My favorite MRE was discontinued. Country Captain Chicken. Yes I remember MRE's that old.

You're only old if you remember C-Rations and having to scrape the grease off the top of the can of spaghetti and meatballs before you could eat. And John Wayne bars, Track Pads and Cherry Nut Bread.

But there was some sublime pleasure from a can of peaches or fruit cocktail that you stuck in a snow drift overnight so that it was cold for breakfast.

@Ashley0616

I was in the Army Reserve in 1981 to mid 83. Can't remember a lot about rations but for the coffee mixed into condensed milk, tinned peaches and crackers and tinned cheese. All the weapons and vehicles we Vietnam era (as well as dozens of Vietnam Vets). It is possible the rations were of the same era lol. On field exercises, as we had to maintain light discipline, we had to suck the coffee mix out of the tube to get a caffeine hit. Certainly, none of the rations had names - just a description.

Ah yes I remember the light discipline. We called shooting the coffee grounds a "Ranger Shot."

Mine was the beef patty. Mix the patty with the beans and some water, heat, good. Did you ever do C-rats?

I remember these well, and the little packs of cigarettes and "waterproof" matches.  I only in the last few years quit caring a P 38 on my keychain.  Just don't have much use for it anymore.  (or the smokes, fortunately)

I had to look up whether a P38 was what I thought it was.  Yup, we had the same thing, though we didn't use that term.  I still remember what we called the canned mystery meat in one of the ration packs - basically a body part that a MTF trans horse would want to do without.

I actually save my green eggs and ham for my last C rat. Luckily, I was able to heat it up. It was actually palatable.

IDK why anybody thought putting egg anything in MRE's or canned food was a good idea.  Even fresh eggs aren't everybody's favorite....  My husband told me the tale of the "Vomelet" MRE.  I guess it was a mid-2000s thing, and was supposed to be a vegetarian omelette meal.  Apparently even dogs and raccoons prefer hot rotting garbage to the Vomelet.

Good morning

another quickly, the only mre’s I ever ate were surplus and purchased when I was backpacking with my son on trails such as the Appalachian trail in Virginia.  Since the were hand picked and made over a backpack stove the weren’t that bad.

bast messhall food was at the army chow when I was in tech school and we went to Rocky Mountain Arsenal for our practical exams.  Maybe it was just the nerve gas talking but they at well.

worst was a open late place in Bangkok when we ate Rat by mispronouncing beef.  Didn’t help that we had a Cambodian girl trying to translate English to Thai.

Most surprising meal was eating liver my first night of basic and thinking how bad the steak was.

Ah yes it was the MRE that no one wanted. It tasted ok if you used all of the Tabasco sauce and a few of your buddies. We had other dares too. One was to eat the MRE cracker in under a minute. No one was able to.

Good morning, Happy Friday to everyone,

I didn’t serve in the military, however my best friend and another very close classmate did. I do enjoy hearing their banter about which branch was the better. My best friend attended West Point and the other is and always will be a Marine. Happy 248th Birthday USMC.

Everybody know that the Air Force is the best branch to serve. Bar none.

Only military members can dis on other branches. Some kind of code or something.

Well have been in a fairly good mood the last few days. Had another fantastic session with my therapist on Wed. Have a good prospect on a new job. It is with a foreign car repair place. As a parts person. I know the owners as I dealt with them both while at my former position. He should be calling Monday to come in and have a talk with him and his wife.

Hugs,

Oh absolutely no doubt about ‘up and away into the wild blue yonder! Flying high into the sky’. USAF Vet! (Who never once was in an Air Force plane except at a static display)

So tonight, I’m going to see if the dough recipe I’ve been using will make dinner rolls.  I sure hope so cause if it flops it’s a lot of ingredients to toss out.

@KymmieL good luck with the interview Monday.

rough couple of weeks ahead for me.  Switching back and forth between stores.  Mostly opening, including on Thanksgiving.  Is what it is, a pay check to supplement my retirement income.

