how many of you are musicians

I don't consider myself a musician, but I’ve played the piano, violin, and currently learning guitar. The violin I have actually belonged to my great uncle, that I got from my grandfather.

Very nice Epiphone arch top Jacqui.

The one I worked on was a dark tobacco sunburst almost  black in the center.

I had to repair the fingerboard because some wood was missing where it had been played so much over the years.Had to re radius the fingerboard after repairing it before installing new frets.

@Ryan what a wonder instrument to get from a great uncle. Treasure it and see if it will sing in your hands.

I've been playing it for about 10 years now. When I got it, it had no strings and my parents weren't even sure if it was still playable. We showed it to my music teacher at the time, and he said it was in great condition. He put new strings on it, tuned it up and taught me how to play.

That is so sweet. I play guitar, bass, mandolin and dulcimer but could never get more then a screech out of violin. The story of ancestors passing it down and music teacher helping to get it going and just the fact you have played it for 10 years is such a great thing. Congrats and treasure it.

....I am writing a new song I long like to share when it is ready. It is called "Where You Been So Long".

Shay, Shay,
Gal, where you been so long?
Shay, Shay,
Gal, where you been so long?
I been worryin' 'bout you, baby,
Baby, please come home.

I got a bird that whistles,
I got a bird that sings.
I got a bird that whistles,
I got a bird that sings.
But I ain't a-got Shay,
Life don't mean a thing.

As you are no doubt aware you've put an entirely new twist on an old blues standard (above rendition by Dylan). how clever. Wished I woulda thought of that!

Anyway, like Dylan, I play harmonicas, only quite a bit better than him. I also play washboard, rhythm bones, and Jaw Harps. I'm an old-timey kinda gal.

Cheers,

Shelley

@Shelley L. would love to merge what you do and create an interesting hybrid. Years ago I wrote a full play with music about Dan Emmett who born and died in Mount Vernon Ohio. He wrote Dixie old Dan Tucker turkey in the straw blue tail fly. He was the father of minstrels and parodied high brow opera not the sad racist thing it became. In the play we used bones and a friend played a 1850s replica Bangor. I play harp on Beatles and Tom Petty songs along with bass and singing lead and I love a well played harp...especially if it is better than Dylan's. Loved Paul Butterfield.

Anyway do you have capabilities to take a wave file or mp3 and record a separate track and send?

Sure. Sounds like fun. I'm wide open to any ideas. How shall we connect?

Shay,

I see you play dulcimer. I do as well. Who was the maker of your dulcimer or dulcimers? I have a Folkcraft concert dulcimer and an electric Tom Yocky.

I was friends with Homer Ledford  who was famous for making dulcimers. He made the first two person sweetheart dulcimer.

He was an awesome guy and a great saw player too.Very famous in the bluegrass music world.

He taught me how to do a fret job.

@ErikkaMy left handed dulcimer was made by Rocky Mountain Dulcimers and they no longer exist.

@Teri Anne I am aware of him. You sure do have a wonderfully rich background.

Homer was a really good teacher and a very talented player.

He played the saw as well but I can't find any videos of him playing one.

He was a super nice guy and if you messed up he would tell you where you messed up and how to fix it.

Love musicians and teachers who encourage and don't demean

I don't recall if I have mentioned it, but I play classical guitar with an eye towards transferring those skills to pop music.

I wouldn't say I'm very good, but at least I can sight read music reasonably well.

Plus the guitar obsession has gone over the top... 2 classical guitars, 1 parlor acoustic, 2 electric guitars and 2 amps.

Hybrid music excites me. I love to hear instruments played in a way you wouldn't expect or music using a mixture like Bangor in a metal song.

Richie Blackmore used medieval stringed instruments in his band Blackmore's Night.

The live in Paris CD has him playing a few.

Sorry I picked a clip where the audio is not quite synced with the video.

Paris Moon is their live CD and it  is an awesome CD so buy it if you see it.

Village Lantern  is also a wonderful CD.

I like that Blackmore has completely reinvented himself. I have heard he is incredibly difficult to work though.

It's kinda weird how these people are so worked up over making these laws.  They would have no effect on cis people either way.  Yet they are the ones with the obsession.  They ought to just stay out of trans people's business.

Bean burritos are still popular in my family.   Black eyed peas are the one legume I'm not fond of.  I need to add lots of onions. And of course always cook your pintoes with fat-meat.  And for y'all yankees, navy beans with a big ol' ham bone are hard to beat.

Seek out community, not just online but in person if possible. Making trans friends is a pretty quick and easy way to gauge if you have much in common with them.

It certainly could be classed as dark humor.  Unfortunately the sentiments alone must hurt young trans folks.  Decency and reality doesn't seem to be in the GOP's vocabulary.   Hugs,   Charlize

Good morning all,    It’s a frosty morning here the lawn looks silvery, and the uncovered spring flowers have icy edges on their leaves. The only flower bed I covered was my tulips. As nice as it is here during the day, our clear wind free nights allow the temperatures to drop into the mid twenties. Here in our growing zone it’s recommended that you not plant delicate plants until Mother’s Day. Central Indiana can have snow as late as the third week of May. The birds are active at the feeders, I’ve had my cup of yoghurt and morning meds. So I’ll sit here, drink coffee and watch the as the sunrise chases the frost from the yard.    @awkward-yet-sweet I could eat black eyed peas as a side for every meal. Boil them plain or with fatback. Served as a leftover, just add in a little Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies.  Make the best of your day,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Had a weird dream last night.
    • Mirrabooka
Morning, y'all. Evening here; we had the regulation three mugs full today. Now it's time to drink something else.     No big plans here either, eldest daughter and granddaughter will be arriving on Saturday, and we will have our granddaughter to ourselves for a week after that. We still have plans though. Tuesday we'll go to the swim center, Wednesday we'll take a road trip to visit my mom, Thursday we'll get some mulch delivered to top up the gardens.   I still make other small plans on a daily basis though. The things I do plan nowadays, which is a bit new for me, is that after pinching a nerve and ending up in a bit of pain and getting some treatment from the physio, I am more motivated than ever to exercise more regularly. Tuesday for example, I went for a short (15 minute) early morning walk, went to the pool for some hydrotherapy, and mowed the lawns. Yesterday I did my exercise reps and spent some time on the exercise bike. Today, I went for a 45-minute walk, tomorrow I will do my reps again and go for a long bike ride. As long as I do at least one thing every day, right? The pleasing thing is that I'm losing weight! I blew out to above 95kg early in the year and I'm just under 91kg now. Yay me!

Positive side of the mixed bag.

Boredom is an emotional state that comes when a person has nothing to do, and is not interested in anything. To stop boredom, most people do something to occupy or amuse themselves. The first known use of the word boredom is in the novel Bleak House by Charles Dickens, written in 1852, but the saying to be a bore had been used to mean "to be tiresome or dull" since 1768. When referring to the mind, boredom is a bad state in which the person feels a deep lack of interest in what is going on around them, and where it is hard to focus.
