Is there any alternative to wigs for baldies?

The hair transplant doc said I lost too much hair to restore a female hairline.  Has anyone come up with a solution other than wearing a conventional wig?  In transition I do not think I want to see the chrome dome when removing a wig at night.

It is going to depend on exactly where you have your remaining hair as to what you could do.  

 

My hair on top had been pretty thin when I began and I had some less than full wig hair pieces that I used. there are some pictures I put in my gallery of how I started out.

This might not be any help for you.

 I finally broke down and got a wig.  I don't wear it all the time.  Most of the time (even at home) I do wear a head covering of some kind though, usually a kerchief or beanie kind of thing.  My natural hair (around the sides and back) is shoulder+ plus length so it hangs down around it.  

Yeah, I avoid looking at myself without something on.  But I sleep with my eyes closed anyway.

Oh, I'm 57 and began losing my hair while still at school, so I've had plenty of time to get used to it. I have always kept my hair very short, so wearing a wig is a really pleasant change - to have a fringe, wow! Wigs are cheap and easy to experiment with so just think of it as fun. I've had some good responses from friendly cis women who didn't know me before I began my transition - they often are convinced it's real, at least at the start. My choice of style is quite short, perky and fluffy types rather than long, straight styles which I see on some other trans women and I think that is hard to make look nice.

I had this happen to me a couple hours ago when I was in town, a compliment on my "hair."

I know it can be clocked as a wig, but it helps so much when I see myself in a mirror -- or a store window.
