Okie Dokie!

Number 10...Electrolysis!

Now we're working on the area around the mouth....Do you realize how CLOSE hairs grow to your mouth????

DANG!!!!

I take Advil before the session!

I drink lots of water before the session because you need to be hydrated to make the process work correctly!

She rubs a Lidocaine solution on the areas that she will be working on to help numb it...

She puts a cloth across my eyes because she has a bright light right down over my face....

The cloth was soaked because I had lots of tears coming out !

She rests her hand on my my mouth and then talks to me and asks questions that I can't answer.....lol....So I just grunt!

It's going very well and I am truly happy with the progress....2 hours yesterday!

I asked to use her bathroom and she said to be careful...two men (husband & son) had just used it!

Girls stick together...lol

And she calls me Donna Jean!

Oh my!

Saturday's electrolysis.....

OUCH!

Mostly upper lip.

But, when I told her that I have vacation coming up in a couple of weeks she proposed that I schedule 8-9 hours over the period of 3 days (3 hours a day or so) and get a whole bunch done !

I've gotta think about that!

And I'll tell you what....Doing the upper lip is NO fun! But, it's mostly cleared now...WHEW!

So, maybe a lot this month....I'll let everyone know what I do about that!

HUGGS!

I finished my eighth laser session and she said from now on they are just maintenance, i still have lots of white hairs so i set up an appointment and consult to start electro next week, i have a high pain threshold and it couldn't be too much more painful than the laser.

Hi Paula,

from my experiences, electro is much more painful than laser, but I am a wuss  I tried both on my face, first laser, than electro and I decided to stay with the laser, but everyone is different.

Wish you luck and hope it is not too painful

I'm a complete and utter baby when it comes to pain. How much does electrolysis hurt? Is it about the same as shaving dry with no shaving cream or is it worse?

I found a place in Old Town Alexandria about 30 minutes away from me that has a sliding scale for the cost.

15 minutes is $47

30 minutes is $76

45 minutes is $94

60 minutes is $114

Is that about on par with typical costs?

How much does it hurt? OMG that is a hard concept to explain....

Number one...the current can be turned up and down and the pain with it...But remember...lower the current and it will take twice as long.

I have her crank up the current and just get it done! I take some Advil before I go in.

Inserting the little needle into the hair follicle is painless...The current is then applied..about 8 seconds per hair...it kinda stings a bit...but goes right away.

My face is a little red where she worked for the rest of the day then it clears up.

I've had 12 2 hour sessions so far..and I'm taking a break for a few weeks!

My electrologist's rates are:

20 minutes $25

30 minutes $30

40 minutes $35

50 minutes $40

60 minutes $45

90 minutes $60

And 2 hours $70

Not bad, eh?

My girl's prices are so good because she is in the middle of Amish country and don't want to scare off clients. She is also a Registered Nurse!

I wish I could give you a better understanding of how it feels...kinda like a pinch...

I wouldn't equate it with dry shaving...different from that...

Good Luck, Honey!

Wow thats a cheap rate. :( everything in the DC metro area is super expensive.

Is anyone else from the Virginia area by any chance that knows of a good place?

I just had my 1st appointment and it went quite well. She said I should do laser on my upper lip because the hairs are dark enough so I am going down the street to check into it later today. things seem to be going well.

OMG! I can really relate to this one Donna Jean. I just finished a 2 hour electrolysis session that included getting rid of the regrowth I had on my upper lip from my first round of electrolysis with another technician, but this time I had an idea from what I learned from doing the most painful area of your face. At my asking, my technician made arrangements with the dentist that is just down the hall from her office and I went into him about 15 minutes before my session and got 4 shots of Novocaine in my upper lip. WOW! What a difference this time. If it wasn't for her stretching my skin in this area to make sure she had gotten all the hair, I could have slept through this area. By far and away the best $50.00 I ever spent. :)

Well, week 4 and nothing really to report...still doing 1 1/2 hours and 45 minutes per side of face.

But, we ARE making progress and I'm very happy about what is getting done!

I do really hate not being able to shave from Wednesday 'til Saturday afternoon..Dang!

Don't feel very feminine then....

And I won't be able to go for the next two weeks as she has other obligations....

But the BEST part of today's session was ...while working on me she got kinda quiet...then she asked.."May I ask you a question?" She asked me about being Transgendered ...EVERYTHING about it and we talked and talked....

I came out to her on the second visit and last week we just chit-chatted ...But, today...OMG!

