Alice In Wonderland

Okay, maybe my distaste for Alice in Wonderland is a little bit slanted. It wasn't just the movie that turned me off, but it is also notable that my mother was a little tipsy, wouldn't stop chattering away, got sick, passed noxious gas, fell asleep, and then made me leave before the movie was over, but it was also quite boring in itself. I'm sorry, but when Anne Hathaway actually dared to say, "Have you spoken to the trees lately? Try speaking in a kinder voice," I was sure that my mother had every right to stand up and give the movie screen the finger (which she did). I found the entire movie to be completely ridiculous, and the only part I actually enjoyed was speculating on how the actress playing Alice got her hair to look that way. Anyway, I found the entire movie to be rather dull and insulting to the Disney classic that just won't seem to go away...

Well Lauren,

That was some critique of the remake of "Alice in Wonderland".

When I was a child, that was one of my favorite stories my mother used to read to me before bedtime :)

I used to pretend that I was Alice.

I was a bit afraid of what might happen when you turn Tim Burten and Johnny Dep loose on a classic.

Sorry that you had such a terrible time.

I'm afraid I'm a Tim Burton fan and I actually think the remake is pretty amazing. Although I can see why people who grew up with Alice in Wonderland would dislike it. I wasn't much of an Alice fan when I was younger and this remake made it a bit more quirky and added a darker tinge to it- for me anyway lol My girlfriend is an Alice Purist and she said she had to go in thinking of it as a sort of 'Alice 2' and just forget the original story itself.

Definitely want it for my collection but I think for purists, it was ruined.

While I haven't seen it yet, i understood this to be a sort of sequel. I mean in the trailer they all say she's back, and wasn't the first/original movie the only time she had been there? So, i would think they were not making a remake rather a sequel.

It is in fact a sequel. I keep hearing people say that they don't see how it is a sequel, but about half way through there is a whole flash back thing going over the events of the "cartoon". (painting white roses red, A tea party with the mad hatter, etc.)

It has definitely proven to be a film that is not for everyone. I did enjoy it quite a bit myself.

Well, Alice was the first book I ever read where the words took up more space than the pictures. That was way back in grade 2, and I've loved it, and reading, ever since. This movie wasn't anywhere near as good, but I quite enjoyed it anyway (apart from the stupid dance Johnny Depp did at the end which was so out of character with the rest of the film). The visuals were really good, the acting mostly good, Alice was quite lovely and they'd managed to cobble together a storyline that kind of worked as a sequel, and included most of the main characters. But the story was so Hollywood fantasy movie cliche and so not Lewis Carroll. Good looking but kinda dumb. Worth seeing if you like that kind of thing.

Gee......

Purist beware!

I think that the clue here is "Tim Burton".

It's kinda like Ferrari building a Volkswagen......you know that the engine will be Ferrari...

Same here...it's a Tim Burton film.....

Imaging if it had been directed by Jackie Chan.........

The Volkswagen was designed by Dr. Porche!

Not conna judge untila I see it! I LOVE Lewis Carroll! Grew up on it - the first movie I ever saw was Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland!

But Uncle Walt didn't follow the book exactly. And Wizard of Oz? - Frank Baum's books were completely different.

I liked the book version(s) and the movie versions on both classics. Fantasy and fantastic characterization are SOOOOOO good!

Johnny Dep? OMG - Edward Scissorhands, Icabod Crain, Sweeney Todd, the barber who cut throats - Jack Sparrow - anything he does is bizzzzarooo

Tim Burton - oh my!

I'll give it a try... I LIKE weird shows!

Although I am a fan of both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp I couldn't watch this movie all the way through. I would hhave been especially disgusted had I paid theater prices to see it.

It seemed to me that the director was so involved in the sets and background the actual story got lost and pushed aside. But it was beautiful to look at-each scene was like a painting. Granted it was a Tim Burton style painting but still beautiful. But ou can only spend so long admiring sets.

Being obsessed with both Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, all I saw was a masterpiece. I have seen the movie so many times I have the whole thing memorized now.

You haven't seen many Johnny Depp movies have you? Check out:

Donnie Brasco - Drama(true story) - He played undercover FBI agent Joe Pistone AKA Donnie Brasco

Don Juan Demarco - Romance - He played a young man who told a story to a shrink beliving himself to be Don Juan

Public Enemies - Action - He played John Dillinger

Dead Man - Western - He Plays William Blake.

Finding Neverland - Drama - He is a playwright who makes an incredible impact on the lives of a certain family.

