Cheers, @Robin.C! I thought you'd enjoy this selection. It's a piece my choir has performed, "Gaudete!" It's a modern interpretation of a 16th century Yuletide carol, and the percussion requires steel pipes, metal plate, and brake drum. A bit avant-garde, but I love it.

I've been playing the guitar since I was 10 years old, I'm 21 right now. I recorded a track just for experimentation in my condominium in Vallarta. It was a lovely experience since a hurricane was hitting and I had to be locked at the suite for 1 or 2 days, it sounds chaotic, but they were just really mild rains. I recorded this song using only GarageBand and my iPad but I think the outcome was pretty neat. I was 18 years old when I recorded this song. Now days I use Logic Pro X and an Audio Technica AT 2020. I haven't released anything since tho.

That's the song if anyone is interested

I'm a very serious musician. I've played bass in many bands, played solo acts, and now I'm composing and I'll probably share some on my music if that's OK.

I would enjoy hearing some of your stuff as well would others here. We have many good musicians on this forum and many have shared that part of themselves so feel free to do the same. Also, you might want to give us some background on yourself in the form of an intro when you have a chance.

Hey Susan,

I played in all sorts of cover bands but my real passion was writing songs. I had the good fortune of playing with a guitar player who was a schooled musician and he encouraged me to record my music. I decided to try my hand at classicalish music and one of the ones I came up with is Dorian/Doria the Greek which is based on the Dorian mode. It's rather melancholy and may bring a tear to your eye.

How have I never seen this thread until now?! I'm a drummer. I play in church, but I also like playing heavy metal and hard rock.

Hello.

Guess what has been going on in drum land. My last two lessons included being taught how to install and tune the new heads. Wonderful to hear my drums as drums.

I checked and its been 10 months of lessons. Still can't play a proper song. However I can groove a little. Is that good ? I guess so. The amount I have learnt about music is amazing. As some of you have seen in another post I've also been making a bass guitar .. or two.

The Ludwig drum looks lovely with its new hoops and tension rods has a wonderful 60s sound to it. The snare is brilliant as it should it was the most expensive of all the ones I've bought. The real surprise was the cheap 12" Tom. The new Evans heads and a good tune brought it to life. I am seriously amazed at it's tone.

Anyhow you might be wondering how to do keep Jill and the neighbours happy, well I also got a set of Evans Soundoff mutes so when I do the bulk of my practice i can still be quiet. Though now I can make some real noise :D

Pictures in the next few days when things quieten down at bit.

Hugs

Robyn

Be surprised how good a drum set sounds when its tuned properly.

I roadied for a few bands and the drummers never took the time to tune their sets.

Seriously were they deaf ? I had watched a Drumeo video where they tuned up a cheap (I think it was $100USD) and an expensive set and they sounded pretty much the same to me. So that made me think I needed to get mine right.

My floor Tom is the annoying one. I need to find some rubber mat to go under the legs as it being on a piece of carpet over tiles sounds just dead. My drum teacher showed me that it needs to be isolated from the floor so that it doesn't just sound dead (like a flat pancake - thok).

I saw one drummer had used a piece of plexiglass supported  by 4 rubber feet that sat 3 inches above the floor for his floor tom.

If it made an improvement I don't know I didn't ask him.

Not sure if that set up was for the drummer for Black Flag or the opening act.

I was busy setting up guitars back stage so I didn't get to see the show.

Since we have a new lease on the forum.

I thought I'd add a note here. See what I did there 😉

Anyhow 😀

Drum lessons all last year, I'm still rubbish, though ... I can hold a groove ... a bit now and my drum is in tune and nice to bang around on.

So why post here. Well I've discovered Bass guitar !! Yes true.

Apart from the one I'm making for no other reason than to see if I could (Project to keep me busy). I decided to buy a cheap one.

And Omergerd, I think I have found my instrument !!!

My fingers fit the strings and understand how to pick the strings and even the practice stuff sounds like proper musical sounds. 🎼 Does that make any sense.

The drums lessons have been invaluable for the understanding of music theory which had eluded me for years.

Anyways since I was feeling  a bit off from this cold I figured I should do something positive and give others hope, that you can find enjoyment in learning no matter if you are any good or not.

