Has anyone tried Sugar Waxing?

I just recently did the whole saving everything but my head, arms, and front private area.  I love the feeling and am hoping to continue shaving these areas from here on out.  I realize there are more permanent solutions but until I'm full time, shaving was what I was planning to continue.

 

I really don't enjoy all the shaving and my wife surprised me with a "new to me" product called SugarMeSmooth.  It's about $53 a jar with shipping and contains a complete kit to do your entire body...hurts just thinking about it.  We watched one informational video on it and it looks very promising. The benefit over regular waxing is that the sugar method does not stick well to skin cells but sticks very well to hair.  So unlike regular waxing you don't loose a layer of skin each strip.  You can repeat on the same area over and over without the worry of skin damage.  Also, they say that it will keep hair at bay for 4-6 weeks depending on hair growth.  Most people who stay on the program for long periods begin having thinner and more sparse hair growth.

 

Well, two days ago I found out there are (4) Sugar Plum centers with specialize in this hair removal technique.  I immediately called them and got some general information from a person who seemed very knowledgeable and was led to the website area for pricing.  It's not as cheap as I would've hoped but they have a VIP deal every January.  It works out to be about half off on all procedures and if you schedule the next within 6 weeks.  I thought that was a good deal.  For instance, doing my entire face...chin, under chin, upper neck mustache, side burns cheeks, and eye brows worked of to ~$75 a month.  I thought I'd at least do it for a few months to learn their technique before doing it myself.  I called back the next day to schedule a consult and spoke to the employee at length just to find out the don't do men's beards.  The reason I guess is that men's beards have heavy multidirectional crosshatching.  Also, it requires a special license here in Washington state to shave or remove men's beards.  So I was misled by the person I talked to originally and can get everything done except my face.  That immediately put a damper on my plans although I still might get some done to learn the process to do it myself since I have the kit.  I'm only concerned about doing my own face.  Obviously, Sugar Plum won't so me unless I'm female.  Does anyone here have any experience with doing your face using the Sugar Wax method?

Would laser hair removal  for the face not be a better solution?  I could imagine that you would hurt your face quite a bit when pulling out a massive amount of hair at the same time?

I am lucky and do not have a lot of beard growth, and can control it with shaving once or twice a week!

 

Would you also do genital hair with this?  That also sounds painfull, but would be the only hair I would need to remove on my trunk/body.

According to what I've researched, it's not as painful as regular waxing because it does not remove skin cells with the hair.

Yes, they do sugaring on that area too.  They said it was very common for guys to get that done too...it's not for me though.  I'd rather shave that area than any kind of waxing.

I do not have any body hair, or arm or leg hair, just some genital hair.  Because of this, I am not used to get hair pulled out of my body, and I would be scared like hell to have this done!

I’m interested in this method for my body as a temporary solution that is cheaper than laser at the moment, but I’m not sure about going in for a treatment. How much coverage does that kit give? I’m familiar with waxing and I’ve done it myself in the past but it’s painful. The attraction for me is how it’s gentler on the skin. I’m very prone to irritation and anything that minimizes that is great.

It is similar to epilating in that it pulls hair out.  This can lead to ingrown hairs so be careful.  You certainly don't want to do this on your face as the hair is different than other body hair and it could cause issues.  As suggested, laser is an acceptable method to reduce hair growth or electrolysis to permanently remove it.

The proper light color of a laser and enough intensity will permanently destroy any dark hair.  It will not work well on blonde hair or white hair.  Electorlysis is the only permanent solution for light colored hair, and it seem that all good hair removal is combined with pain

Well... It turns out that I'll be pretty much strictly electrolysis. My hairs are just too light. Just got a text from Doc stating that... I was scheduled for more laser on Thurs but he ordered electrolysis instead due to lightness

I have had sugar hair removal on everything but my face.  I have also had my legs waxed.  I have tried a home wax kit.  I have also tried an epilator.  I think for short term hair removal sugar is the best technique.  It is gentler then waxing, but more expensive.  For legs it is not a big difference, legs don't hurt much, and not worth the extra cost for sugar.  It is by far the most effective method for removal of pubic hair.  The pubic hair grows back very quickly.  The most painful spot is actually the same on both males and females--the area right above the penis on a male and right where the labia become the mons pubis on a female.  The first time is more painful then the regular service because there is less hair.  Over time the hair does grow back thinner and finer; however, this is MUCH MUCH slower than laser.  It would take years and years to have no hair.  The area does stay really smooth for about two weeks, then you start to feel the stubble coming back.  I found doing it myself is challenging to get an even result--that what the professional does.  

