Hips

Recommended Posts

For those who have experienced a change in your hips while on HRT, what did it coincide with? I've been on Prog. for 3 months, but haven't noticed any changes there.

Hips depend upon many factors, such as age when starting hormone therapy family genetics, and getting the hormones that give you the best result. You will over time notice growth splurts then stops. Hips tend to come after breast tissue starts to develop. Three months would be too soon, i noticed for me i had lower back pain and started to grow. Try slimming down your waist with exercise. I joined lots of exercise classes which helped me get into shape

I'm not sure if my hips have grown top much.  Puberty denied me the hourglass that i admire.  That being said i am carrying a bit more aft that i have in the past.  When i got new hips i thought of asking the surgeon to add a bit 😄.  He didn't🥲.  Instead age and, perhaps being well into my second decade of estrogen, have given me something worth a pinch.  (Don't you dare!😊.

My hips did grow, but not for a long time.  Three months is way too early to notice much there.

At three months, my breasts were growing.  They were pretty much done by six months.  From six months to a year, I noticed changes in skin texture, and some startlingly nice facial changes: eyes and lips, in particular.  Around that same time frame, I noticed my body hair changing: lighter hair on my arms, much less on my legs, totally gone on my chest.

I didn't notice my hips until about a year ago, which was about year 7 of HRT.  Obviously, there were no bone changes, though my pelvis was always wide for a "guy".  What I noticed was increased fat deposition on my hips and more definition between my waist and hips.  I still have a "third boob" belly (sigh!), but the fat at the sides has moved down to the hips.  I like my curves now.

As always, YMMV.  But the lesson is that this is a marathon, not a sprint.  Be patient.

I am about a year into HRT. I have noticed some hip changes, more of a feminine shape. I bought a skirt a few weeks ago and I put it on and was like, "Wow, that's more like it!" - even some of my guy clothes show a little more curve ... I wish I would have taken before and after photos ... the "problem" is that changes happen so subtly that you don't notice until one day you do ... Enjoy the ride!

Yes, but what fun when you do!  I remember the day I noticed my eyes, and another when I noticed my lips.  Each time, it was like, "Wow!  Whose eyes/lips are those?"  I am not sure that before/after pictures even showed the difference, but I sure saw it in the mirror.  :)

Ive been on hrt for just under 3 months and haven't noticed anything with hips, but I'm also younger than you. I HAVE noticed breast sensitivity, no growth yet

Hips can change in 2 ways, bone changes and fat shift. Cis female bone growth plates usually mature by age 20 and are locked in after that, cis male  bone  growth plates can be a couple of years later maturing. Unless you achieve testosterone suppressed HRT before age 20, it is rare to see hip bone expansion in trans women. Fat transfer to the hip area is more reliant on genetics, and happens to different degrees in all of us, but in mature adults it is usually not as significant as we would like. There are many theories about progesterone and cycling weight to stimulate changes in fat distribution, but none have shown to have reliable results.

For those of us who have small hips (I am 5 sizes larger up top than my hips) all we can do is disguise the difference as best we can.

Hugs,

Allie

15mo. in and the first thing I noticed regarding my hips was when I sat down to use the loo I felt squish where I hadn't before. I am by no means hourglass, still mostly an inverted triangle, but I do have some cushion on my thighs and hips. I asked a friend if I had "dude butt", I always had the flattest of asses, and she told me "no". So things are developing, just not very quickly.

For me i think i got my hip shape through classical ballet, ironically i was sent there due to stunted growth, doing exercises every day to "turn the legs out" so that you can do positions of the feet, (turn out) that and floor exercises, but its also about starting when young on hrt I started hormones at the age of 20 and due to complications of surgery my last gender surgery was when i was 30, but we are all different and as AllieJ has pointed out there are so many variables

@kat2 thanks 💗.

Will these exercises help improve the appearance of flat hips or 'hip dips', that inward curve at the top of the outer thigh, despite not having a naturally flared pelvic bone?

I am not sure what it is you mean, the exercises above can help a younger person up to the age of 20 or those in their twenties, that said ballet is all about shapes and turning out the legs and building up the thigh muscles may create space for fat deposits  the build up of thigh muscle may push the fat to another area so it may be possible, but my thoughts in posting were for younger members

Cisgender women generally develop a wider pelvis during puberty, influenced by estrogen and lack of testosterone dominance.

"Their iliac crest (the outermost part of the pelvis) flares more, creating that characteristic outward curve we associate with feminine hips.

For trans women who start GAHT after puberty, the pelvic bones don't widen so this foundation is narrower."

My question was does this exercise help  "The iliac crest (the outermost part of the pelvis) in trans women to flare more?

This answer my question, thank you.

Reduce Waist and Increase Hips | Curve challenge

I do these exercises every day by reducing the waist and increasing muscle fat builds up to give the curves you may wish to try

This is my most recent front profile of my hip development which currently is 38 and a half, but you have to work on your waist to really make the definition stand out

Joanne, I am delighted that things are going so well for you at work.  Not only do your customers see you as you, but your openness and honesty about who you are has converted a 'phobic co-worker.  That is the best form of activism!

Gosh, what a hive of activity, from your girt friends adventures, to pregnancy, not a quiet life by any means, thats the one thing i must admit i do miss, not being able to have a child of my own, going through a GID clinic they never really touched upon the subject, it wasnt until i met James, that i realised something that the gender clinics never talked about, how to deal with your partners parents, James mum was always having little talks and buying me presents she wanted grand children, James forbid me to tell his mum and dad about my past, my mum was great she said tell James's mum that you cannot have children, but it did impact me, thats the problem when you are younger going through transition it brings up new challenges. Well at last the sun has started to shine, and its nearly time for a walk then dinner, some lovely pictures taken a few days ago shows mother nature has turned the page once again .

watching my figure develope came with it a whole set of new issues, what do i wear? how to cope with men, learning how to make use of my good looks to my advantage. As my body changed so did my confidence the more feed back from joe public the more re enforced the constraints. " I will see you to the door", can you manage that? its way heavy, doors being opened all reflected re enforcement. Moving into a shared house with four other girls, was an eye opener, more so that i was lucky that we were all roughly in the same age group. Understanding what sort of girl was i was more to do with my personality, sometimes that got in the way and could have got me seriously hurt. Debra Lisa and a few others all decided to go to Miss Selfridges a girls shop mainly. I picked a white lycra skin fitting dress off the peg and Debra looked at me and grinned, off we all went with our choice of clothes into a circular changing room, and i emerged and looked in the mirror, one look off Debra said it all!! "your not going to wear that are you", looks in the mirror well, i have a g string on and you cannot see anything, well said Debra be it on your own head. I had bought something that i thought looked good, but what i had not taken into account was the impact upon others. Friday night and it was night out, we all decided we wanted a safe hassle free evening and went to Manchester, Joyce was slightly older but she always kept an eye on me, lol she had hate on her fingers in like a bluish ink, no messing with Joyce. After a few drinks and getting slightly happy i went to the toilet as i walked in a girl looked straight at me and dragged me down to the floor and bit my backside i gave out a loud screech and came out and told Joyce, Debra said we better get you to the infirmary, you might need a tetanus jab, I would rather die than go there and try to explain how i got the teeth marks on my bum, i had never felt such pain.
