Hiring Signs

Hi!

 I’m recently retired and working on transitioning mtf. I’ve been on meds for quite a few years and have become feminine but not passable. I am thinking of walking into businesses that have hiring signs in the windows. I am just looking for a part time job to continue my transition in the public forum. I live in the Chicago area and I do have valuable skills to offer a small employer. It is so tiring hiding myself from society. At my last job, in a  large office, I started wearing more feminine slanted attire and showed my girly side. I had no problems and still get contacted from many of my coworkers, mostly women. Now I think it’s time to put myself out there for me. Any thoughts?

It sounds to me like you must have a great personality.  Personality always wins out over looks.  Cis women can be so understanding and accepting.  I think because we're not threatening.  If they are comfortable and like you, that's all that really matters.  Making ourselves vulnerable causes those around us to let their guard down and just go with the flow.  A nice way to be.

 

For your job search, I would focus first on women owned businesses.  Some women seem to find extra value in our two-spirited presence.

 

I think this is a good topic for @Jackie C..  She is so very open and casual like that.

Going to women owned businesses is a great idea. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. Maybe I just have to follow my heart and just be me. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Good afternoon Markie,

I'm not sure what you're looking for as a part-time job, however here in Westfield, IN the Kroger Store is very receptive to the Transgender Employee. In Carmel, IN the Ace Hardware seems to be TG friendly. My retirement date is April 8th, 2023.

Oh yea, the hardware store is a great idea.  Women or TG employees are good for attracting female business who can be reluctant to visit a hardware store and ask men for home repair assistance.   The smart store owner knows this and realizes that a TG woman also comes with that typically male dominated mechanical experience.  I've had great experiences with the 3 female employees of my local Do-It-Best store.  Much better than the veiled condescension of the male employees.

Hi Girls,

I love the ideas that you are giving me, please don’t stop. Monday or Tuesday, I am going to check out a few local hardware stores. Maybe auto parts stores? I just want them to see me in girl mode so there is no confusion. Wish me luck! ❤️❤️❤️
