USA Swimming Official Quits Over Trans Swimmer Thomas

I’m an amateur athlete that competes with women in my age group. They are outstanding athletes that are capable of competing against men. These anti-trans morons argument strike me as misogynistic because they ignore the hard work and extreme capability of these cis athletes. They make it seem as though and male athlete can transition to female and dominate there chosen sport. Not true. You still have to work your ass off to be able to compete because the competition is that good. Trans athletes do have some advantages but are they really any greater than raw ability, good genetics, determination and hard work?

I would be upset if i had trained hard for years as a cis woman and then had to compete against a swimmer who had recently transitioned.  I has taken years for HRT to truly weaken me and i'm not training.  If she had transitioned as a child there could certainly be no legit reason for protest but i admit to having mixed feelings in cases like this.

The research says it takes 1-2 years on HRT, which I totally believe, for a person AMAB to fall into the same ability range as a cis-female. I firmly believe that any trans person should be able to compete with the rest of their gender outside that two-year window. Otherwise it's not really fair. I've seen the difference training makes with and without testosterone close-up and there's quite the gap. T makes muscular hypertrophy come much more quickly and easily.

Hugs!

To tell the truth, I'm kinda with Charlize on this.  It is complicated.

Just speaking for myself, when I decided to transition, I had to accept that I was giving up some things to gain something else.

Excluding grade school transkids makes no sense.  But I can see why this could be controversial at college level if someone had gone through full male puberty.

If only she was laid off instead of voluntarily quitting. That would have sent a positive message.

She had no business being in that position if she couldn't support transgender people. Your mind goes to the fact that when transgender people are excluded from sports, it has to be because cis people are 'keeping watch' on us and that's a creepy thought, like they belong to a Trans Watch hate group or smth. I don't want to think that somebody's eye is on me at all times and that's why I want trans people to be able to participate in sports to whatever degree we can.

I share this POV, and know from friends who were competitive athletes that women are not always given the encouragement  and support to reach their maximum capabilities in their sports.  One of them is now a retired  Physical Education professor who had seen that problem in their teaching years and took more than a little flack from trying to point it out.

Unfortunately this seems to be the reality.  Sheesh.

I thought I read somewhere that before transitioning she was a pretty good swimmer against her assigned at birth gender. If the only way trans women can participate in sports is to promise to not be too good then we're saying that trans women can't do sports.

She's been on hormones for two and a half years? That's two and a half times as long as the NCAA requires for her to participate in women's sports.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve received nothing but love and support in my sport. My experience has only increased my faith in people and my respect for women athletes.

I would see that having a "male" competing would make woman work that much harder to win against her. I believe they should let transgender athletes compete.

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