Cry Baby - "Bad Boy" Movie

What's Eating Gilbert Grape - Drama - He played Gilbert Grape

Platoon - War - He played Pvt. Lerner

And if you want something a little darker that Tim Burton didn't do try:

The Ninth Gate - He played a writer named Mort Rainey

From Hell - About Jack the Ripper. He played Inspector Abberline.

Those are just a few. I have everything he has ever done, including his side projects that never really advertised his name. If you want any other movies of his to check out, just ask.

I have long felt that if you are going to make an 'original' film - don't call it by the name of a book that you have no intention of following.

I have seen only parts of this movie but a great number of the scenes that I have seen were never in Alice's adventures 'through the looking glass' or in 'wonderland' as Lewis Carrol had described them or else I had the really, really abridged version.

You cant forget

Blow - where he plays George Jung the cocaine smuggler (I don't like George Jung but Depps acting is amazing)

RachaelAnn: The Ninth Gate he played Dean Corso a rare book dealer. Mort Rainey was the Secret Window which is some of his best work in my opinion.

I didn't see the remake but when I was a child my mother showed me the older animated version of alice in wonderland and I have flashes of memory but I can not remember the whole film. Flashes of certain scenes can be played through my head but I can not remember the entire movie. I didn't see the remake because even though I could not remember all of the original I had this feeling that it was going to be a rip off of the classic. I also thought that since the original was animated that it would lose its charm in live action. It is kind of silly that with my hazy memory I had these worries but I didn't see the film because of them.

I went to work with my husband today.  He asked me this morning if I wanted to go...of course I said yes.  I enjoy being with him, and getting away from the house for a little while.  He spent half the day in his office, which I think is why he asked me along.  He made a nest in the corner for me, where I can plug in my laptop and do my stuff...nobody minds me being there.     But today ended up with a strange opportunity.  I had a conversation with my husband's boss, the company owner.  They want some basic graphic design work done, so I think they might hire me to do it.  Nothing fancy, not nearly as complicated as what I've attempted to do for our county.  So I have a meeting with them on Monday, just to look at some details and see if I can do the work they want.  And especially talk about when they need it done, because I still work pretty slowly.  I don't really need or want the money, but its nice to feel like I can do something again.

I went to WM today with the objective of buying sandals: they would be women's, but look like men's; they would be brown or black, not white.  I realized the cheapest way to go  was to go for flip-flops, which I observed were prevalent in the store. So I checked out the women's.  Flowers. White shiny straps. Nothing that could possibly be men's. The best deal was one flip flop for $3.98.  At first I thought that was a pair, then, nope.  And because I comparison shop (is there the same thing in men's?) I found the cheapest over there was $6.98 for a pair of flip flops in green that also match my women's cargo shorts that I love.  Doing the math, finding the pink tax.  Rip off.  I have found a blue tax this way, but usually they charge women more for something than they do men. I guess women tend to lose one flip flop at a time or something. Weird.  The pairs were a lot higher.   So, following my rule, but unhappy with it, I bought the green men's flip flops.  They were the cheapest.  Later wife of mine complimented how masculine I look in my matching shorts and flip-flops.  Inward groan. We have not discussed the Subject in a long time because I think she forgets it is there as soon as the conversation ends.  Or she is trying to talk me out of this.  Not sure.  We only discuss it when necessary, and how often do most couples discuss whether one spouse is one sex or the other? Outside of here, I mean.  So we very seldom talk about it and she is happier if she does not know about it. Super stealth.  I do the laundry and I shower in the shower in the wing away  from the master bed room so I have my own shower.

I'm very glad that everything worked out even better than you thought. It's a tough spot to be in and I know the exact feelings. I'm still waiting to apply for divorce under abandonment so I officially can meet someone who one day I can call someone my prince or my queen. Although the desire for someone is fading because of everything. it's even more amazing that she was your high school sweetheart! Looking forward to the next entry.

Awww thanks for listening everyone. I have another 5-6 songs in this style that I started recording at the same time, so hopefully I’ll finish the next release soon.   Yes, exactly. Everything was easier about this project, mainly because it felt authentic. The energy was very different, because it was such a pleasure to express myself without a filter. I laughed a lot.

Well I had an interview with the local Ford Dealership for an opening in the parts dept. It sounded positive. I was told I would here by tomorrow morning.    Other than that just sticking around the house. I haven't done much, the weather is cold and yucky. Doesn't look like good weather till Sunday. Maybe tomorrow I'll fire up the heater in the garage and see about getting the other brake hose put on the Explorer.   Have a good rest of your day/evening.   Hugs, Kymmie

Maybe they called me he/him at the dealership because I completely forgot my mascara! Eyeliner without mascara…a bold new trend among the helplessly lost! :)   Fixed that!