 

My final conclusion was it is worth it to try being hairless.  However, once you have decided that you like it, I would switch to laser and a more permanent solution.  

 

One pro tip--no caffeine several hours prior to hair removal.  I don't know why, but it hurts a ton more after a cup of coffee.

Is there any reason, beside aesthetics and bottom surgery to remove ones pubic hair?

Most of us are rather dysphoric about the genitals, and for me it would be almost traumatic to have to fumble around down there to get a baby face like appearance!

I am blessed with very limited hair growth down there, but even handling that little bit does not sound really exciting. 

 

If I have to get it removed because of surgery, I probably will go with laser from day one.  The more clinical setting of laser removal would not bother me as much, I think.

The reason beyond aesthetics to remove pubic hair for transwomen would be some of the more "agressive" hiding techniques, like taping, would be horrible with hair.

If you hardly have anything left to hide (or really never had much to start with, like me), the hair may be the largest amount that needs hiding.

I can wear any swimsuit without needing to do any special hiding action, as I said, the hair may need too be trimmed a little, but I don't even have much of that!

I'm with you, Briana, all the way on this.  The only time I would ever remove hair in that area is permanently in prep for bottom surgery.

Jane Shannon,  I found a salon that does it down the road from me, according to Google, but haven't called them to verify or even check their prices yet.  However, if you've used someone and would recommend their work..sure, msg me the info.

 

I'm still trying to grow my body hair out long enough to have the procedure done.  I shaved everything a few weeks ago and the hair is growing back slower than molasses.  It'll be at least another week before it's ready for waxing.

My wife and I are sort of snowbound right now and we both thought it would be a good day to try Sugar Waxing.  Back in early January, my wife had bought me a complete kit with enough to do my entire body excluding face.  Well, we set up everything and then watched the "How To" video on the procedure.  It looked so simple.  As it turns out...it wasn't.

 

The tempature of the sugaring material needs to be within a few degrees of 72°F.  The directions say most indoor home temps should be adequate but if it's too hard...place the Sugar jar in a bowl of warmer water.  That's what my wife did as the sugar seemed too hard.  This softened the material enough to easily scoop it onto a small card.  I wanted to start with my chest area first...big mistake. Holy mother of...., it was so painful and seemingly impossible to pull off.  What a sticky mess I was in.  My wife proceeded to add more....big mistake number 2. Now I had a bigger mess on my chest.  Pulling it (just like the video) caused the entire area to raise up and look like a coffee coaster size welt.  Needless to say, I spent the next 15 mins in the bathroom trying to get this sugary mess off my chest.  That was it.  I was done and I cleaned up the mess.

 

I was particularly disappointed because I had let all my body hair grow out over the last 3 weeks specifically for this purpose.  Also, my wife was trying to do something nice for me and unfortunately, it fell flat.  My wife was nice enough to let me use an unopened can of her Nair which turned out to be just enough to complete the task.  So now I have a smooth clean body but I'll probably have to worry about hair stubble in a few days unlike the sugar waxing.  As they say...Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry!

Hi Susan, my soul mate sugar waxed my back for me several years ago and it was effective. HRT eventually made body hair a non issue with me. Now days all i need is light touch ups on legs and arms about once a month. I needed over 300 hours of electro on my face. We have 8 inches of new snow here, think i'll do my nails here in a bit, we are not going far. Body hair maintenance does become much easier for most the longer you are hrt. Hugs sis...

Well, I think I'm going to let my wife use the Sugar Waxing kit.  I would like to give it a go again but I notice my hair came in much much slower and thinner than back in my 20's when I shaved but wasn't on HRT.  After using the Nair, I'd have to wait 3 weeks minimum to get enough hair to retry it.  I'm convinced the Sugaring process works but there is definitely some skill required to do it.  Next time, I won't start on my breasts.  That was a mistake.

I'd recommend starting with your shins. The skin is taut, there is not a not as much hair there anyway, and that area is not super sensitive to pain.
