Hello! First off, I suppose I should offer some sort of introduction. My name is David, I am a 21 year old Junior Political Science/Marketing major at Georgia Southern University. I am kind of at an in between stage with my gender identity issues (biologically I am a guy, I have done very little to express my gender identity thus far in my life besides a bit of private CDing). I know at the absolute minimum I am a CD, but I have very strong desires to be completely female at times. (I am not sure if this is a psychological response to the fact that I really cant go out dressed even to the gas station to get a candy bar because well out here everyone knows everyone even at a very large school like GSU.) I am new to this site, but very versed with gender issues (I have spent at the minimum the last 7 years doing my own research on gender identity due to my own confusion.)

Anyways, back to the topic at hand. I am just curious who else out there is a college student here and what university do you all attend? How do you handle your gender identity and how has it affected your day to day while at school. Maybe we can start up a discussion about our experiences and it will be a good resource for others seeking insight!

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Well, I'm in shock. :o

I attend Georgia Southern University as well. I'm a female to male transsexual. I live full time as a male. I saw a gender therapist in North Augusta for 4 months, until he approved me for hormone treatment. Right now I'm trying to get in contact with an endo in Charleston to start testosterone. I have yet to legally change my name, but I tell my professors on the first day of class. Most of them take it well, with no questions at all. I've yet to have anyone refuse to call me Alex or Alexander. That's all I've got for now.

I am currently a college student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa ^^ This is my last semester and after graduating, I think I'll concentrate some time to transition while I kind of kick back the fact that I won't have to go to school.

I agree....I am just like you how i am very versed with the issue and I spent years knowing that I wanted to be a girl, but socially, I couldn't get through too.

I'm at the point where I just don't think I can handle myself anymore as a male...and couldn't see myself in the future as male sooo I'm about a week away from my first HRT :P I used to be scared of going through transitioning because I just didn't want to start acting like...some of the more extreme transgirls out there. Then I started seeing "normal" folks...and I was like, hm...I guess I can stay the same person, just with the right gender. X-D

I only told a few friends who I think are going to be around my life about my issue. They're all fine.

If you need help, let me know!

Holy crap Alex that is awesome! We should meet up and hang out sometime. PM me your contact info or something. Wow I NEVER expected to find another GSU student here, that is crazy!

oOtgOo that is awesome, I am glad you are moving forward with your decision. I am still reaching the point of even going to see a specialist, just right now it would be way too difficult for me to do any of this.

What are your thoughts on starting HRT? I have seen a lot of talk about experiences after the fact, but what do you feel like being pre-hrt?

These are great.. keep em commin!

Heyas,

I just finished my junior college and am attending the University of California Santa Barbara in the fall of 08. I'm taking this semester off to work through my issues and get more money before I move. Plus, I didn't want to transfer in the middle of the year again. As for the whole gender identity thing. I've been on hormones since the start of September, and people know, but I'm still not full time yet. I'm moving in with four girls in June, and was hoping to be full time by the time I move to start off fresh at a new college. They're all really close friends with me so hopefully it'll make it for a pleasurable experience. Anyways, I'll be sure to see and let everyone know in those you know nine months when school starts :P

That's awesome... you are going to UCSB? I can say with all honesty I am extremely jealous. That was my top choice of schools when I transfered out of Junior College but they filled my major and I had already committed to GSU by the time I found out I could have appealed the decision under a different major ><. Have you toured the campus yet? It is flat out BEAUTIFUL up there!

Hey savagedm,

I live about an hour away from the campus and all my friends are going there, so I've been there a lot actually :) I'm going to be living in Isla Vista with four of my friends, so it's going to be a ton of fun hopefully. What major were you going for anyways?

I'm a freshman at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. Since I don't really have everything figured out, and really didn't when I started here back in August, everyone here knows me as female. However, some people know that I'm struggling with gender, and more people are figuring it out as that struggle is becoming more visible through how I dress and act, etc. I know very, very few transgendered people here, but the campus on the whole seems pretty supportive and accepting. I'd love to be out, but I feel like I should figure myself out a little more first. Mostly, though, I'm not out because I'm afraid, I'm ashamed to say. I live in the boys section of the dorm purely by coincidence (it's a long story), but I'm glad of it; it makes me feel more at home. People treat me like a girl sometimes and like a guy other times, which suits me for now. The only places that I feel really disconnected are where things are gender segregated, like bathrooms, sports, and choir.

Hehe, well honestly, the biggest thing that goes on in my mind is "****, I have to tell my mom soon...before they start popping out." ...and if I know anything about my family's genes, I probably won't be able to hide them 6 months in HRT.

I also gave up on spending my last semester as a girl, but I had one last chance to write one of those "write a biography of yourself" paper...

