It's all about political survival in too many places.  Everyone, Dems and Repubs, are running scared these days.  It's a shame, but if I have to choose, I'm not choosing Republicans.  Maybe I'll register as an Independent after a lifetime of being a Democrat.  Sad state of affairs.

Too many of our public servants (we need to remember they are public servants) legislate only for the things that will get them elected.  I'm not surprised democrats are caving.  They see the issues that resonated with Trump voters and helped to get him elected and they want a piece of that action.

It has been suggested in the press over here that one of the big problems with the political system in the US of A is that there is no official leader of the opposition. Here, we do have one, and they get plenty of press.
