Question: how to find local in-person activist events?

I'm very interested in being politically active and showing up in-person to show my support for things. I'd love to be at the front of the fight for trans rights- but I also live in California. That doesn't mean that things are perfect for every trans person here, but it does mean there's not nearly as many (if any) anti-trans bills to protest as there are in some other states. I live within the general area of Sacramento and I've been trying to figure out a way to find possible rallies/protests/etc. to go to in my area. I'm really just hoping to get more engaged in-person with my activism. If anyone has any advice that'd be great! Totally down to do counter-protests of any TERF-y or right-wing events as well, but I just don't know how to figure out if there's a plan for a counter protest or when or with whom, etc. Thanks!

Find your closest LGBTQ Center up https://www.lgbtqcenters.org/LGBTCenters there, and also look up Equality California     https://www.eqca.org/  which is another good organization.  LGBTQ centers have advocacy opportunities in your local communities that are highly important.  Being there at a local Board of Education simply as an ambassador even when they are supportive is needed and effective work.  They would also know about actual diversity boards at your county and city levels that you could join.  Organizations such as PFLAG, and Planned Parenthood will also appreciate your help and support.

After giving this entire trans-ifixion much thought, I wonder if it would be to our detriment to actually get involved and have a presence in the 'movement?' At the moment, the attackers have no real target except for a few sports figures, a parade of drag queens, and a couple of vilified politicians.

If someone or some group stepped to the forefront and took up the cross, it may be fuel to the fire giving them (and the horse they rode in on) something to conveniently confront and deride. We may be sitting on a social pimple on the butt of the lowest common denominator of humankind.

As an active and passive member of several political and scientific forums, I'm finding an increasing number of centrist fence sitters coming to the realization that this anti-trans rhetoric is all smoke and mirrors; that it is actually a bunch of politicians and bigots using a harmless and defenseless minority of fellow Americans as pawns - these manufactured villains really don't exist!

It goes against logic (as this whole steaming pile does), that letting the chips fall where they may and giving them enough rope is the best approach, but it very well may be.

@VickySGV

Thanks so much for the resources! I went to a pride event recently and I found some similar organizations attending there, I'll definitely check them out!

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

      I think I lost a friend :(

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.
