Got home from the Pride Fest.

It went pretty well.  Really there weren't any protesters.  I saw a couple of guys with signs with them, but nothing really.  Someone told me they were up at the end of the block for a bit, but I never saw them.

They did have a drag show.  I had never been to one.  It was okay I guess, kinda fun.  But this was "family friendly" and on the court square of course.

I did see some people I knew, including my next door neighbor - which surprised the heck out of me.  I think she was there because a family member had a booth with baked goods.

Didn't see the BDSM folks though.

@christinakristy2021 NOVA!  I lived in NOVA from 1984 to 2006.  The traffic drove me out.  I lived in Centreville.  Which part are you in?  We loved riding the bicycle trails W&OD, C&O Canal, Mount Vernon Trail, Capital Crescent.  There sure is a lot to do in that area.

After NOVA we moved to Stephan’s City which is near Winchester.

I'm in Prince William County. Dumfries.

I am so very tired right now.  This weekend was the biggest field exercise (war game) for our County Defense.  Two other counties also participated, and it lasted 3 whole days.  Since my husband, two of my female partners, and two of my older stepkids were involved, I had a lot more chores and childcare to do this weekend.  Even both of my good friends were doing stuff, so I've just stayed home all weekend.

And I've been missing my husband.  He left home on Friday morning, and just barely got home an hour ago.  I don't think he has slept at all.  Part of the emphasis of the weekend is cramming as much into it as possible, and pushing everybody hard.  72 hours of busy, high-stress, sleepless, rough conditions.  I'm already preparing for the fact that he's going to get sick this week.  And then he'll be busy next weekend with the "afterwards" part of it - meetings, discussion, analysis.  He and GF can't even stop talking about it together now that they're home. -_-  They're literally having an animated discussion in the shower right now....

So yeah.  Worn out and kind of lonely.

Yesterday afternoon my apartment started flooding. I called maintenance and started cleaning up. As I was grabbing a bucket of water I received an electrical shock. My fall detection device connected to an operator and offered to call the fire department.

The electricity to my unit was disconnected until it drains, and I was asked to stay the night in a motel.

It was a very eventful afternoon!

I won't be going to the centre today, and I have a later checkout here set for 6pm. That gives them time to get my unit ready.

Management didn't pay for my motel stay and said I should save my receipt to give to the gentleman upstairs that left his water running. I don't anticipate being reimbursed my $80 USD.

Hope your day is much better than mine. 🤣

Take everything with a smile is the best we can do!

Yikes.

I hope there wasn't much actual damage to your apartment.  Getting stuck with the bill sucks as well.

As I was leaving much of the drywall on the ceiling collapsed. I won't know the extent of damage to my things until I get back there this afternoon.

Good morning

it’s Monday and I actually got to sleep in. I go in to work at 11:00!  And we have all four management working together.  Not something normal.  It is a “truck” day meaning we get deliveries but we have plenty of stock so the delivery should be small.

@awkward-yet-sweet that sounds like quite a war game. Do you split the group up so that there are two sides or are the drills just one group working together?

have a good Monday, be safe.  South Carolina has been having a series of earthquakes again,  this time in the foothills.  Before they were all centered in the central area.  Clearly the Atlantic plate is moving again.

Yeah, the annual October exercises are always 2 sides.  Sometimes they'll even add a "third actor" to simulate interference and add chaos. The scenario can be either Federal or foreign invasion, sometimes they simulate organized/disorganized civil unrest.  This year was bigger than in the past.  I'm not really sure how it all works, since I'm not part of it.  But oh, it is so noisy!  Afterwards, there's a lot of discussion and analysis, just trying to improve everybody's skills and thinking in case we have trouble here.  Its sad this is part of our world now - 2020 changed everything for us.

