Here's an interesting article and opinion about the TRansgender Communities fight against HRC http://www.baywindows.com/index.php?ch=col...3=&id=54944 that should spark a debate. Some say we should go it alone without them. Others say we should stick together. There are several articles about this in the Transgender news on the site. http://www.lauras-playground.com/trans_news.htm

Intrestingly my email is pretty much evenly split when it comes to the Transgender Community making peace with HRC. What do you think?

I think the HRC can not be trusted period. They clearly don't get the implications of what they've done (unnecessarily split the community over a flawed bill that will NEVER see the light of day with Bush in the White House) At last count we had over 300 organizations that supported us. The HRC stands alone and IMO should be shunned for throwing us under the bus.

I am still VERY, VERY angry at the HRC, Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi over this whole fiasco.

:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry: X infinity (well almost)

Three cheers for Rep Tammy Baldwin for standing up for us.

Looooonnnnggggg story.

1969: Stonewall Rebellion. This is the beginning of the modern gay/lesbian movement. But guess who started it all? Trans people, but that inconvenient truth is lost on many today.

1970's: First attempt at getting an ENDA (Employment Non Discrimination Act) passed. We were the first casualties of this effort and thrown under the bus.

Late 70's: We (MtF's) become vilified by Janice Raymond and other radical feminists.

80's: A bad time for us period.

Early 90's: We start to re-organize and start assimilating back into the community, which adds the letter T, as in GBLT.

1994: The second betrayal. As a new effort is being made to create a new version ENDA, gets who gets thrown under the bus again?

Late 90's-early 00's: We reorganize again. The internet allows us to do this like never before. We make ourselves heard!

Jan 2007: After intense lobbying we are included in the new proposed ENDA legislation. We are promised that we will stick together no matter what. We give lots of time and money to the effort and we testify before Congress.

Setp 26, 2007: Black Wednesday. In the days before ENDA will finally be formally introduced rumors fly that we're going to be thrown under the bus again. In the spring Rep Barney Frank (openly gay) had been made the chief sponsor of our bill. He had a history of transphobia, but people thought he was more educated now. WRONG. He announces that we are to be thrown under the bus AGAIN. His plan is to split ENDA in two (a gay part and a trans part) and submit both bills separately. He is immediately denounced by us and over 300 GBLT oprganization nationwide. Because of the ruckus the vote is delayed, but ultimately the spilt is formalized (2 separate bills). It's clear that Rep Frank and Rep Pelosi don't care about us, they just want to pass something as resume fodder. The new gay only ENDA is filled with loopholes that will make it ineffective, but our opponents won't be swayed. The fact that the bill will never be signed by Bush doesn't sway them either. It was a HUGE mess that was totally ignored by the press. It makes me sooooo angry.

To sum up: It was an incredibly intense and disappointing chapter in GBLT history. We were betrayed by some allies and politicians. So much happened in those couple months it's almost impossible to document it all. The question now is how damaged is the community (GBLT) and can we get it together for a new push in 2009?

Well then we should just abandon them and take our own movement up. If others want to join us then they are welcome, but those that do not want us can go kick rocks.

It is unfortunate that during the limited time I have been going over the political movement for LBGT, and also the various organizations out there.... seems alot like the "T" gets merely lip service. Even my union's national "GLBT" group, which is supposed to be my advocate for possibly coming out, simply either does not understand 'T" or just doesn't want to deal with it - I was referred to HRC's site for their "coming out" brochure! Sad fact is if you're gay or lesbian, you're better off than being TG.... we're definitely the unwanted children.

QFT, Sister....qft....I found it was alot easier to come out as a "gay man" than a "straight woman in a mans body"....Gotta love labels, eh?

I am extremely non-political, I avoid confrontations and politics as we know it is nothing but.

One of the problems that I see for being more accepted as a medical condition rather than a lifestyle choice is the fact that we are in the GBLT! For the uniformed this reinforces the idea that it is a choice and that it is directly linked to having sex as a different gender - after all the other three letters are all based on sexual preference - not gender!

While I can see that being part of a much larger group can be helpful in applying leverage, it seems that whenever it seems that we might cost them anything - we're gone anyway! Maybe we should be on our own, I haven't seen a lot of help from anybody else anyway!

But remember, I've been living with my head buried in the sand for my entire life!

