@Mmindy I'm glad that we don't have crickets and grasshoppers.  Pests. We keep the grass mowed short, but we don't use pesticides since we try to have everything as organic as possible.  The cats practically eat their weight in insects, which is helpful.  They also.....ummm.... fertilize. 😆

I think Pauxatauny Phil’s prediction finally hit here.  Cold last night and freeze warning for tonight.  At least it is supposed to warm up again after the next freight train of bad weather roars through.

I know the Californians have had more than enough snow and rain.  They filled many reservoirs to overflow and they are trying to force water back into the aquafure (I know that’s spelled wrong). Seems like nature isn’t always very kind to California.

I hope there is enough rain and snowpack along the Colorado River basin to replenish the Hoover dam.

Wow @Mmindy two buckets-o-brew in one day.  How did you manage (tattoos (not what I typed)) to get anything straight?  With that much caffeine I’d be shaking like an earthquake.

Darn it. I fly into Boston that day, but I do not get there until 2 pm. Boston is a great town and Massachusetts is a good state to live in if you are trans.

Ah, too bad,  @Katie23. Welcome to town in any case. When I moved here back in 1973 it was not for its trans-friendliness. But glad I'm here now. I guess we can just keep planting the seeds of truth when we protest and trust they'll grow. Have a great trip. — Davie

Good afternoon, everyone!! I feel as if I've finally beaten back the depression that just overwhelmed me last week and am in a good place now. Focused on taking joy from every day and expanding my confidence. Bear with me, please!

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a friend in the San Fransisco, CA area, and when he comes to our annual trout fishing trip, he complains about the water conservation protocols he has to comply with. He brags about not shoveling snow. Well this year while he was at trout camp his wife sent him pictures of the snow capped mountains that she could see from their porch. He said that in the 20 years he's lived there, there was never any snow in the lower elevations. I've always contended that the weather is cyclical and while short term forecasting is better than ever. Long term forecasting is just a guess. I hope the reservoirs do fill back up, but I don't know how successful they'll be at filling the aquifers. Lake Mead should see some water level rise because of the snowfall, although I read an article that they may hold most of the snow melt in Lake Powell. I hope this guy is correct: “For the West in general, this year has been really great,” said Paul Miller, service coordination hydrologist with the National Weather Service’s Colorado Basin River Forecast Center in Salt Lake City. “This is probably the wettest year we’ve had since 2011.”  Las Vegas News

It is devastating to see the property damage from the flooding. While on the other hand cheering for Mother Nature to return water levels to their historical normal levels.

Hugs,

Good morning, everyone! It feels so good to be beyond the depression of last week and enjoying life again. My wife and I spent the evening watching The Quiet Man with Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne - a classic that we both love. Every time we watch it, we catch something new...even though we can pretty much quote the dialogue at this point. Of course, we enjoyed a little Jameson Irish Whisky while we watched.

A quiet day for me except that I've got my therapy session in a bit. I always look forward to that.

Be safe and warm...and loved.

Well, I am just wait till my wife says something to me. She got home from Lincoln. Never got a text from her that she was leaving. Only one was when she stopped for fuel. I had to ask my son when she left. No notification that she got home. I guess I found out about it myself. She said maybe 5-6 words to me last night then after I went to bed either her or our youngest closes our bedroom door all the way.

So far she hasn't said anything to me today. She made a comment on why the cat was closed in the laundry room. other than that nothing. I am waiting. It is getting harder to live with her with her ignoring me all the time. I am getting close to snapping.

Good morning

ive had my first cup-o-Joe.  Also my breakfast.  I soon need to get ready for my first day of employment in 7 years.  Certification for alcohol sales and food handler are complete and don’t expire for a couple years.  Who knew convenience store workers were food handlers.  I never gave that a thought.

Anybody know a good safe cure for a dog with fleas?  One that really works?  She’s been bathed several time followed by a very tight spaced shedding come. That removes them from fur and skin.  Then I’ve tried twice putting liquid flea medicine between her shoulder blades and now I’ve added a flea collar.  I guess she keeps getting reinfected because I have limited areas to take her and I expect the wild geese are the original source.  No I can’t afford the $200 programs sold by pet stores or Chewy.com.

gotta go get ready

i can’t be late my first day.

Best practice is a Frontline regimen once a month. Your dog will be flea-free in a couple of months.

Good morning everyone,:coffee:

I'm on my second cup of coffee, and slept well last nigh. I didn't sleep well Tuesday night for several reasons. I've been stressing over a couple of build deadlines that I have to meet in the shop. Compound that with getting three shots at the doctors office: Tetanus, Pneumococcal 20, and my second Shingles vaccine that really made my arms hurt. Then one of my fabricators informs me that they're missing two very important pressure relief valves for the build they are working on. This is a prop that I know the least about, so part number, and descriptions on an invoice don't make me comfortable. Now I'm questioning if I ordered them? How long will it take to get them? Did I get them, but misplace them in my shop? Which bin would I have placed them in? Going out into the shop, and looking for them would make to much noise and wake Suzie up. So I thought I would just take two ibuprofen, and a sleep it off. Well that didn't happen. So yesterday was a real drag, until my vendor e-mailed me stating that the valves I was shorted had been shipped. Then apologized for not marking them as back ordered.

Today is going to be a GREAT DAY! I don't care what happens.

Hugs,

Add very frequent vacuuming if you have rugs or carpeting. Adding the vacuuming to whatever else we did was what finally worked for us each year.

Good luck on your first day at work!

First day started with some additional training videos.  Then following another employee and ringing up some sales.  I find their point of sales system has a lot going on click here for this and there for that then finding a place on the screen that confirms what you’ve done so far.  It doesn’t help matters that it is the highest volume site in the area.  I expect to get faster just as soon as I can figure out where things are on the screen and follow the touch here first then there and get the screen better memorized.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?
