Movies about trans issues but not really

There is a thread about songs that are not meant to be about trans issues but the lyrics could describe trans issues. I think it would be interesting to discuss movies like this.

Bicentennial Man (warning: spoilers) is about an android that transitions to become human. When the movie begins in 2005 he has a metallic appearance. In 2067 gets realistic looking skin and appears human. He ends up getting a digestive system to metabolize energy so he can eat like a human. I don't quite remember, but I think they modify his brain to be made of units that function like neurons. He falls in love with a human but the government will not recognize a marriage between a human and android. He petitions to be recognized as human but they argue because he is immortal he cannot be human. He later has his fluid replaced with something similar to blood that will degrade over time, making him mortal. He petitions again to be recognized as human, but was told that the issue is complex and controversial so it will take time to make a decision. On his deathbed, he is declared human and his marriage is legally recognized.

I just watched A Wrinkle In Time. I didn't feel like there was a lot of underlying transgender tones but the whole film has this accepting of the unknown kind of vibe and is all about a quest to make help the main character find peace within their own life. There was this feeling that what you see in the film was not always the way things truly were. I liked it.

I just saw a pretty cool movie that some people might like. It's on Netflix. It's called Enola Holmes. It is an interesting movie.

I don't remember the name of the movie but I remember it having a big impact on me when I was a child. I guess I would watch it now and I would cringe... a lot... but I would love someday to find the title.

 

I would love to see that if you ever come across the title. It sounds absolutely right up my alley: Boy becoming girl? Check. Cheesy 80's movie? Big check!!! I assume you're not thinking of "Weird Science"? That's a boy's science experiment creating a girl, but not really a boy becoming a girl.

 

Speaking of a cheesy choice...my idea of "movie about trans but not really"...I'm gonna do it...I gonna be the one to go out there and actually say "Frozen"

 

I'm not even much of a Disney fan usually (aside from Pooh!). And I have a total girl-crush on Ana ("Miss feisty-pants", hee hee!). But that...yes...I'm going to be the one to go ahead and say it...that moment with the first "let it go"...as in "Just be free and uninhibited to be your complete, true unrestrained self!!!" along with the difficulty in finding the freedom and safety to do just that, and the bliss when you're able to find a piece of it...

 

Well...THAT, as far as I'm concerned...is trans.
