the Bible that endorses Covid-19 relief fraud. It is the chapter right after they condemn us to death for being trans.
    • Katie23
Well, you are going to lose muscle mass for sure, and you may notice you are a bit more fleshy in the thighs. I was on a great low fat/low carb diet when I started to see some great change, and I love the changes in my legs and thighs. With that said, we are all different. You will see a soft layer of fat all over, and it can feel great. You are not going to have the same muscle definition you had before. Sit back and enjoy the changes! I love every one of mine.   Not only the softness but the sensations are incredible. Have you started to tear up at the little things? When I feel all the things I feel it makes me yearn even more for wanting to have been born this way.

I know this might sound dumb, but I’ve been shocked with how my bodies been changing. Maybe I had some unrealistic thoughts about how my body would change, but as the estrogen has taken effect I’ve been becoming a lot thicker than I expected in my legs not just my butt, and not just the regular amount . I was suprised as no one in my family is built like that and again I wasn’t expecting that as I’m not really heavy, I’m just very big 6 foot 4 inches and 215lb.    I like being curvy it’s just that it’s not just my butt getting the fat it’s all of my legs. I know I’ll probably get even bigger as it’s only been 6 months on estordial.   I’m not gonna lie I feel a little weird as I’m still an athlete and can lift the the same amount as I did before. It’s just  I’m no longer athletic looking compared to males which I knew would happen, but even compared to females I am just starting to be very big and jiggly everywhere even though I technically weigh like 8lbs less than pre transitioning.   I’m not 2nd guessing transitioning, I’m very happy. It just feels really different.   Is it normal to feel like this?

Any day can be Dress Day!!! I had the urge on Wednesday evening to dress up - grabbed my leopard print blouse, a black skater skirt, sheer pantyhose and matching leopard print 6" platform heels. This 67 year old grandmother just has to show off her legs from time to time while they are still in decent shape. 😄
