is there a simple rule of thumb or simplified bullet point checklist of WPATH requirements and general guidelines doctors use when you inquire about GRS (SRS)?

You will need to have been on HRT for one year and have lived in the desired role full-time for one year.  You will need letters from two different mental health professionals, basically certifying that you are in good mental health, and that you have gender dysphoria.

Some insurance companies and some doctors have additional requirements that do not come WPATH.  Here, the government insurance requires a letter from a medical specialist.  If one of the two WPATH letters is from a psychiatrist, that counts.  Otherwise, you need a third letter.  I have heard that some medical insurance in the US has similar requirements.  Most surgeons will require that you have some kind of support at home and/or to get home, since you will be somewhat incapacitated at first.

Kathy's response is complete.  Just remember that each doctor is independent and may have additional requirements. Most will involve health, like heart condition, weight, BMI and the like.

Those are what I've been told - and I have also been told - that the 1 year requirement is now just recommended and sadly I see Medicare in the U.S. most likely does not cover...

I do have a consult with a GRS surgeon this week and I wanted to be as prepared as possible.

Thank You,

is a legal name change required or optional?

Its not required but it helps to substantiate that you've lived in the desired roll.

You're moving real fast Shay!

Maybe it's moving fast for you.

May things happen in the perfect timing for you now.  Please share what you learn at your surgery consult next week.

I will do - I know it might seem fast but it took 68 years to get here and I know I will have many mountains to climb, roads that are blocked and struggles to endure but the quicker I have the facts and can develop to quickest way from here to there - the better I know I will feel - and will know what to do about it.

I agree with the aforementioned comments. My insurance company (Cigna) through my employer has very strong trans-inclusive policy; not for surgeries like FFS/BA. But cover everything else pretty well. They follow WPATH strictly. They don't deviate away and add any additional requirements. I did find out though they weigh their decisions heavily on Psychiatric/Mental Health counseling. I have been going to a Gender Therapist for a good while and they approve me very quickly since I am committed to following along with a counselor throughout this entire process.

Whatever your speed, may it be a comfort to you along your journey that you are finding yourself.

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
