My mind blown: Identity: a Trans Coming Out Story'

I just came across this and watched it just now, and it absolutely blew my mind. In ways I don't even know how to describe right now. All I can say is that 1. I wish I could have watched this video years...decades ago, and 2. This is by far the best introduction to the concept of transgender I've ever come across for both eggs and potential allies alike (and I've gone through so many books I've been so disappointed with), and 3. I'd already thought I'd finally worked through the bulk of my self-doubt, but this just dropped a giant delivery of validation I didn't even think possible right in my lap. It's just that well-articulated.

 

I figured it must have been posted here before, but all I could find was a thread linking to a reaction video of this video, and not really this actual video itself. So I'm posting it because this seriously needs to be spread across the majority portion of the world that, like me, don't live as an up-to-the-minute encyclopedia of social media happenings.

I'd personally consider this "Trans 101", required introductory material. ?️‍⚧️

I agree. Abigail is a force to be reckoned with, a very bright intellect, and as you say, very articulate. She has accelerated my trajectory with the confidence she infuses in the listener.

Yes! And I'm even temped to say...no...convinced...she's successfully rewritten and updated the only basic trans narritives I ever knew - the ones that already made me respect and begin to understand trans people, but were also what I figured out made it difficult for me to recognize my own transness in the first place.

 

IMO, she's succeeded at writing the "definitive trans narrative v2.0"

Incredible! Every video of Abigail’s that I’ve watched has been invaluable. Like all her others, this one does not disappoint. She has a remarkable way of explaining things in a way I can relate to easily. I have a shortlist of people I plan to share this with but worry that it might be too deep for them to get the point. Still, I have to try.

She is into philosophy which she claims is the engine of change for the world order. You disparage philosophy majors at your peril! You’re right, it is pretty deep. But she does the best job I have ever seen of making an arcane subject accessible to simple minds like mine!

I just watched this recently, but as a student of philosophy (minored back in college long ago), I really enjoy this show, too!  Everyone should watch her "Little Public Statement," if you haven't already. No doubt, everyone on this thread watched it long ago. Thanks for introducing this, Heather! Abigail is awesome!

It's so easy to picture myself telling the same story in my own words (they wouldn't be anywhere near as good as hers though).  Her "the old job was hard, but this one, I was made for it" describes my situation perfectly - being a woman has been so easy for me, I'm a natural.
