MTF Surgery with Kathy Rumer - What to expect

Yuuki

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

I have my surgery scheduled for next month with Kathy Rumer at Taylor Hospital in PA. While I can ask questions and get answers from my coordinator, the answers I receive are really high-level and are from the perspective of a health care provider. What I would like is for anyone who has had vaginoplasty, specifically with Kathry Rumer in the past few years to give a run-down on everything I can expect on the day of the surgery, from the moment I arrive at the hospital until the moment I am placed under anesthesia.

Thank you! ❤️

Oh hi! I had my vaginoplasty with Doctor Rumer on Febuary 4th of 2020.

Pretty easy honestly. You check in at the front desk, There will be paperwork. There might be a waiting room, there might not (she's changed hospitals since then, but I went back for a revision last year the procedure didn't change much). They take you back to pre-op. You strip and climb into a hospital gown. They hook you up with your ports.

When it's your turn, you get wheeled into the operating room and they put you on the surgical table. The anestheseologist hits you with their chemical cocktail and...

You wake up with a vagina.

Say "Hi" for me. They might remember Robyn.

Hugs!

Different doctor, different hospital, but pretty much the same procedure.

I arrived at the hospital at 05:30 am to check in.  Admin check-in at the front desk.  Then walked to the ward, where I got a medical check-in with a nurse.  Signed paperwork.  Shown to my room, told to strip and get into gown, then wait.  Brief visit from surgeon.  I was shown to the surgical waiting room.  Waited a few minutes.  Then taken into the operating room.  I climbed onto the table, lay down, and had an IV hooked up.  The anesthetist was telling me what she was doing.  Last thing I remember was looking up at the light.

Then I heard a voice telling me that the operation was successful.  Felt myself being wheeled onto an elevator.  Back to my room for recovery.

Thank you both ❤️

Will there be any blood testing I should be aware of prior to the surgery? Or will they be relying solely on what I provide them here in 2 weeks or so?

Thank you again ❤️

There is going to be frequent blood testing throughout the surgery and healing processes, it will be just a fact of your life for several months.  I was not with Rumer, but every day in the hospital you will get them for something, usually for some hints of infection or other healing issues.

I'm just wondering if they will be checking hormone levels and such prior to surgery. I had higher than usual estrogen levels long before I transitioned so I'm worried they may test those and be concerned I didn't stop, and refuse surgery.

If that was the case, it is history and and what you need to do is give the surgeon permission to access that history from your PCP medical team.  Call them and give them that permission if you have not.  Cross Gender Hormone levels do have a relation to BLOOD CLOTTING which is why they are checked due to how the body gets them.Oral hormones do give your liver a small added problem that can affect the clotting mechanisms. There is blood and bleeding during the surgery and normal clotting is desired, but too rapid or too slow is what is at stake.  In your case the level is not related to the prescribed hormones.  If your levels were historically elevated they will look for another blood factor to be sure you are safe.  My surgeon lowered my E levels, but except for the day of the surgery (nothing by mouth) did not take me off of them and I think Rumer knows that pretty well.

Amazingly I have found many cis women are absolutely wrong in their assumptions about bra fittings. I knew an elderly lady that said, "I have been a C cup since school, I just buy a bigger band size as my breasts grow." This is completely WRONG as the band should always fit snug with they gore firmly against the chest.    One of CNA's came into Torrid and I helped her pick out a new bra. She didn't even understand band size was inches and cups/band combo were based off Victorian shirt sizes.  She said, "how do you know so much?"   We found her proper fitting band size, then found a cup she fit.    How can people that take the vast majority of bra users know so little about them? Seems most cis women just use "try it on" only.

As has been said many times, this is not a black and white issue. Sure.  I get it that a MtF person that has gone through full male puberty and "transitioned" 6 months ago probably has an advantage in some sports.  But these bans affect elementary school kids too. I mean, banning trans women from Darts?  Chess?

Good morning    Now @Abigail Genevieve and @Mmindy what makes you so certain I didn’t mean it to say bee itch certificate?  lol. Thanks Mindy. I was asleep when you saw this and fixed it, and yes Abigail, as a moderator I could have fixed it myself, or weren’t you pointing out the irony of that?   I use Alexis as my alarm to get up.  And I set the ringer to be two guys telling me to get up.  I was so sound asleep when they started telling me to get up that it scared me and my first thought were I had over slept.  Since I have a difficult time getting to sleep as early as I have to in order to get enough sleep I at least cut back my normal awake time to get ready.  But now I have to do my hair and get going.   enjoyed my coffee and a little time catching up   see you all later, for its hi ho hi ho it’s off to work I go.   Willow

Republicans have long committed grave errors by emphasizing their social agenda and moral issues instead of just focusing on the economy, lowering taxes, keeping the public safe, building a strong national defense, promoting business, touting reasonable immigration policies, etc.   The country would thrive economically under Trump's tax and business policies. That's a fact. Another four years of Biden will run this country into the ground financially (including all of our 401Ks and IRAs). But the GOP continues to play right into the Dems' hands by leading with their moral crusades instead of staying the course and trusting their fiscal policies to win the day...

Thanks.  I will look those up in the document, hopefully tomorrow.   I always look at the source on stuff like this, not what someone, particularly those adversarial, have to say.
