Questioning and Some Doubts

Sol

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm Sol. This is my first time on a forum and I've got a lot on my mind so I'm sorry if this is long.

I'm AFAB, but I don't feel like a girl at all. In fact, someone calling me a girl makes me really REALLY uncomfortable. A lot of this stuff is pretty recent, and I've only just started applying what I know about being transgender or nonbinary or gender in general to myself and how I feel. I don't feel like a girl, but I'm not sure if I want to be a boy. It's definitely closer to what I want, but I don't know if that's IT for me. Sometimes I want my chest to be flat and I hate my periods because they feel wrong but I don't know if it's dysphoria or just not liking those things. I don't have any bottom dysphoria and I don't think I've felt like I'm in the wrong skin. I feel too big for my body sometimes, but that's usually on bad period days.

My mom called me "son" once and I got this happy jolt, and I don't know, something about it felt right, and I've recently gotten the impulse to correct people when they call me "she" or "her." There's this nagging feeling when it happens like "That's not right," and I don't know. I like wearing dresses and I like pink but does that mean that I'm not a girl? I don't know, I just really don't want to lead everyone on or feel like I'm overcompensating for something because I know that can really negatively affect the community.

Any thoughts or something I should do? This is really new to me and I'm kinda overwhelmed.

Hello Sol,

Questioning is absolutely fine. There is a workbook you might get to help you better understand you and how gender applies to you. It's called You and Your Gender Identity by Dara Huffman-Fox. It's about $15 on Amazon. Dara does an excellent job of asking the right questions in your life to help guide you. A trusted counselor, perhaps at school might also be very helpful.

Welcome to Trans Pulse, Sol.  Yes, figuring out your gender can get complicated and confusing.  Many folks think we all know exactly who we are or who we want to be early on in life, but it doesn't always work that way.  Many of us didn't figure it out until much later, when it finally dawned on us why we've always been unhappy or ill at ease.  That seems to be your case right now.

I'd suggest reading a lot of posts in this and other forums and see what others have said or what questions the posts raise in your mind.  Like Heather mentioned, there is a lot of good stuff online about gender.  One thing to keep in mind is that there are many variations on gender.  If you're AFAB, you can be trans or bi-gender or questioning even if you aren't interested in surgical "fixes" or hormones.  Being something in-between is perfectly OK.  Many folks feel on way on certain days, and another way on other days.

You also may wish to consider seeing a gender therapist, who ought to be well versed on all aspects of gender and can guide your thinking.  They won't tell you what to do or what choices to make, but they can help you figure it out for yourself and give you options and strategies for reaching whatever your goals turn out to be.

HUGS

Mindy, that would be so awesome of you.  Please make the edit for me, and thank you so much!

      M.   The term bigender works for me because after taking the time to explore my feelings, I kept coming to the same conclusion, that while I felt an overpowering need to express my inner woman, I also enjoyed being a man.  I realized that my personality was equal parts man and woman and to be happy and fulfilled, I needed to express both sides.  There are challenges living a life of two-gender expression, but I'll expand on some of those in future posts.     Hugs,   Sally

Sally, a moderator can edit the post adding "Post 3" if you would like. Let me know and I'll be glad to take care of it. That way your numbering system is in tact.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I thought Hey, I can't be experiencing Gender destroyer because it doesn't fit the narrative, but Hey I can. I am experiencing mild discomfort in relation to my gender. Because and that can be a form of mild form of it this forum because their elements of my gender that are out of alignment with my sign gender at birth. There are elements of my gender I have been holding back on some I did not even know for fear it did not fit was told was not very manly or in some other way not correct for someone who is an amab. I tried embracing and expressing some of these parts of me even for just a little bit every once in a while and it feels like a relief to me like a weight has been lifted.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums @violet r   I think we all were scared with our first post here on TPF. I hope you come to find this site as welcoming as an old friend. Not knowing the type of retail you're in, it is hard to know how they will react to your coming out. I would hope that if it's part of a larger corporation they may have corporate policies supporting/protecting you once you decide to come out publicly. No one here will rush you, or try to slow you down, once you've decided to come out. Some of us are secret sisters, and others of us are as flamboyant as they come. The cool this is you get to choose. You be you.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome aboard, Violet. What a pretty name!   You are among friends here. We are all on a journey, with things in common despite our individual uniqueness. I hope that makes sense!

Welcome Violet.  It's been awhile since i found this space with so many who understand the struggle to simply be ourselves in a society that often disapproves,  It isn't an easy path but being together we can share all the bumps and the joys. You are not alone.   Hugs,   Charlize

I'm sorry it didn't work out for the new job. Nothing to keep you from being on the search. I had a coworker who used to walk out of the locker room saying; "I was looking for a job with I found this one and I'll keep searching for the next one. Never let them think you're comfortable and settled."   The coffee has just finished brewing, and we have a HVAC technician coming in about 30 minutes to do an annual system check.   It's time to get out of my Pj's.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
