I surely hope Lambda Legal is successful in fighting this.  It's all just junk science driven by political ideology.  Low income Floridian trans folk are going to be in a world of hurt.

I'm glad Lambda Legal is dealing with this.  Florida is leading the rush to the right and the hate it must show to gather support.

Unfortunately, while we wait for one of the support organizations to take action, there will be some trans folks who will feel hopelessness, and then do something rash. On that, I hope I am wrong. I have friends who have trans children that are currently in therapy in red states where legislation like this is a possibility. Without the funding support, they are screwed. I am still stunned that people who follow these hollow edicts from the Republican Nazi Party make no decisions on their own. Republicans say it is so, Fox News says it is so, and they use the Bible as the only book of knowledge. It scares me as to how totalitarian this country could go. The unfortunate part is that the RNP knows this is a wedge issue for their block of solid supporters, and any support by the Democrats will be used against the Democrats in the election. The support would feel good, but at what cost? Bill Maher made this point months ago when the Democrats offered more public support. I am still not sure Maher is any better than Trump when it comes to LGBTQIA+ issues.

 

Unfortunately, there are many people who have relied on Medicaid that will now face an uncertain future. Even if organizations like Lambda Legal win, what happens if the decision gets kicked up to the Republican majority Supreme Court? It still mystifies me that of all of the problems in our country, you would think there are no other priorities.

 

As an aside, Lambda Legal won the case in North Carolina regarding the ability to change our birth certificate gender. As someone born in NC, I started the process. In a mere 8-11 months, they may change my birth certificate. Boy, the Department of Vital Records really jumped on that ruling to help out...I just wonder which will come first: The appeal by the RNP or the updated birth certificate.

I suspect that the dragging of the feet is intentional.  As you point out, the SCOTUS will likely follow the hardliners.

Actually, there is a sense of relief in knowing what's coming.

It's a bit like when you finally decide to go full time even though you realize there could be trouble.

I'm not going to hide who I am.  I'll do what I can to continue to grow as Jandi.

But I realize I am in a privileged place.  I'm retired, and don't have to rely on a job.  And I do have some support from my adult children.  I do fear for those without these things.

 

It's kinda weird to find oneself "circling the wagons" as it were, and preparing for the worst.