All I know is that the Air Force is the Army Airline and the Navy is Uber for Marines.  🙂

And, don't get me started on Space Balls. 🤣

I remember as a young officer hanging Air Force recruiting posters over the urinals in the Officer's Club bathroom - Aim High!

Seriously, a huge salute to all who served!!!

I would prefer a pill for society to forget their prejudices. I would prefer society abstain from the avarice of power. What actual harm have we caused that is worthy of the pain inflicted in that we seek to “remedy” ourselves.   Yes, surely, there is calm in oblivity. A dull, grey, painless calm.
    • Betty K
As to the question at hand, would I take some pills to wake up happy as a cis man? No, because I’m happy as a transfemme. But for many years the answer would have been yes.
    • Betty K
That’s good. I agree I can see how some folks might conflate the two.
    • AllieJ
Betty, I'm not conflating anything. There is no listing for transness, the only formal listing for diagnosis is for Gender Dysphoria. The official bodies have stayed away from using the term transgender as none can classify it. As the only diagnosis is Gender Dysphoria, I can see why the masses would conflate it with trans, and label us as with mental problems, as it is the only information they have!    Hugs,   Allie

Logically taking his argument there, he is simply two in a line of 47 POTUS.  Kamala or Hillary would have been nothing first that way. Its the 2 count that makes her unique.
    • Betty K
@AllieJ it sounds as though you’re conflating transness and gender dysphoria. The DSM-5 deliberately does not classify transness itself as a disorder. Dysphoria is simply the distress that can arise from gender incongruity. Nobody gets diagnosed as being transgender.
    • AllieJ
The only formal diagnosis for us currently in place is in DSM-5, The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. While currently there is no 'cure', as it is listed as a disorder, it leads towards the concept of 'cure'. In 2018 the WHO reclassified transgender from a mental condition to a medical condition within the normal range of human experience, named Gender Incongruence. Don't get offended by the term 'condition'. Life is a medical condition.    For the next couple of years the APA was asked when they would change the DSM to reflect the WHO classification, as most world bodies quickly adopted it. The APA finally released the DSM-5 classification for Gender Dysphoria, management admitting that part of the driver to their classification was to keep funding available under the American health system as driven by insurance companies. This has not benefitted the rest of the world whose healthy systems are government based.    Mental disorders are the least health condition accepted by the general public as they are generally abstract, and the public views sufferers as 'faulty'. We are not 'faulty' and I believe this classification of a mental disorder is wrong. This is why there is no 'cure' under the current system. But it is also why we struggle for legitimacy in the eyes of the general public, and why there is fear in the community. Think about it, would you be comfortable with your children sharing intimate spaces with someone diagnosed with a mental disorder? It would raise your caution levels, and has for much of the community. Right, or wrong, this is why MAGA gets support so easily.   Would I take the option to not be trans?   Let's see, being trans has given me terror through my childhood, critical distress through puberty, has robbed me the opportunity of ever having close friends lest they discover my secret, cost me 2 marriages and caused me to raise my children on my own, made me live in isolation as an adult so I could be myself behind locked doors and closed curtains, given me chronic stress to the point of a breakdown go my health, caused a heart attack and 2 cardiac arrests, and consigned me to loneliness in my senior years. Would I give all that up to have a so called 'normal' life with more wealth, friends, and a spouse? You bet!   Hugs,   Allie

I agree with this also, let people be themselves. I didn't mean to say that anyone is more or less anything, more meant that being true to who you are isn't necessarily determined by outfit.
    • Graceful Curves
The hormones are doing their thing.  I now have curves, small breasts, and a cute feminine belly.  Mom says I look pregnant, LOL!
    • MaeBe
Just because we don’t do gender the same, doesn’t mean anyone is less or more so said gender—or a threat to yours. Let the person wear fishnets to the clinic. Wear that hoodie to church. Wear the makeup or don’t. But for the love of all that we hold dear, please stop clutching your pearls when someone dresses outside your boundaries of style or perceived appropriateness.

I agree.  There is something that is deep inside us that's independent of clothes etc.  They are only how we express ourselves in the moment.