In the beginning I felt unity was the way to go. That there was "strength in numbers". And there is strength in numbers I'm just not sure that our numbers are strengthing our cause anymore. Especially when , not only are we not getting any of the "group" benefits offered the rest of the letters -LGB- but we're actually being misused in some instances by oppenents of the LGB to justify continuing discriminaton against them while simultaneously undermining our own hope of being recognized as a part of the population battling a medical issue not an orientation issue and seeking legislation and seeking to be recognized for that not "sex and relationships".

I additonally realize the greatest obstacle we actually face is the mainstream fear of us transitioning successfully. To them it means the possibility of getting too close to "one of us" without knowing it and for them that is just a "horror". I think the greatest aid to any of us with this regard will be to give them opportunities to actually know/see us without it being for any "sensational" or controversial reason. Until transpeople aren't doing something "odd" for the gender they are living as I don't see the multitudes being ready to "open their arms in understanding." And I'm sorry but all the "deviating outside of the binary" and "abolishing the binary" etc. that some peeps want to do is not going to cut it if you want these people to buy what you're selling because (and I think some people overlook this) the gender that some people want to "rewrite" and "deconstruct" is already being lived in by a whoooole bunch of folks who like it just the way it is and don't want to be one of what it is they want to "make being a man be" or "make being a woman be". And honestly who are you to change someone else's gender's definition?

Politics has plenty of very apt descriptions...Mark Twain and Will Rodgers were masters at it. Evan is, as per the usual, spot on in his assessment. Leah is immersed and more than versed with this issue. There's LOTS that smells about politics...and then leaves a bad taste afterwards that no amount of brushing or air sanitizer will remove. I will profess a bit of political ignorance here but isn't it really about persuasion? Politics that is...If there is a tendancy for the 'T' to be run over by the Freedom Bus as the GLB Community goes down the highway like a band of gypsies, are they perhaps under-estimating the intellectual and financial clout of this aspect? Barney Frank is one of the more adept politicians I have ever witnessed at the mystical art of talking out of both sides of the mouth while saying nothing. Sad but true it would probably be wiser to reinforce just how much more effective the GLB is when it has the 'T' added.

As a group, there is strength in numbers. To go it alone is suicide, especially in todays

techno glass house. I think stronger ties to the global community should be made keep

up with new developments and I say this as a 15yr net junkie, Strides should be taken to

get some protection from the U.N. as a Global Community.

The idea of the UN is good but for the most part it is a paper tiger, it is good about passing resolutions but it has no powers of enforcement so countries can do as they wish.

To go it alone I agree is near on suicide but since the other parts of the glbT movement insist on giving us the left overs then we may need to think of something. One of the first things we need to do is get some accurate numbers as to how many of us there are the stats I have found are all over the map. Unless we can nail it down to something a politician can wrap his/her mind around then we dont stand a chance.

How many of us are there?

what is it we as a group want?

what is the best way to get it?

should we start at the state and local level and work up?

Here at Laura's we are international in scope and have a very active user base, this might give us something to work from but I dont know. The only thing the organs of state understand is numbers, how many of you are there and can you help me get elected.

Yikes these old topics keep coming up!

The GLBT community in New Orleans has been cautioned to keep the "T" in their fight for rights or we will not support them. They have reluctantly agreed.

Apparently it has to be a GLBT by GLBT local group battle. There is a tendancy to sacrifice us to appease politicians, and the excuse is they will come back later and fight for us. DON"T ACCEPT THAT!

I was working with an advocacy group named PROMO here in Missouri, on one of our trips to the state capital to educate our state legislators I wanted to bring up the fact the for the Transgendered it was a medical condition and nothing else. I was told not to do this by the state director of PROMO that wasn't how they wanted to handle us. When I realized this I basically went on my own the rest of that trip and did things my way and have not worked with PROMO since. I will not stand with those who push us to the back or onto the floor to be walked on by the world it's night fair or right.

One of our cats is polydactyl.  He has 7 toes on each front paw and 5 on each back paw, for 24 toes total.   Another one, an ex-feral who, at the time, was free to roam, climbed 50 feet up a tree without having any thought about how he was going to get down.  His pal climed down backwards, but he couldn't.  He ended up coming down by leaping from branch to branch.  Which nearly gave us heart attacks, because he only has one eye and therefore has no depth perception.   The other ex-feral (both are now indoor cats) obviously does not have those soft pads on his feet.  At night, when we are in bed, we can hear him stomping around the house.

