A petition drive in Canada… to "extend the right of asylum" to transgender people…

Thank you for posting that, @Ivy.  I just signed.  The situation in the US is becoming dire. so this has been on my mind for a while.  We have unofficially welcomed asylum seekers from "western democracies that have historically been considered safe" in the past, so there is no reason not to make it official for transgender people now.

Interesting.  Didn't know asylum was a "right" up there.  Those who would like to should take advantage of the opportunity.

Various places in the US are becoming refuges from different types of official persecution. I'm hoping to see that kind of freedom extended to LGBTQ+ folks who just want to live quietly away from the crazy politics.

It isn't until it is granted, especially for people coming from democratic countries generally regarded as safe.  What the petition is asking for is recognition that, for some people, the US should no longer be regarded as safe.  It's a tough sell, and will likely never be enacted as legislation.  But we have to try.

There are some states that give us, LGBTQ protection. I don't know if something federal would change that. It hasn't with the green laws that have popped up lately.

My understanding is that federal law trumps state law.

Depends on how willing each party is to engage in enforcement if there is a disagreement. I suspect that a lot of it will be dealt with at the local level, rather than state or federal.

I thought that too but what about the federal law against marijuana, yet all these states where it is legal?

My understanding is that it is occasionally enforced, but mostly not.  I guess just as a reminder that it exists.   Considering how widespread weed is, it's a bit like prohibition was.

Thanks Canada, I think... not sure cuz it's a petition. Hope it works out, but not holding my breath. If Canada went "yes" without the petition, then I'd might be a bit more hopeful.

Feels like it's another trap, cuz there's no solid evidence my situation will improve moving there. Still have to get there and hope the people will be civil. Feels it's just going to be another marketing ploy, cuz the money must flow, like the Great American Dream...limited with no guarantees and no refunds.

I have 0 rainbows, just Jupiter levels of storm clouds. Deleted so much cuz I'm trying not to go further off topic and there's too much... it's all too much.

Federal and state laws are just guidelines subject to change and aren't stone, all are enforced case by case and only if there's money. 🤷🤦So depressed.

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

Good morning everyone,   It’s Thursday well as least I took my Thursday Medications as sorted out in my weekly dispensary caddy. Today’s coffee is Folgers Breakfast Blend served HOT, black and strong. My wife and I are going to explore the Western and Southern coasts of Saginaw Bay and hang out in Bay City, MI. today.    @Willowonce @Abigail Genevievepointed out the word usage in your post. I read it and laughed, enjoying the snarky tone of the comment. Since it was spelled correctly I thought maybe you meant for it to read just as you typed it. Then the kinder gentler me thought it would be better if I changed it. I’m not saying I corrected it, I just changed the severity of the sentence.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
