God Still Loves in the Gray

Hello everyone,

My name is Vaela (Vay-lah) Kay. My profile says Valorie but that name turned out to be a place holder haha

A couple months ago, after a lifetime of struggling, I decided to start down the road of transition. I haven't started HRT yet but I'm preparing for when I do at the start of March, fittingly on my 30th birthday.

The greatest struggle I've found in my life is reconciling my faith in Christ with my struggle, and now decision, to transition to the woman I've always more fundamentally been. I've looked high and low on the internet and found few sources that are about transgenderism and Christianity. As a Christian writer, I feel called to reach out to a community of people that are unfairly disqualified by most in the church. And so, I've started a blog called Finding Peace in the Gray: Reconciling My Faith in Christ While Preparing to Transition (MTF)

It's meant to be a real and raw source of encouragement for those on this same kind of journey.

I'm including the link in case anyone is interested in seeing more: https://transitioningandchristianity.blogspot.com/?m=1

Thanks everyone! And remember that you aren't alone in this.

Vaela Kay

Welcome to the Forums, I think if you read the earlier posts in this forum you will find a list of books and writings that others have found over the years.  If you have not read about them already, Paula Stone Williams (a Trans woman) and David Weekly (Trans man) who are Trans pastors and writers are some good people to find information about.  Publication is behind schedule due to the Pandemic but there is a book in the works on how the Bible was erroneously translated to condemn Gay and Lesbians individuals and through them, Trans people.  Its proposed title is Forging A Sacred Weapon by Kathy Baldock who is a champion of the LGBT community for many years.

Why don't you make a post in the Introductions Forum about yourself since it will introduce you to more members than really read this Forum.

Welcome Vaela, Nice to meet you. It’s a pleasure to have you join us. Reconciling my true gender identity with my Christian faith and belief system was one of my most difficult struggles in life too. When I was younger and just starting to understand more about who I was, there just weren’t the resources available as there are today. One of the books and authors that influenced me recently was Transforming by Austen Hartke. Also, thanks for your blog link, I’ll be sending it to a few of my friends who I think will enjoy your material based on my quick perusal of your post summaries. As Vicky mentioned, it would be nice to get a little back story on your life up to this point in an intro and maybe if you feel up to the task...share with us what was the pivotal turning point in your decision to finally decide on transition?

Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself with us this evening. I hope to read more in the future.

Warmest Regards,

Susan R🌷

HI Vaela,

I think you may already realize you are not alone here. Some of us have dealt with many of the thoughts I read in your blogs. What type of church to attend and does it teach sound doctrine? Do I try to educate the one I am currently attending? What does the bible really say? How will I be accepted by the people I care about around me? If you read the few threads I posted previous to yours in the Christianity forum you will see we have similar thoughts. I even put videos in a couple of them you might be interested in watching.

In addition, the blog with the third option of a switch to switch back and forth is something I have also thought about.

Hugs,

Mike

On another note, I found out today that I don't get put on the GCS list with my surgeon until my insurance approves the surgery. I really hope that it happens soon. Please wish me well 🥴

Nice. I love it. I've never seen this before.

It’s another slow day at work and I’m having trouble staying awake. I pray to the Goddess that this mug of unicorn blood will restore some vitality.

@Elizabeth Star in the state of Ohio it is or at least I don't want to go through process more than once of I can.

It was last on my list also, at least the gender change on SS card. I just got my name changed on SS card since it's a long process to get a birth cert. from Puerto Rico. It takes over a month. They sent back my application once already saying my money order was wrong amount, and also said I needed a lawyer to submit it, which is incorrect. I resubmitted about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting for response.

Yay! It's an awesome feeling. Congrats.

You have to change your birth certificate first?  That’s currently last on my list.    It’s always good whenever you can be yourself. A good haircut can doing amazing things for self affirmation and easing dysphoria. At least it did for me. I agree with what Jackie said about the comfort zone. You may learn something new about yourself.

@Mroz All the good advice and vibes above are spot on, and as you are probably finding out as a spouse / support person already, learning, listening, and empathy are all really important. When there is a new couple in my support group, I usually mention these things...   Everything about transitioning takes time for both partners, so do things in bite-sized portions and at a manageable pace. Make sure to give yourself mental breaks from transitioning too; don't let it become your whole world even though its a really big part of it now.   As a spouse / support partner, don't feel bad if some things just "don't sit right" anymore between you two. Some things can be accepted like getting used to snoring or conceding to the fact she spends way too much time gaming. Other things might take a little more creativity to overcome or are deal breakers. Just remember that neither of you are wrong, its just a question of compatibility. And believe it or not, we all change as we grow older, so compatibility questions will crop up eventually; you just hit the lottery this time!   Both of you should see a therapist, and I generally advise it being separate professionals. Your partner will be focusing on a lot of physical, social, and emotional issues of transitioning and will need a therapist well-versed in non-binary and gender-based topics. As a spouse / support partner, you will have a whole set of different issues usually starting with how to reconcile your own sense of self with a new reality you were not expecting, and how to do that while still being supportive of your partner.   Everything else is just going to happen for both of you, and no two transition stories are alike. Have a plan but don't over-plan, have goals but keep a flexible time table, and have some fun with it! For every "bad" story we all share about transitioning, there are at least two more good things that happen, so live for those moments! Good luck on your journey together!

@Elizabeth Star congrats. I'm still waiting for my new birth certificate to come so I can get my SS and Driver's licenses changed then tackle insurance, estate planning and credit cards..... Sadly no dress makes me look good yet - I'm still in the gas to the floor and clutch in - with family and wanting surgery.

@Maddee my mentor is my music producer who is currently suffering from a brain tumor. He was the only one who really encouraged me musically and although I had 2 brothers (they never supported me) he was my older brother in truth who advised me and looked out for me. He produced an album for me that almost got my band signed to Atlantic Records (dang band imploded) and then we went to Nashville where he and another friend who played in The Dillards recorded demoes and we just ran out of money. Over the years we co-ran Leon Russell's old studio in Tulsa called tThe Church, where Tom Petty first recorded with Mudcrutch and tRoger Linn created the Linn drum and all the Beatles as well as Bob Marley recorded.  Only his brain tumor he was stuill advising and encouraging me and using ProTools via DropBox to mix my songs. His name is Rod Seagram and if you look up The American Music Association - he was one of the founding board members.

After almost two months of silliness I finally got my new social security card. I just to ooo and ahhh at it all day. It also meant a trip to our main office so hr could see the physical card and get a copy for file. Just so happened I am also wearing my green, skull covered dress. I think I like that office a little better sometimes, I got 5 compliments on my dress.

Ronny.  He was like 30 years older.  Pro security contractor.  Marine. "Injustice collector".  Played semi pro football into his 40s  We rock n rolled together.  Hung out.  He took me to ball games.  Secured my gigs.  Lot of living advice.  We weren't a couple but it was something.  I knew he was gone before anyone told me. Everything went to hell without you. RIP