...and up to this point, I always omitted the gender dysphoria part. I noted in it, that this is my first, and possibly my last college bio essay where I wrote down where I actually come from and what happened in my life. XD

It's the first time I'd be telling a professor :P. It's okay, the class is called "Media Ethics" sooo I don't see why it won't be taken well. X-D

Hmm, what else. oh yeah, the "sirs" and "gentleman" or stuff like that stings a little more right now. Hmmm.....but all in all, it's full of hope X-D. I can't wait . :P Ugh, it's Saturday but it feels like it's forever...

Ooo, I'm also slowwly giving up acting up and trying too hard to be "manly" =_= I walk with a pronation, hmm...I speak with a higher voice right now...i still wear emo clothings....i refused to cut my hair now....i am growing my nails out :)....u know, stuff i can get away for now X-D

I'm also trying to tell people I believe will be in my life for a while about what I'm going through right now, but after getting countered by my friend coming out as gay, I'm kinda holding up on coming out right now. :P

It's also great that you two go to school together! Oh my! I wish I could meet someone in UH like me X-D As much as I go through support groups, or this forums, I always do wish I could know someone who's transitioning that's around my age to be a friend. :)

I am a Political Science major with a minor in Marketing. (Believe it or not they actually mesh quite well together) after college I want to go into something with money so I can afford first of all to take care of my debt with my degree and my HRT... and also my parents when their 401ks run out in like 15 years. So probably a business(wo)man or banker hehe.

Heh yeah it's pretty cool that Alex goes here... I am excited to start exploring the different options for TGs this school has (though not very many sadly :() But we will see! But I'm happy you are finally starting to be true to yourself o0tg0o! I'm sure there's more in hiding at your campus, especially if it is accepting, you just have to look hard enough :P

I'm transgender ftm (though sliding somewhat toward androgyne).

I a college student..sorta lol. I'm taking a break from college this semester (spring), I did really horibbly here last semester and now I need to focus even more on earning more money to move again, so yea, right now I don't really have time for college. >_< I'm going to Towson University, film major. I live full time as male. I may or may not restart T. My teachers know that I'm tg, I give them a letter on the first day of class. My coworkers (I work on campus) all know me as male (at least the ones I work often with know me as male, the ones I don't see as often probably think i'm a girl.-i don't pass most of the time, but I have passed on occasion) One coworker knows me as tg, and she's really cool about it.

I am also a college student transgender ftm (sliding more toward androgyne as well :)) who works on campus (all the way out in nowhere, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) :P

Over winter break, I discovered one of my ex's had begun ftm transition, and after a long convo, I started on my journey to uncover myself--- therefore, this semester is the first time I contacted my teachers about calling me Eliot. It's been quite trying (I'm only 2 days in and every time my name gets called a sudden wave of nervousness overcomes me.) And it's even a daily transition in finding out "who I am".... relearning and trying to have self-confidence is the hardest part.

So I am still transitioning--- no one knows yet besides close friends. People at work still see me as a female, I have worked there as a female for a year. I have started wearing my binder and as I don't talk to my bosses (or co-workers) much, and am not often addressed by my name, I haven't made an issue of it.

For the most part all of my professors didn't even blink an eye about the name change. One even handed out a "student" form out the first day getting to know people, about their religion, background, etc and even included a question about sexuality and gender, which was awesome as hell.

I suppose that while I'm still not fully comfortable as "Eliot" and every day is a nerve-wracking experience--- I made up my mind that sitting in classes being called "Jessica" would be a lot worse, internally having to correct myself or going through half a semester as "Jessica" and then changing over and then being the subject of class scrutiny. i'm not a brave person x_x

Hey Alex. Welcome to the forums. Yeah, I've only lived here for six months now, but I get the feeling that SE Washington can leave a trans person feeling awfully isolated and alone.

Hope you stick around and get to know people on here. It's a great community.

My alma mater is USC, the USC, not the California knockoff. Right now I'm Poli. Sci. but I'm gonna change it to Chem. or Phys. soon.

Ahh you are only like 5 hours away from us down here at Southern! How's the weather up there? Dont change from PoliSci! It's the most fun major out there!

Link to comment

Yea Poli Sci is fun and I like it, but I don't think that I wanna make a career out of it. That and I paid $20 to take a test and have a counselor at the career center tell me that I would be happiest in one of the sciences. Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Geology; and rocks are boring sooo..... The weather on the other hand is finally starting to warm up and hopefully it'll be spring soon.

Hey Ryan. Thanks for the welcome. Hopefully the weird weather hasn't chilled you on eastern WA. Yeah being trans in this part of the state can be real isolating.

