Wig Wearing Tip

Sally Stone

Recommended Posts

Recently, I was helping a girlfriend with her new wig and she was wearing it in a way wasn't quite as flattering as it could be.  A common mistake, the same one she was making, is to wear a wig too low on the forehead.  This results in an unnatural hairline and it hides too much of the face.  It is much more flattering to wear a wig higher up on the forehead, making sure the front of the wig cap is even with the natural hairline.

To ensure I wear my wig so it looks best, I comb my natural hair back away from the forehead and then place the front edge of the wig exactly in line with my natural hairline.  This works effectively for a conventional wig or a lace-front wig.   It's important to remember that we don't want to hide the face, instead, we want to frame it.  Wearing a wig too low, unfortunately, makes a wig look fake and is a dead giveaway the hair is not our own.  It's a simple technique that significantly enhances the look of any wig style.

I agree in principle, but "natural hairline" is problematic for many of us late-transitioners.  I forget where mine used to be, and I sure don't want to use my current hairline! ?

I have a demonstration of this in my Gallery here @Sally Stone https://www.transgenderpulse.com/forums/gallery/album/1573-wigging-out/

In addition to this good advice, do not be afraid to take you wig into a stylist who can cut the bangs on the wig to your face.

Even for those whose hairlines are closer to the back of your head, the position above your eyes where my demo is should give you some idea of where the new wig should go.  In those cases, it is even more important to find a good stylist or local wig store.  The stores deal with Cancer victims and Alopecia patients who are also in need of hair placement advice.

Great advice, everyone.  I had good results with my first wig that has bangs.  My newest wig can be a little more problematic as to placement, and sometimes it won't stay where I put it.

Thank you for the great tips!  Being follicly challenged myself, this is great information.

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