She asked me if I was gonna have the surgery and I told her that I planed to do that...

Then she asked me if I would need genital electrolysis......OMG....OMG....OMG..:blink:

Well, anyway, it was a fun time and more hairs are permanently gone...WOO HOO!!!

I'll let you know what happens next time...

Well from a practical standpoint, I think you do so you don't have hairs inside the um .... but wow painful prospect.

I know exactly how you feel. Everyday I look in the mirror and a little more hair is gone and I smile a little inside.

Thanks for the update, Donna Jean –

I’ve had about 6 hours and have a noticeable difference in the sides of my face and my eyebrows.

I’ve told my electro to “go slowly” and she’s been great!

BTW, I’ve talked to her about everything, too, but she won’t do genital 

Glad things are going well!!

Hugs! - Kayleigh

:o omg neither would I. Maybe I'll just go with laser and get it done in a few minutes a few times and not have to be poked and prodded there.

Well DJ i have had 9 laser sessions and the dark hairs for the most part are gone, in July i started electrolysis for the white hairs, i have been real aggressive having 30 minute sessions on my lunch hours and an hour on Saturdays, so far 19 hours and counting, other than my lip area, i am saving that for last, my face has been cleared and my neck will be in the next week, she spends time each session re-clearing anything she sees.

By November i should only need cleanups once a week so i have only Saturday sessions in November and December.

Well, I've been using this thread that I started to keep everyone up to date on my progress and for discussion of electrolysis..

I'm starting back up again tomorrow after a hiatus (saved money for the Memphis trip) and it's time to get back on the table..

So, tomorrow I'll leave the house at 7:30 and drive an hour north for my 8:30 appointment!

I'll be getting for 3 hours at a time for the next 5-6 weeks.....I miss Ann Marie, my electrologist...we've become friends!

I'll take her a fist full of flowers from my yard in the morning!

Oh, and I didn't shave since yesterday morning and I don't feel very feminine at the moment...kinda like the bearded lady at the circus...DANG!

I HATE that part!

So, up early and off for more zaps!

Huggs....

OMG!

I hate to post under my own post (bad mojo)....

But I went for another session yesterday at 8:30am....

Much more of the same except this time we went back up under the nose..YIKES! That hurts like H E double hockey sticks! DANG!

Were there any tears?

you had better believe it, Cupcake!

It was a 3 hour session and she uses a timer and we take breaks...we both need it!

So I get the whole 3 hours of her time even though I'm there usually 4 hours...

Oh, and for those of you who are curious...

It's $45 an hour..

And only $105 for 3 hours!

Great rates!

More later!

Good morning, everyone!! I've been finally able to sleep a bit longer in the morning - getting up  now around 5 instead of 3 or 4 AM. I've had my first cup of coffee - I take a cup for my wife and I into the bedroom at 6 each morning and we do Wordle and Quordle together. On to reading the local paper next.   Did some work outside cleaning up for spring yesterday and took our one of our mowers in for service. I am so ready for Spring!   Quiet day today, I think.   And, @Willow, that is excellent advice. We all get caught up in the negativity sometimes. Life is way too short not to find some joy in every day.

I've played golf for many years...not especially well and have used more than my share of profanities. My wife decided to take up the sport more seriously several years ago and we play in a 9 hole summer league but on different teams. We've spent some time on a simulator at the course where our league plays until it warms up a bit. I also enjoy watching PGA and LPGA (especially) tournaments...but won't have anything to do with LIV.   I knew PXG gave military/first responder discounts - looked at them when I got new clubs a few years ago - but didn't know they had a PRIDE line of clothing. I'll check that out!!

Hi, and welcome to the forum!!! Lots of great information here....and filled with wonderfully supportive people!! As someone just beginning this journey, too, I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

The shooter is said to have been under active treatment for an unspecified psych issue.  But we don't know what, or for how long, or whether they were on meds, or not taking them, or whether they were cooperating in their treatment, etc.  In other words, we don't know squat.  So I'm not going to guess.  What we do know is that the parents didn't want this person to have guns, but they snuck them into the house, snuck them out to commit the shooting, and Tennessee has no laws prohibiting gun purchases by persons under mental health care, or to be confiscated at the request of family.  So there were failures at many levels, and six people who paid for those failures with their lives.  So very sad and tragic.   Carolyn Marie

We do not have enough well supported mental health professionals for the job needed.  We are up against the stigma that has been given to mental health problems, some from the current protocols of treatment.  I can say for myself that Mental Health issues were not accepted as realities and certainly not something that people as intelligent and, lower upper class as my family presented itself to be could tolerate.  As a result, visits for mental health reasons were not supported or even believed by my family.  With the lack of support and acceptance even I could not accept myself for needing Mental Health assistance and thus could not benefit from it.  The denial culture, and it is a culture greatly infects the most needful segments of our society.  It is the self denial of the politicians who fund the treatment and local medical services in general that is a big roadblock.  It is circular and self damning but we need to improve on it.

