it's a real race to the bottom in the Republican Party these days.  Who can be more anti-trans?  Sometimes I feel like I have a bullseye on my shirt.

It's a benefit of gas prices being so high to have a reason NOT to travel to some of the states where they have a majority in their legislatures.

We have unfortunately been an easy target for the far right for years.  At least now we are visible which may infuriate some but hopefully will give comfort to those who are finding themselves.

I am so weary of these attacks. If they are supposedly Christian they would understand WWJD and practice it. Obviously they are modern day Pharisees.

It is very discouraging.  I have seen GOP politicians calling for us to be beaten, and even executed - in so many words.  And these are people already in office.

 

I just want to mind my own business and go about my little life each day.

 

I live openly as who I am, but I'm not optimistic about the future.

 

When times get hard, the politicians look for somebody else to blame things on.  And the fact is that most people don't really understand us - probably can't.  So……

 

And it can feel affirming in a twisted way to be able to punch down on someone.

 

It's probably just paranoia, but I half expect for someone at some point to kill me for "God," or "to save western culture", or something like that.  But I'm hard headed enough that I'm not going back to the former me.  That guy is history.  I do feel for the young people though.

 

But hey, what do I know?  Meh… I'm just the crazy local trans lady.

I am at a loss for what to say.  I don't want to get political here, but the solution is to get political.  And angry.  Someone needs to be fighting back in a way that causes real and significant political and economic damage to the instigators of this crap.

 

American politics shouldn't be any of my business as a foreigner.  Except that this stuff is being imported into Canada.  Our main opposition party is mostly trumpist in flavour.  They are just itching to get into power so that they can try the same stuff here.  If it can be snuffed out at the source, maybe our copycats will see it for the political liability it should be.

Unfortunately it's not just an "American" thing.  It is even going on in the UK, and some EU countries.

Saw this on Twitter. You can pretty much dissect the standard playbook here, but I think it's important to keep up with the rhetoric anyway. 

 

Of course, the first is referencing the cis fear that trans (and gay) people are taking over. We don't have the same values, etc., society in chaos, etc. 

About halfway through, he touches on and suggests class struggle, that transing is mostly privileged atheist elite leftists, not "regular people", and feeding the "conspiracy" (Nazis and recently Adam Jones claiming males and the white race is being destroyed). 

If you know all the intersections of the various anti trans voices this piece could appeal to, then understand this stuff is being normalized through "comedy performance", it leaves the possibility for violence against us socially acceptable.

Most of these jokes are just juvenile and in bad taste and continues to feed on the average person's ignorance. Token trans psychiatrist who merely makes a suggestion she believes affirming care is "gone too far", because of the internet influencing through peer pressure to trans.... then the solution is BETTER YOUTH TRANS CARE, duh. Like why are there "less" trans people in Ohio? ha ha, right.

Well, I keep thinking about a nose ring - and I'm in my 70's.  Oh well.

It's easy to ridicule someone without ever actually addressing the issues.

 

Seriously, beginning any kind of medical transition should not be done lightly.  But that hardly means it should be outlawed across the board.