I am back in college, this time identifying as a transgender male at a Bluegrass Technical Community College in Lexington, Kentucky. A few of my classmates "suspect" something about me. I guess my slightly long fingernails gave me away, lol. Also, a couple of classmates have been hitting on me. I don't really look feminine, but not masculine, either, yet I act a little feminine. Go figure :D

Good evening @Ashley0616,   I just got offline with HP tech support trying to get my printer tool box icon locked to my tool bar. This is one of the most important features of my printer that I like because it keeps track of ink, paper, and scanned documents. I'm diffidently not a computer geek.   I'll catch up with the other bookmarks next week. We leave to go home for the Easter Holiday with our families. Saturday with her side, and Sunday with my side. What's odd about that is I'm out to more of her side and they're reluctantly supportive. My side on the other hand are less supportive, and my sister just under me in age will not acknowledge my being there. She will be constantly moving to keep from dealing with me. I'm dead to her.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I used to follow baseball and the team I would cheer for is Boston Red Sox. My favorite player was Papi. He was an awesome guy and even held a child during the National Anthem. I haven't watched baseball for a long time. It just died off to me.
    • Ashley0616
That stinks that nothing transferred, and no bookmarks were saved!

My view is we are "dependent" on government, because as a society, we are too lazy to stay actively involved. So, we let politicians do our bidding for us.  I think we'd be in a better place government wise if we policed the actions of our politicians.  We elected them; they work for us.  Sadly, we are allowing them to run amok.  We are where we are because we have chosen to let politicians make all decisions without us.  Remember "by the people, for the people?" That was the intent of our democracy.  Today, however, it is "by the politicians, for the politicians," the people be damned.

"Play Ball! Batter Up!" is the closing line of the National Anthem as far as I'm concerned. It's the call of the Home Plate Umpire and signals the start of the game. I grew up in the TV and Radio broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, and Mike Shannon, were the voices on my transistor radio. KMOX 1120 AM pushing 50,000 watts of Class A clear-channel non-directional signal. It could be picked up all across MO, IL, IN to the East. KS, OK, CO to the West. IA, MN to the North, and KY, TN, AR to the South. There has always been a rivalry against the Chicago Cubs, in the National League. As for the American League, I have to pull for the Kansas City Royals. I've also been a Little League Umpire, and fan of everything the Little League stands for. Going to Williamsport, PA and seeing the Little League World Series is in my top 10 things to do on my bucket list.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good evening everyone,   I don't think my mother ever cooked a meal that I didn't like. We also had a kitchen where mom fixed the food, dad filled your plate, and you eat it. It wasn't until our baby brother was born that we could have Pop-Tarts for snacks. Before that all snacks had to meet mom's approval, and in her opinion wouldn't prevent you from eating supper.   Well my day started off on a good note, but has become frustrating because my IT person didn't transfer my saved videos I use for teaching. Then I found out that they didn't save any of my book marks for websites I use frequently.   Best wishes, stay motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

The number is relative to method of deliver, the time of the dose, and when the blood is drawn. However, I do want to keep away from DVT and other potential issues. I assume I may be getting backed down from my current dose, but my doc told me to stick with the higher dose, so? I also wonder if this has anything to do the my breast growth and mental changes that have been happening over the past few years, like I have some estrogen sensitivity so a little goes a long way or something? I don't have enough data to postulate, but who knows!   With weekly, subcutaneous, shots you expect to see big swings of serum level estradiol from shot to peak to trough. My doctor is interested in mid-week testing (for E and T levels only), which would be post-peak blood serum levels but they will be higher than trough. Most, if not all, resources I've seen online is to measure at trough (which I might do just to do it next time) along with a SHBG, LH, and other metrics.   This is from transfemscience.org for Estradiol valerate in oil, which is very spiky compared to some other estradiol combinations. It's also for intramuscular, which will have a slower uptake and is usually dosed in higher volume due to the slower absorption rate from muscles. They don't have subcutaneous numbers, which I would expect to see similar spikes but higher levels at similar doses due to the relatively higher absorption rate direct from fat.   Are you doing pills, shots, or patches? And when you do get your levels checked are you getting that done when your levels are lowest or some other time?

Both of my parents were from the “North Shore” of Boston.  My mother Lynn and my father Swampscot.  They had an early 1900s Scots-Irish New England diet.  My sister and I were born in the 40s in Ohio well away from New England seafood and in an area where food was more German and Polish.  My first experience with liver and onions was during basic training.  They ate salt cod but never forced us to eat it same with oysters.  My dad ate oysters but my mother wouldn’t.  Anyone who ever ate an oyster can figure that one out.  I grew up eating lamb.  My wife won’t touch it. I love brazed ox tail, again no way. And the list goes on.

Wow that is a high number for Estradiol good grief! Testosterone levels are better than mine. I don't remember my Estradiol level but testosterone was 80. To me that is really high but it was in the two hundreds the check in before last one.
