Developing a Deeper Voice

I thought I might as well share a few things I know about getting a deeper voice to other FTM folks out there, especially ones that haven't had T yet.

I'm Pre T, but people often tell me that my voice is abnormally deep, and my physics teacher occasionally makes fun of me in physics class by speaking in an exaggerated deep tone; all in good humor, of course.

From what I know, the stronger the neck muscles, the more relaxed the vocal chords, and so, the deeper the voice.

You can try lying on your bed or couch with your head hanging off the side, then moving your neck upwards so that your chin is almost touching your chest, then go back down again. You can also try moving your neck left and right, just to develop those neck muscles.

Another one (you don't need to lie down to do these ones) is to put your right hand against the right side of your face. Try to move your head to the right, while your hand is pressing to the left, so that there is no motion. You do the same with your left hand on the left side of your face, hand pushing to the right, head pushing left. Then try putting both hands on your forehead. In the same way as the previous exercise, try to move your head forward, with your hands pushing in the opposite direction so that there is no motion. Last, put both hands behind your head and try to move your head backwards, with hands pushing forward.

When you're alone, you can try speaking to yourself slowly in a deep voice, and try to drink a lot of water. These exercises will most likely make your neck sore. At least that happened to me, but I woke up one day with a rather low raspy voice. It was gone by the afternoon, but doing the exercises every day, I managed to make it last all day. Now, my voice is noticeably deeper, permanently. I'm still doing the same exercises, and still going lower and lower as time passes.

So it worked for me, and I thought I might as well share that.

Thanks for sharing this. I had never heard anything like it before. Of course like any exercise they need to be done carefully and discontinued if any problems develop or perhaps consulting your Dr to be sure that they are safe for you but if they help lower voice I know the pre-T guys will love it.

On T myself and my voice is lower-my problem is remembering not to unconsciously push it back up when talking to some people I know aren't comfortable with my transition.

Thank again for sharing

Johnny

Thanks for the tips! I've been trying to lower my voice recently, but it hasn't really been going anywhere. Maybe this will help. (Of course, I'd really like to have a voice like Benedict Cumberbatch or something, but I realize that isn't going to happen, no matter how much of this I do!)

My teachers laugh at me too sometimes.

I don't do that exercises, but since I'm a kiddo i trained my voice and now it just sounds naturally deep (I always had a deeper voice than the average, but didn't sounded masculine enough)

It takes time, but after some months, you get just used to do it and your voice gets deeper, for the people who believe it doesn't work, yes, the voice can be deepened but it takes some serious time and training = discipline. lol

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).

      I think I lost a friend :(

I will have arrived when I have a b*tch certificate of my own.  I think someone called me one once.

That’s fantastic Lorelei. I’m so happy for you.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
