When to come out to new employer?

As some may have read on my Good Morning thread. I have been having problems at my place of employment. Long story short.

 

 

When is the best time to tell a perspective employer that you are Transgender? During the interview, after a job offer?, first day on the job?

Hmm.  Why do they need to know?

 

I would say prior to transitioning on the job.  Prior to checking with HR for medical coverage for trans surgery or to find out what their bathroom policy is.  Other than that, it should be none of their darned business.

I went through this and the good advice I got was it was not relevant, not for getting in the door. It seemed like I was being inauthentic, but a good employer hires based on qualifications. Personality may factor in, too, later. But the further I have gone being trans is a just one aspect of who I am.

I suppose it may help if you can imagine someone bringing up they were born intersex at a job interview, to illustrate the point.

With not having an official name change. I want to be addressed by my preferred name.  Restrooms would be the other question. However, in the eyes of the state of Wyoming, I am female. (that F on my license is not a failing grade)  The position is service manager at a dealership. So, wearing a dress to work wouldn't be in the dress code.
