So before I realised my last post had disappeared I was about to post what I have been up to with the Hoffy.

I started shaping the top body and once I'd done that i laid on the first coat of primer.

And now an admission.

I stuffed up.

Yep the binding turned out rubbish. Well it was the first time i'd tried it and it came out terrible, all thin and wonky. So to fix it i'm just going to pain over it, problem solved. It will give a nice sharp solid edge to the mdf at least.

Let's hope this post doesn't disappear.

And another problem rears it's head.

Sanding back the primer by hand is more than tedious its really bad.

Ebay to the rescue. I have ordered a 2" air sander to give this old girls hands a break.

Oh I forgot to mention the neck for the Fender bass build has arrived 😜

Yes, hand sanding something of that size is tedious.

Hello out in TP land. Christmas holidays have started over here so after all the family get togethers hopefully i can do some guitar stuffs.

Now somewhere up the page I posted a picture of a Fender bass body I was going to put all the gear I got for the Hoffy that didn't fit or wasn't right so below you will see it all laid out.

And guess what the neck I got is wrong, so rather than waiting another 3 months for another neck I'm going to make another body. Why isn't that a surprise, well just look how the Hoffy changed 🤪

Hope you all enjoy the up coming festive season.

Hello Robin down under!   Making a new body, that's ingenuity.  I've never been a fan of the Fender Bass body.  I like serious horns on a Bass.  I see you've taken the liberty to open up the body so you can reach the 24th fret.  Not much call for that on a Bass but if you need it, it's there.  Cool!

Happy Holidays Robin!!

Yes 🤣😂

A bass player friend said 24 frets ??? In that tone that actual musicians use for the rest of us ... hee hee

I'm keeping it just to play with their head ... :D

Ho ho ho my last post before Christmas.

I managed to carve the rear of the body, sand and primer. So I present the colour coats and a picture of how I created the sunburst (much thanks to the people on Youtube for the idea).

My partner and I wish you all a Merry Christmas since we will get to the 25th before my American friends ❤️

Merry Christmas to you and your family Robyn!

I like how you created the burst. Nice job.

On another subject, what is the rear axle, without diff, on the floor?  I see you've got a number of automotive decals on your tool box too.

Jani it is from a Mitsubishi L300 that I was going to use for my Locost project which in all likelihood after 12 years I'd never going to be finished.

Ah, my toolbox. Many stories there. I keep forgetting to check the background when taking photos in the shed. I used to be a lot more involved in car and motorcycle stuff when I was younger. How life changes, in more ways than just our hobbies 😊  ... it was partly why Jackie Rabbit so resonated with me.

Haven't we all?

Had a racing buddy who had a Caterham.  I liked driving it but could never live with one.  I used to race and finally sold my car and all my spares a year ago.  It was hard but alas I wasn't going to get back to the track.  I sold most of my cars and all my motorcycles.  I'm buying guitars now as they don't take much space!  Ha!

I certainly get the feeling there are a lot of us on here who have quite an interest in cars and bikes. My family were so worried when I started transition that I wouldn't be into all the stuff that they felt was me. Now they know me hasn't changed just the wrapper fits me better now.

My sisters comment says it all, "that's the first time I've seen you happy at Christmas dinner".

Here is my probably my last post before 2022.

The picture shows the back of the Hoffy after I did a bit of sanding and the the first coats of clear. There will be a final sand and the last clear coats.

Sooo ... I made it out of MDF and primed it with a primer/undercoat that I brushed on. I didn't think much about it.

Then I did my interpretation of sunburst. After it had dried i sanded back some the red and black over spray on the yellow and to my surprise it looked like it was sort of wood grain, and some bad grinder gouges. I had got so fed up of sanding the thing at this point I didn't care what marks I left in it. Adds to the character now.

And even better the clear coats brought out the fake grain even more. Happy girl dancing.

Since are now having our proper summer (32-35 degree C) here I can let it sit for a week and then start on the front.

Happy New Year and its 2022 project update.

As we have had a fair bit of hot weather things have taken a backseat over Christmas as the garage can get quite ... personal. One thing I have noticed since starting HRT is the sweat pattern. My sweat doesn't smell icky and full body sweat and not localised like it used to be. Or maybe I'm more sensitive to it now.

Now the fun bit, I have been working on the front and as you can see below the overlay I am trying to apply. As I write this I have a day to wait before I can find out if it has worked.

Oh and I've started some supporting projects to compliment the Wonky Bass :D

Hello, I did say it would take a while to paint and finish this guitar.

This is about the 3rd clear coat. Still a long way to go to get it as smooth as i would like.

Progress is about learning. The reds washed out with transfer method so I'm living with the even more vintage aged look than I was going for as I will not be redoing it.

Since I have had a fair bit of time between paint coats drying I have looked into building a tube amplifier. No seriously I have. I have even started buying the parts and designing a circuit board for the power supply section instead of the solder it all together in one lump.

Plus I have also started building a nice Marshall 4x10 speaker cabinet replica. I know, I know ... too many projects.

I like that finish also.  I never would have thought about something like that.  Cool.  Your cabinetry is impressive.