The two o'clock Onshoring meeting was going well.  Taylor was leading, inviting other people up to speak on their specialties. Aerial photogrammetry and surveying, including the exact boundary, were out for contract signature  Gibson had handled that - Manufacturing was supposed to, but somehow hadn't happened.  Legal issues from Legal. Accounting reported on current costs, including all upkeep, guard salaries, etc.  Manufacturing was supposed to give those numbers, but they hadn't.   The downside was the VP of Manufacturing.  He had arrived at the meeting red-faced, his tie askew, clutching a bottle. It smelled strongly of vodka. He had never done anything in his twenty years of being VP of Manufacturing, and he did not like being asked now.   "Mr. ----, do you have the inventory we asked for?" Taylor asked politely.  VP Gibson had asked him to have his people go through the plant and not only inventory but assess the operational status of every piece of equipment.  They needed to know what they had. "I'm not going to take any f---- orders from a g-d- tra---," he snarled. "God knows what kind of perverts it has dragged into our fair city and bangs every night." "That is completely out of line." That was Gibson.  Taylor controlled herself.  That was a shot at Bob, not just at Taylor.  She was glad Bob was not there to do something stupid.  Had Mrs. McCarthy been talking? What had she said?  Was she given to embellishment?  Taylor took a deep breath. "I'm not sorry.  You f--- can take this stupid onshoring --- and shove it up your -" "That is quite enough."  This was the head of HR. "You can take your sissy ways and sashay -" "You are fired." "You can't fire me." "Oh, yes I can," said the office manager.  The VP took another swig from his bottle. "Try it."  He looked uncertain. "I will have you removed.  Are you going to leave on your own?  I am calling the police to help you leave." And he dialed the number. He stomped out cursing. They heard him noisily go down the hall.  This was the front conference room.  He actually went through security and out the door, throwing his badge on the ground on his way.  The guard picked it up. They could see this through the glass wall. "Can you fire a VP?" "The Board told me that if anyone gives me problems they should be shown the door. Even a VP.  I can fire everyone here. I won't, of course. Those were problems." "Are you alright, Taylor?" She nodded.  "I've heard worse.  Shall we continue?" And they did.   The last item was that certain business people in China had been arrested, and the corporation that had been supporting them all these years had been dissolved.  They were on their own, and the Board was dead serious on straightening things out.  After this meeting, Taylor believed it.  She did not attend the meeting to discuss how to distribute the few duties the VP of Manufacturing had done.  That was ultimately up to the Board.

Lunch was at Cabaret, still free.  The place was quiet: it was the sort of place you took a business client to impress them, and the few other people were in business suits.  Most of the legal profession was there.   She told him of the morning's frustrations, breaking her own rule about confidentiality.  She asked Karen how the branding was going, and Karen had snapped back that she had not started on it yet - they had all these proposals.  Taylor had explained that it was important, for the two o'clock meeting, and Karen told her to do it herself.  Karen pointed out that Taylor could not touch her - her uncle was on the Board and her brother was VP of Manufacturing.  Nor would the two computer guys go out to the plant - they were playing some kind of MMORPG and simply not available. If she wanted the pictures, she should go.  Mary prayed an Ave Maria, but both she and Brenda were racing to get the proposal out. The client wanted it Friday for review.   She didn't bring up what Mrs. McCarthy had told her.  She wasn't sure how to approach it.  She thought of telling her of a 'something more comfortable' she had bought in case he ever DID show up at her door. It was in the bottom drawer of her dresser, ready to go.  Instead she talked about moving to a place with a garage.  Several of the abandoned houses had one, and they had been maintained well with China cash.   Bob had finally realized that when he was introduced as Bob, Taylor's boyfriend, that was just how things were done here. Other people had introduced each other in terms of family relationships, which were strong.  Long before you found out anything else about someone, you knew how they were related.  Family kept people from leaving Millville.    "What is the real name of this town, anyway?"   She laughed.  "I am trying to find that out.  It's 'Welcome to Millvale' when you come into town from the north, and 'Welcome to Millville' on the south.  I have counted two other variants."   "What a town. Roosevelt is like that, with the families, but there is only one spelling."