5 years later, our area looks and feels really different.  In many ways, its been good.  We have lots more local business and local industry, and more diverse local agriculture.  We're much more resilient.  People are more connected to each other, and response to disasters like fires and tornadoes is much more comprehensive.  My county has a mutual-aid agreement with a couple of other counties, which has been helpful.  I'm not sure what the future holds, but hopefully we're in better shape than we were before.

Wow, that sux.  Hopefully the damage isn't bad, and you can get compensation for it.  Crazy that your apartment owner doesn't think they owe you anything.  Getting something out of another tenant might be like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip...

I have renters insurance with a $500 deductible, so worse case scenario it costs me $500.

Birdie, contact your insurance agent and they should help you by having the upstairs tenant pay or use their insurance. You shouldn’t need to pay a deductible since it was caused by someone else. If your insurance company doesn’t cover your housing costs while repairs are being made, check with the Red Cross and Salvation Army. These agencies help with housing when people are displaced by flood and fire damage.

Started on the job today and it was a mess and my new employee is a hard worker. Got into it after telling him how I wanted it done listening to me. Also a quick learner on the spot. Have one bedroom almost finished doing the drywall replacement and start on the next one tomorrow. The new customers came in to check on the work and are 100% impressed with the work

The guy upstairs didn't have insurance, so there as no pocket to grab from.

All the food in the refrigerator spoiled after 15 hours of no power, and a few items in the freezers were ruined. It maybe totaled to about $50 in food. The night's stay in the motel was only $76. None of my appliances were ruined, and maintenance did a wonderful job in clean-up. The electrical short that jolted me was found to be the fluorescent fixture in the kitchen, and they replace the whole fixture. Basically the only thing they have left to fix are the holes in the ceiling, but things need to dry out a bit more before they patch that up.

The manager will try to have the man upstairs reimburse me for my losses, but he is on Social Security and a very low income Social Security. The chances of him being able to pay for my losses are slim to none.

All in all I didn't lose that much so I was very blessed.

I have an appointment with my therapist today.  It was supposed to be in-person (which I prefer) but Asheville got hit pretty bad, so it will be online.

She called me a couple of days after it hit to check up on me, and her other patients I assume.  She lost her house, herself.

I had that tree fall on mine, but it is still habitable - thankfully.

But I am glad the appointment is still on.  I'm still dealing with a lot of personal stuff.

Good morning

this is kind of a crazy week.  Worked yesterday. Today we go to Charleston for an eye doctor appointment for my wife.  I open the little store tomorrow work at my regular store Thursday, Friday, we head to Presbyterian College for the weekend of class.  Next week I open the little store twice.

My week is never the same.  I wind up checking the online schedule every night before I go to bed just to be sure it didn’t change.  It actually does sometimes.

@Birdie i’m glad your losses aren’t too bad but I agree, contact Salvation Army if you need help including a place to stay temporarily.  They might give you some money to help for having to pay for a hotel when it was unlivable.  The Salvation Army is the best., IMHO.

I am happy how the day worked out, got all the drywall up and luckily I brought a small piece I kept from another job. Even did put the joint tape and first application of the drywall compound on. Let that dry and sanded it down good and put on the second application of it down and sanded that down good. Will put down the 3rd and final application on tomorrow. New employee is impressing me more, on time and loves to learn. The customers are extremely happy with the work, told them the doors are next to be installed hopefully tomorrow followed by the trim. Seen we even cleaned up the mess too. The dumpster will be picked up on Thursday. Good news was they said a friend of theirs will be calling me. Having an issue with a door that open and closes horribly, her boyfriend installed it and it is probably installer error.

Good morning from NH enjoying my morning coffee and some music. Getting my day planned out, I have some apartment issues Im trying to resolve before the weather gets too bad. I’m also working on some projects that I’ll be proposing to a local business that frequent and have made some new friends and get support from. This started as a hobby to help while I get treatment and diagnosis medically and while I start my transition until the owner Joe and his crew at J. Pothecary inspired me with some requests.