Thank you. Sadly all this this project stuff is a symptom of my transition.

It is my subconscious trying to say that i won't be able to do this stuff after or during the more intense parts of transition, and i need to do as much as possible now.

At the moment i'm trying to get my head around that information.

Hopefully I can sort my head out and transition and still do this sort of fun stuff afterwards.

Robin don't believe that for a moment.  I thought like that years ago but I found the things I love have stayed with me.  There are lots of women who are carpenters, mechanics, builders or farmers.  Embrace this part of you.  It's what makes you special and unique!

Robin i believe Jani is spot on.  This old gal still loves to farm, build, weld and do "man's work"

Early in transition i felt i had to be more "feminine" as society defines that reality.  Not me...and not a great many cis women.

Hugs,

As has been said many times, this is not a black and white issue. Sure.  I get it that a MtF person that has gone through full male puberty and "transitioned" 6 months ago probably has an advantage in some sports.  But these bans affect elementary school kids too. I mean, banning trans women from Darts?  Chess?

Good morning    Now @Abigail Genevieve and @Mmindy what makes you so certain I didn’t mean it to say bee itch certificate?  lol. Thanks Mindy. I was asleep when you saw this and fixed it, and yes Abigail, as a moderator I could have fixed it myself, or weren’t you pointing out the irony of that?   I use Alexis as my alarm to get up.  And I set the ringer to be two guys telling me to get up.  I was so sound asleep when they started telling me to get up that it scared me and my first thought were I had over slept.  Since I have a difficult time getting to sleep as early as I have to in order to get enough sleep I at least cut back my normal awake time to get ready.  But now I have to do my hair and get going.   enjoyed my coffee and a little time catching up   see you all later, for its hi ho hi ho it’s off to work I go.   Willow

Republicans have long committed grave errors by emphasizing their social agenda and moral issues instead of just focusing on the economy, lowering taxes, keeping the public safe, building a strong national defense, promoting business, touting reasonable immigration policies, etc.   The country would thrive economically under Trump's tax and business policies. That's a fact. Another four years of Biden will run this country into the ground financially (including all of our 401Ks and IRAs). But the GOP continues to play right into the Dems' hands by leading with their moral crusades instead of staying the course and trusting their fiscal policies to win the day...

LGBTQ rights Project 2025 takes extreme positions against LGBTQ rights, seeking to eliminate federal protections for queer people and pursue research into conversion therapies in order to encourage gender and sexuality conformity. The policy book also lays out plans to criminalize being transgender and prohibit federal programs from supporting queer people through various policies. The project partnered with anti-LGBTQ groups the Family Policy Alliance, the Center for Family and Human Rights, and the Family Research Council. Project 2025 calls for the next secretary of Health and Human Services to “immediately put an end to the department’s foray into woke transgender activism,” which includes removing terms related to gender and sexual identity from “every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists.” The Trump administration proposed a similar idea in 2018 that would have resulted in trans people losing protections under anti-discrimination laws. [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023; The New Republic, 2/8/24] Similarly, the policy book calls for HHS to stop all research related to gender identity unless the purpose is conformity to one's sex assigned at birth. The New Republic explains: “That is, research on gender-nonconforming children and teenagers should be funded by the government, but only for the purpose of studying what will make them conform, such as denying them gender-affirming care and instead trying to change their identities through ‘counseling,’ which is a form of conversion therapy.” [The New Republic, 2/8/24] The policy book’s foreword by Kevin Roberts describes “the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children” as “pornography” that “should be outlawed,” adding, “The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned.” Roberts also says that “educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shuttered.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023] Roberts’ foreword states that “allowing parents or physicians to ‘reassign’ the sex of a minor is child abuse and must end.” Echoing ongoing right-wing attacks on trans athletes, Roberts also claims, “Bureaucrats at the Department of Justice force school districts to undermine girls’ sports and parents’ rights to satisfy transgender extremists.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023; TIME magazine, 5/16/22] Dame Magazine reports that Project 2025 plans to use the Department of Justice to crack down on states that “do not charge LGBTQ people and their allies with crimes under the pretense that they are breaking federal and state laws against exposing minors to pornography.” [Dame Magazine, 8/14/23] Project 2025 also calls for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to repeat “its 2016 decision that CMS could not issue a National Coverage Determination (NCD) regarding ‘gender reassignment surgery’ for Medicare beneficiaries.” The policy book’s HHS chapter continues: “In doing so, CMS should acknowledge the growing body of evidence that such interventions are dangerous and acknowledge that there is insufficient scientific evidence to support such coverage in state plans.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023] Going further, Project 2025 also demands that the next GOP administration “reverse policies that allow transgender individuals to serve in the military.” The policy book’s chapter on the Defense Department claims: “Gender dysphoria is incompatible with the demands of military service, and the use of public monies for transgender surgeries … for servicemembers should be ended.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023]   …summaries of what’s within the rest of the document re: LGBTQ+ concerns. A person can believe their gender is fixed but incongruent with their physiology, but the authors and Trump (by his own words) just see the incongruity of an “expressed gender” that conflicts with what was/is in a person’s pants.
