How do I do a female voice?

Xyre

Recommended Posts

So, I recently told my family about how I feel about my gender, I've been struggling with this for a while now.

And I just wanna be able to do a female voice for when the day comes, I just wanna learn how to do it to get confidence in myself.

Can anyone teach me or give me tips how or where I can learn to do a proper female voice?

Thanks.

You are in the Forum where we have a number of posts on just that issue and I can't go much further than those topics do, other than to tell you to carefully listen to the difference between men's and women's speech patterns. The Netherlands have a good reputation for helping their Trans youth and your best bet there is to find a Trans Support organization that can refer you to a speech therapist or coach.  Welcome to the Forums.

Xyre, I have no idea if female speech patterns in Dutch have the same similarities as they do in English, but one thing I'm pretty sure about is that in both languages it is not all about pitch, or how high the voice is.  It involves the rhythm (cadence), the tone, the choice of words, and yes, the pitch.  I suggest going somewhere where you can really listen to how women and girls talk, and then try to copy it when you are alone.  Practice every chance you get, and try to get professional help if you need it, as Vicky suggested.  It is not easy, it may take months, but you can find that female voice.

My "do as I say and not as I do" tip is to be patient, everything about transition is long-haul.  I found voice therapy too stressful and gave up (impatience).  I'll probably get back to it when other transition things settle down.

Here is what I have learned. there is only one thing to remember. Practice, practice, practice. get yourself some form of a voice pitch analyzer to use to keep up with progress. It will allo0w you know if you are speaking female or male or somewhere in between. There are also videos on YouTube that will give you extra help in finding some extra info on practice. Basically, it is up to you to find what works for you.

I worked on my feminine voice for years before coming out to myself or anyone else or beginning transition.

What worked for me was to listen to feminine voices, mostly on the radio, and try to copy their sounds, like an impersonation.

As time passed, I tried adopting a "valley girl" accent.  This is a hyper feminine stereotype that I could use to practice feminity in my voice.

Once I had that down, I could tone down the exaggeration, and make it a more natural sound.  I think all of this helped me train my muscles to prepare me to go full time without hurting myself.

The one thing about this position, if you want more hours just wait and be flexible.  I’m now working until 7:30 pm instead of 4:30.

Welcome Mattie! I would recommend the first step is finding a gender therapist and see if you are or aren't. Then one of the biggest steps if you are do you want to start hormone replacement therapy. The decision should be thought long and hard. There are irreversible effects. Looking forward to your next post! Take care!

@Willow, it's great to hear about your wife's progress! It's also fun to hear about day-to-day stuff, like work. It's nice to think of this thread as a kind of morning chit chat place to go, like if we had a big table at The Daily Grind and were just listening and sharing over our morning brews.