Hailey that is so exciting, it’s always fun learning something new especially when you’ve got someone who wants to learn with you and share a mutual interest. I’m sure the both of you will enjoy the experience together learning learning not just individually though as a whole ensuring that both of you gain the most and can enjoy the new experience together.

I want to post an update for my post this morning. So my day has been very productive in regards to transitioning I called to schedule my appointment to start my journey to become Silas and expected to have to schedule out a week or so though they had an appointment available on Friday 10/18 at Planned Parenthood. I haven’t gone to J. Apothecary as of yet I’ll be stop by there for 2pm today so I can converse and provide some of my work to show them my abilities. I’m excited to let them know about the start of transitioning and how soon the process will begin. I can’t express how happy and grateful I am for all the support, positive affirmations and care I have received since I’ve joined the forum and am looking forward to sharing my experiences, progress and thoughts while I continue on my path.

Thank you T.P. Collective,

Silas

I am a 52 year old bearded newly gender fluid AMAB. I have closeted since about age 10 when I realized wow I felt when expressing myself through clothing was wrong. I think like many I first used my moms night dress around age 9 and remember it felt so good. I was home alone and stayed in her night dress all day simply playing with my toys in my room. Around age 10 I got caught and was shamed for it. I went a few years before the impulse to dress became to strong to ignore. I began, occasionally dressing in secret. Around this time I had a secret boyfriend and I would use his sisters clothing once in a while until he said it was weird, so back in the closet I would go and stay. I never connected sexuality to dressing. The feelings I experienced were more around comfort and pretty. After several failed relationships, 1 failed marriage, and 2 children, I met my current partner at age 22. I had 2 children, she had 2 children, we married, and had another. I did not fully dress for about 8 or 9 years but the impulse was strong. Around age 30 or so I came out to my partner. We were members of an internet group that was often openly sexual in nature. I had offered a questionnaire into one of the forums and one of the questions was "Have you ever warn clothing of the opposite sex?". We each answered the questions together and she was surprised by my answer. I was to find that, though she was surprised, she was supportive and encouraging. At the time our children were between the ages of 5 and 10, so I was limited to dressing only in our bedroom at night and/or when our children were at school. I would love those days. I would get up in the morning and see my wife off to her job, get the kids off to school, and get changed to spend the day as Dani, well back then it was Emily (long story). This went on for about 4 years off and on. I never really felt confident in how I looked to dress when alone with my wife except a few times or at night. After we bought our new home in 2009 I stopped again. The house was smaller, the kids were older, and we hit kind of a lull in our marriage. I was worried my kids would catch me or that my partner would no longer accept me. For the previous 13 years I have hid myself behind a mask of "gentle masculinity" is what my partner calls it. My partner and I have worked very hard at becoming each others best friend, support, lover, nurturer, and partner. We have a relationship that I never thought possible, but I stilled harbored shame, guilt, and fear about this masked part of who I am.  Recently, last month, I had a dream which left me feeling conflicted. It involved me being dressed as Dani and helping my partner prepare for something hurtful to myself. I felt conflicted because I felt hurt by what was going on in the dream, but I also felt excited about having been dressed and the impulse was again strong. I spoke to my partner about the dream and all of the feelings associated with it. I still struggle quite a bit with the shame and stigma that was instilled in me as a child. Again my partner was not only accepting and supportive but also encouraging. I have a hard time sometimes trusting it is true, but she has never lead me to know otherwise. So, here I sit today, about 3 weeks later next to my partner watching TV dressed as Dani, well as much as I am comfortable with at the moment. I shared with her a picture from yesterday. Yesterday while she was at work I wore my new burgundy tights and shirt, plaid skirt, and shoes. I am able to dress and be who I am and someday I will be be able to share that with her in person. I am still very self-conscious and sometimes feel fear and shame around it, but she is helping me work through it. Anyways, that's me. I am not thrilled with having a full beard and mustache, but I am a Santa during the Christmas season with a couple of good paying accounts, so, well at least for now, I am a full bearded genderfluid project in the working.