Bob was on his way home from the dojo and he "just happened" to driver by her place. It was 10:30.  Her light was still on.  He knew exactly where she was sitting.  He saw her in his mind.   A fierce wave of desire that took his breath away suddenly showed up. All he had to do was stop, get out of the car, walk to the door and knock.  She would answer, glad to see him.  She would know why he was there and what he wanted. She would invite him in, maybe get him something to drink, disappear for a moment and return in "something more comfortable."  She would lead him back. Oh, joy.   And never, ever speak to him again afterwards.  Or she would not let him in but be angry about it.  In no way, emotionally, physically, mentally or spiritually, was she ready for this, and he knew it, if he was honest with himself, and she knew he knew it.  She would look upon it as another assault and their relationship would be irretrievably broken.  He would have to leave town. It would devastate her. It would devastate him.    He fought himself.  He was frozen to his seat as his reason and his body fought. He was twenty four years old, a full-blooded male with normal desires; he had just worked out and he was ready.  All he had to do now was open the car door. No one would know. He held his hands, one in the other, to keep one from moving, against his reason and will, to open that door.  He did not want to be a slave of his desires.   He looked across the street.  Mrs. McCarthy, sister of his landlord, was peeking though her window.  She knew his car.  Everyone in town would know by noon the next day if he got out of the car.  Taylor did not need that, either, and she would know, if he came to the door now, what a selfish thing it would be: in his own eyes, in the eyes of Taylor, in the eyes of the town, and worst of all, in the eyes of God.   He sat there a moment longer.  He was, as he reflected, entering into her sufferings in a small way that she would be made whole, healthy and happy: what he wanted more than anything.  But this hurt.  Why had all this come on her?  He asked God again, but there was only silence. He drove home in that silence. He chided himself for even going on her street and for driving on it other nights.  He would stop that, he told himself.   ------------------------------------------   The next morning Taylor went out to her car to go to work.  Mrs. McCarthy met her before she got to it. "I thought you were going to get lucky last night, dearie," she said. Taylor was puzzled. "Why, what do you mean?" "That young fellow - you know, Bob - he's been driving around here, going up and down the street some nights, not stopping.  Well, last night he parked and sat in his car for a while.   I think he was staring at your window.  I think he was trying to get up the courage to knock on the door. I was rooting for him.   But then he drove away.  Faint heart never won fair lady, as they say. What a shame. You two are a lovely couple.  Well, have a good day!" "Thank you, Mrs. McCarthy."  Taylor knew Bob extremely well and knew what had been going through his mind.  She was more than grateful he had not gotten out of the car. Better for him, better for her, better for everybody.  Surgery "down there" sooner than later.  This was driving the poor boy crazy. It was driving her crazy, too.  But she had a lot to work through. Surgery "up here" she said, pointing to her head.  She woke up her therapist on the way to work.  They were still talking when she pulled into her designated parking spot.  That was a perk that had happened yesterday.  She took a deep breath and headed into work. It would be another wild day.

I'm thinking about some interactions yesterday I did, while presenting as male but acting as female, that were far better than I did when I was presenting as male and acting as male.  #girlunderhood. I do a crappy job at acting as male and I am giving it up.  I am not talking about feminine gestures or presentation but just relating as a woman.  People don't realize I am doing it but it is a whole lot easier to do.   You don't just put on a dress and BOOM you are a girl.  You are a girl and you put on a dress.  Or not. Whether I am in jeans or a skirt (I wish, wife would have lots to say) I am a girl.  I don't need $250 in makeup and heels and hose and all that.  I don't need surgery. Honey, I have arrived.  Now I have to work out how that best works in my life, causing the minimal damage and creating the maximum good, but I have more working room.   Oh, and I am still pissed off at everyone and everything. #Contradictory.

@Willow it is certainly possible that my husband planned it. Placing me in the path of an opportunity....he certainly does things like that. GF has done some work for the company as an outside consultant, so I'm sure the company owner knows what potential resources are around.    It could also have just happened randomly. He has taken me to work with him before, just because he likes to have me around. I remember one time that I fell asleep with my head in his lap, and he held a meeting with his subordinates without waking me and making me move.  The company culture is family oriented and relaxed.
