I suppose those used to older sets prefer spell-slinging rather than creature brawls, but they still wind up being about the same. At any rate there are still many great instants and sorcery's being introduced, and a lot of creatures with older spells attached to them. I mean they even just recently brought back flashback and all. Also are you guys talking original Mirroden block? They've already been back to Mirroden block and it's fallen under Phyrexian control, if you know Magic storyline stuff.

Yeah the original mirroden block from 8th edition. I stopped bothering keeping up after Timeshift. But see the Spell Slinging is what set Magic apart from Pokemon, Yu gi oh, Digimon, etc. It wasn't completely luck dependent. Pokemon you can be a beginner and get a good hand and beat an expert, Magic no way thats happening since you have to know what the cards do and how they work in combination. I can make a 1/1 take 30dmg and survive it! Lets see a Magic noob pull that off!

I certainly enjoy the older style of play, focusing on spell play, but I find it more enjoyable to combine that with today's larger, more threatening creatures.

Well not saying anythings wrong with big creatures just that they should've kept the spell slinging being a major factor that the older sets had. I've got a card in my deck thats power/toughness are equal to the number of Clerics in play. I've had it be a 30/30 once, and I've got 2 of em in the deck and they're not legendarys. Big creatures have a purpose but the strategy and planning that a good deck used to take was the big originality. I've got a fun card thats an instant from Homelands and reads "Bury target creature power 4 or greater" so yes you may have a 13/13 Cloudscraper but I has a 1white mana instant that says your cloudscraper is byebye Thats what they lost, the whole winner isn't who had biggest creatures thing. Winning with big creatures used to be hard since they take so long to play. Goblin Swarm decks used to be as dangerous as Creature Sweepers and Kismit Perm Tap decks.

Ah, I have both the Cleric and white kill spell you mentioned. May I suggest trying EDH also known as Commander. It's a casual format that is open to all sets, though it has some bans, and it's a singleton format. It's pretty fun and a great way to use single copies of rares.