hi, sorry there are so many replies to my thread and i don’t know how to fully reply to most of them besides saying i appreciate the support <3 seeing so many older trans people talk about their experiences really helps.    i want to ask people on here if i pass as male or not, should i make another thread for this? or is there one already set up. once again, i’m clueless. i have used forums before, but i’m just unsure as to how this particular one works.  i hate to say it, but the cat photo i’d attached isn’t even mine ☹️ he’s just a reaction image i like to use and i put it there to lighten the mood. BUUUUT,, at my grandmother’s house in turkey we do have kittens. i’ll show you :D i mainly just want to medically transition, find a nice partner and stuff. maybe pursue music? i think i want to be a GP, but i’m not sure yet.

Exactly. Straight in your own mind about who and what you are and where it might be leading before trying to explain something to someone else. Part of my preparation was to be ready to spend several days in a hotel or with friends/family if wife needed the space and time to process. Not to sound all Scriptural, but you are asking for faith, patience and understanding &c, in so much as you ask these of her, be willing to extend them to her in kind.

Dear Kyleigh,    I do understand that yours is not an easy situation, as I have been through this myself.    I read your post one two hours ago, and I’ve been wondering since what could be the best advice I could give you, in order to help you.    I think the most important thing is for you to be well prepared in your mind about what you will tell her.    First of all, I think the most important is to speak from the deepest point possible inside you heart: if you know that you are a trans woman, it’s better to say it frankly than to begin with a “softer” presentation of things like “I like to dress as a woman”. The most sincere it is, the easiest to understand and to accept IMO. Because if it’s a condition you really experience in every part and moment of your life, it can’t just be ignored. Someone who would just like to wear women’s clothes for fun is obviously not in the same situation. You can resist and manage an addiction, it’s much more difficult to do it with a real mental condition.   Another important thing also is to be sure that the way you will say it is not biased by other problems in your couple, or she may not be able to think about what you said with an open mind. For example, you being a trans woman can explain some aspects of your behaviour as a husband that don’t please her, but make sure that when you talk about it, she won’t feel like you are trying to blame her for anything. In my own story, understanding my being a trans woman explained a lot of frustration my wife had because she thought I wasn’t acting like a normal husband in numerous circumstances. Actually, she was right to think what she thought, as I wasn’t a “normal” husband. And I can’t blame her for thinking this. Actually my coming out helped a lot to ease our relations. Now she knows what she can’t await from me and why, and she also enjoys a more relaxed state in our relationship.   So it’s important that you have a clear idea of what you want to say and how you want to say. How you will introduce the subject, how you will formulate it. For all of this, a therapist is a good person to work on it with.    Plus it’s important that you take your time to be able to speak in a relaxed and peaceful way, and also that the moment is adequate for her to be able to really listen, and not be bothered by material worries. It there is stress whatsoever, if there is a time schedule, is there are upcoming social obligations, the risk is that you won’t have time enough to explain the things in a coherent and most possible depassionate way. Or that she won’t be present enough in the situation to receive a sincere message coming from your heart. Or that she won’t have enough time and peace of mind to be able to understand what you are telling her, to receive it, to process it, and to be able to understand what she thinks of it. And to ask you questions. And to listen to your answers. And so on.    So the best would be for example an evening when you have no obligations, and several hours in front of you, that you would have usually spent dining, talking and watching tv.    So the answer to your initial question would be: talk to her -as soon as you are clear about what you want to tell her, and you are sure that it comes from your heart and is not biased by other problems in your couple -when you think you will have enough time together discuss it, i.e. she has time and peace of mind to receive what you are telling her, and you have time and peace of mind also to receive her reactions.    If you manage to do so, I think the fact that she can have some days afterwhile to think it further can be a good thing.     Sorry for the long post, but yours was not an easy question!!!   All the best,   Cheers,    Rose
