The Face in the Mirror

Looking into those dark brown eyes
No way that I recognize
What looks at me when I look back
A train switched to a diverging track 

I’m lost on land I’m far asea
Two pathways to a destiny
The only thing that’s reality
The reflection in the mirror isn’t me

 

Am I young or am I older
Sane, insane perhaps bipolar

Am I depressed or am I manic
Maybe only schizophrenic

I tell myself and answer back 
Arguing both sides of the fact
That I can’t be both me and me

Perception is as strong as truth

 

I stare and see a face abused
It’s scary to be so confused
The only thing that’s reality 
The face in the mirror isn’t me

 

The telescope don’t bring it nearer
The microscope don’t make it clearer
I am therefore I think that I should be
An enigma, a psychotic mystery
Once the fog is clear I see 
The face in the mirror isn’t me

Beautifully written Margo! The mirror, a divisive thing at times; it gives us a glimpse of what others see when they look at us. For me as in your poem it doesn't always show who I am inside, my heart & soul.