Rock on 🤘

Hugs

Robin that is so nice to read.  I love Bass!  With the drums you are your own rhythm section!

I'm a singer, fronting a band here in southern Michigan. I'll probably post some of our songs once we actually record something, as we are currently trying to teach our guitarists to play. Also, pretty sure the keyboardist is trying to weasel their way into my position, but don't have any evidence.

Haven’t been on here for a while and I just saw this older topic. I have been curious about how many people identifying as transgender are, or have been musicians…I came across some on YouTube but I suspect there are many more who perform but don’t advertise they are transgender.

I played bass guitar in jazz and rock bands for many years and have also performed on piano, synthesizer, organ, guitar, drums, sitar and oboe and am working on a solo music project that eventually will be online, I hope. It’s been sidelined for a while due to health challenges and losses and while I work on developing my vocals, as I never was much of a singer in the past.

I enjoyed reading about the variety of instruments people here play and love the photos of those gorgeous vintage guitars and amps.

So, my girlfriend plays seven instruments and has a degree in music. I dance. I'm teaching her to dance. I sort-of play keyboard. I'm terrible at it though.

Hugs!

It's kinda weird how these people are so worked up over making these laws.  They would have no effect on cis people either way.  Yet they are the ones with the obsession.  They ought to just stay out of trans people's business.

Bean burritos are still popular in my family.   Black eyed peas are the one legume I'm not fond of.  I need to add lots of onions. And of course always cook your pintoes with fat-meat.  And for y'all yankees, navy beans with a big ol' ham bone are hard to beat.

Seek out community, not just online but in person if possible. Making trans friends is a pretty quick and easy way to gauge if you have much in common with them.

It certainly could be classed as dark humor.  Unfortunately the sentiments alone must hurt young trans folks.  Decency and reality doesn't seem to be in the GOP's vocabulary.   Hugs,   Charlize

Good morning all,    It’s a frosty morning here the lawn looks silvery, and the uncovered spring flowers have icy edges on their leaves. The only flower bed I covered was my tulips. As nice as it is here during the day, our clear wind free nights allow the temperatures to drop into the mid twenties. Here in our growing zone it’s recommended that you not plant delicate plants until Mother’s Day. Central Indiana can have snow as late as the third week of May. The birds are active at the feeders, I’ve had my cup of yoghurt and morning meds. So I’ll sit here, drink coffee and watch the as the sunrise chases the frost from the yard.    @awkward-yet-sweet I could eat black eyed peas as a side for every meal. Boil them plain or with fatback. Served as a leftover, just add in a little Rotel Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies.  Make the best of your day,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Had a weird dream last night.

Morning, y'all. Evening here; we had the regulation three mugs full today. Now it's time to drink something else.     No big plans here either, eldest daughter and granddaughter will be arriving on Saturday, and we will have our granddaughter to ourselves for a week after that. We still have plans though. Tuesday we'll go to the swim center, Wednesday we'll take a road trip to visit my mom, Thursday we'll get some mulch delivered to top up the gardens.   I still make other small plans on a daily basis though. The things I do plan nowadays, which is a bit new for me, is that after pinching a nerve and ending up in a bit of pain and getting some treatment from the physio, I am more motivated than ever to exercise more regularly. Tuesday for example, I went for a short (15 minute) early morning walk, went to the pool for some hydrotherapy, and mowed the lawns. Yesterday I did my exercise reps and spent some time on the exercise bike. Today, I went for a 45-minute walk, tomorrow I will do my reps again and go for a long bike ride. As long as I do at least one thing every day, right? The pleasing thing is that I'm losing weight! I blew out to above 95kg early in the year and I'm just under 91kg now. Yay me!

Positive side of the mixed bag.

Boredom is an emotional state that comes when a person has nothing to do, and is not interested in anything. To stop boredom, most people do something to occupy or amuse themselves. The first known use of the word boredom is in the novel Bleak House by Charles Dickens, written in 1852, but the saying to be a bore had been used to mean "to be tiresome or dull" since 1768. When referring to the mind, boredom is a bad state in which the person feels a deep lack of interest in what is going on around them, and where it is hard to focus.