I'd have preferred less focus on the man with the funny mustache from the 1930's, but she was also limited to 2 minutes and had to go for shock value.  2 minutes is barely enough time to read  3/4 of a page single spaced text in a timely manner....she crammed a lot into her time.  Hopefully her points will be remembered.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
I would add that health professionals need to stop treating symptoms and start treating PEOPLE.  A person is not their illness.  In some variations of the oath a doctor takes upon graduating school, that concept is present.    A friend of mine ended up in the hospital last year for a mental health crisis.  The system seems mostly oriented toward substance abuse or institutionalizing somebody (with out without consent.)  It doesn't seem to do much to address somebody who is in immediate crisis, but for whom enduring the crisis is preferable to the options professionals are willing to provide.  There's a big gap.  Just my opinion, but I think that's how some of these shooters get ignored until it is too late.    Loneliness is a huge problem in the USA.  Its just my impression, but I think we're one of the most lonely nations on earth.  Lots of people living by themselves, with limited or totally non-existent circles of family and friends.  Humans are social creatures, and for some folks loneliness can turn into paranoia, anti-social behavior, or even violence.  I don't have any idea of how our society can solve that problem, although I could make a wish list of possible methods.

I enjoy cooking....or rather, helping my partners cook.  Not that good at it yet.  I enjoy taking care of kids - those in our family and also in our community.  I love how accepting they are of anybody willing to talk to them and show them interesting things.  I enjoy working in the garden, since I get to bring in the literal fruits of my labor and see how it nourishes my family.  Basically, a simple life is a good life for me.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
One more government joy.  And don't forget, there's a lot of "therapy" and "counseling" out there that is basically just Conversion Therapy Lite.  I was subjected to some of that.  There's plenty of legal ways for those in power to mess with a person's mind.

When I listened to the news this morning (the opening 18 minutes on ABC's Good Morning America) the shooter was referred to as trans.  From the videos, I gathered the shooter may have been non-binary, but it was just my gut feeling by how she was dressed and the way she carried herself.  Ultimately, though, this isn't about gender or gender care.  The fundamental root cause of mass shootings is society's blind eye to mental health.  Mass shootings tend to be a symptom of the root cause, which I believe is our inability to deal with the overwhelming mental health crisis we are facing in this country.  We have to stop treating symptoms and instead, target the actual disease.  Until we do that, these mass shootings won't go away.

That's pretty cool Hannah.  I'll check out his line PRIDE clothing.  Speaking of golf, I just booked my first tee time of the year.  Hoping to get in a bunch of rounds this year.

GLAAD publishes a media guide that is distributed to reputable media sources. This gives the media outlet information on that sort of thing.  This is a link to that guide.  https://www.glaad.org/reference   The problem is that a number of the media outlets such as the Fox and similar outlets toss it in their trash cans or outright mock the guide.     Probably this was because Australia / New Zealand medical societies do not use the same manual as is done in the U.S. and Canada, where the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health) is updated and re-published every few years, and this medical publication is where the Psychiatric and Psychological Associations collaborate and define Behavioral Health issues, and it was DSM5 where Trans was no longer considered a mental illness but was listed because the help of medical personnel is needed to alleviate the Dysphoria symptoms since the DSM is used by insurance companies to provide coverage for treatment.  Other countries in Europe and Australia and New Zealand use the WPATH Standards Of Care which was just re-published as SOC8 where the same definitions as DSM were published formally which may explain the doctor in the Southern Regions of the world was behind.

Just watched this evening and found it very uplifting. Mae is fantastic, playful and in their words "pathologically earnest"; and they speak out for the genuineness and dignity of trans lives.    Rolling Stone interview with Mae which includes trailer of their show: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/mae-martin-called-out-dave-chappelle-netflix-sap-stand-up-comedy-special-1234704683/

You’re absolutely correct Willow. However, only two years ago I encountered a doctor — a doctor claiming to be a gender specialist, no less — who apparently had not received the memo, and still spoke of Gender Identity Disorder. If she could make that mistake then a journalist definitely could.
