If I Were The Last Person On Earth

Hi!

Just a little 'What if' question I came up with while on a walk. Please assume the following:

Its the future, and HRT can be accomplished within a few days. A robotic surgeon can perform the surgery with high-quality results, but the power source to the surgeon may run down in a month, with no known way to recharge it.

The basic necessities of life are available, just no people.

At first, I thought my answer was a resounding 'Yes', but I want to think some more on it..... :(

Perhaps a couple of additional 'What ifs' :

What if there were a couple of small groups elsewhere on the planet, and someday you will meet up with them. One of the groups is very Trans-friendly, the other group Trans-phobic to the point of being a danger. Would this change your mind?

Answer to number one...yes, I'd do it right away...

Even if there are no other people...Because I need to transition for myself...not for others...

I'd still want to be me....

and number two....It would not change my mind one bit...

The group that is Trans friendly....Cool!

The other would never know that I was Trans in the past after my robotic facilitated surgery...

So, either way it wouldn't matter..

And I'd still be me!

Dearheart,

In this case, I would transition completely. After transitioning, being transgendered would not apply :)

I am woman!! No one would think anything else :)

I would be sad because everyone I knew would be gone and wouldn't get a chance to see me as the woman I am. I am not transitioning for others (except in that a happier me is a better me to be around). I am doing this to be right with myself.

If there were going to be no people? Not only would I transition, I would get the biggest hoo-haa I could.

......oh wait.....other people? small groups???? (sigh) hmmmm well, since one of the groups might have a cute girl, I'd think about her....I want my surgery to be so that I can be sure to be sensate lol. Thats whats slowin me up now :P

But you did say high quatlity.......

Ah, the one who didn't like transpeople. I'd hide from them till I charted their moves and then kill them all. Theres not exactly a jail to lock me up in. Pin it on wild creatures. Kill or be killed; I must do what I must do

as for the group thing, well it could be in real life too really if you think about it. Groups of people that will accept, groups of people that are haters? Have the groups of people that hate us stopped us all so far?

Also I'd do what Evan would do if it was dangerous I'd somehow kill them. :P

Free, fast, and quality transition? You must be joking me. Where do I sign up?! I'd do this yesterday if I could, even if there were no one else left.

Thanks Donna Jean!

This made me realize that I'm a bit concerned about 'Passing', even after HRT and SRS. Hadn't considered that the other group wouldn't be able to tell.

I appreciate your answers!

Hi Gin!

Yes, it would be extremely sad, the only hope would be if there was still at least one other person around to share life with.

Hi Evan,

Haha! I see you becoming the absolute leader of whoever is left! Great, confident answer. After seeing yours, I thought hmm, maybe if I could reprogram the robot AFTER surgery I could make a stand until the friendly group showed up....

Thanks!

Hi LeeAsher,

Well if the transphobes could somehow be educated, and their hate chased away, it might help for long-term survival for everyone.

Hi Pol,

Forgive me for not correctly spelling your name. I hope that advances in medicine and science will allow for early detection and treatment. Your's and the other comments have sure helped me on aspects that I will need to discuss with a therapist, assuming I can find one in the area.

Thanks!

yup... no one would know... until they expected you to breed to repopulate the world. I suppose you could lie, but I'm sure there would be complete chaos and turmoil and there would probably be mandatory "inspections" to test ones fertility in a world such as this. One proper examination of ANY trans persons genitalia/sex organs would out you.

However I'd still transition even if it meant a life of being completely alone.

Never said it was "fair", said it was true lol. And something you should know: running from a thing only makes it want to chase you.

<-- can't help but wonder if you want a baby Ash.

And no its not a proposition  a ) I remember you're married. b ) Mary Ellen is never that far away LOL

But the quickness with which you went to that topic made it occur to me.

Suppose, just suppose, the "high quality" was that high. That you could reproduce as a woman. Yeah, you could discern some faint clue that the person transitioned so as to keep the anti group applicable, but trans people could repopulate the world. What would you do?

And why would you need to be alone even if you couldn't reproduce?

Yes actually, I'd love to have a baby. The absolute thought of it gives me such a wonderful feeling until the reality sets in and I remember that it will NEVER happen for me. It's probably why I have such a huge problem with my being trans.

Wait... am I just your 2nd choice behind Mary Ellen? lol

I could only dream for a time when our surgery was so good that we could reproduce the way we were meant to.

I was just saying that if in a world such as the one mentioned, there was a group of people who were not trans friendly, I'd still transition but stay away from that group.

Good Friday Morning    I will be spending a good portion of my day at church today.  I don’t know how any of my family would have been with me.  They all passed before I figured myself out.  I often think my mother and sister may have figured it out before I did but maybe it was just my depression that they saw.  I don’t know and never will.  My grandfather Young unconditionally loved me but he passed when I was 9.   Same with my wife’s parents, both gone before.  We’ve never had the greatest relationship with my wife’s brother but we do see them occasionally.  They words and actions aren’t always in sink when it comes to me.   Sour kraut or boil cabbage were never big even with my parents so that was something we were never expected to eat.  Nor was anything with mustard.  My mother hated mustard and it turns my stomach. My wife tried to sneak it into things early in our marriage but I could always tell.  She stopped after a while.   well I wave to go get ready to go to church.  I have a committee meeting at 10 and then we have a Good Friday Service at noon.   Willow

Good morning everyone,   @KymmieLI hope you're misreading your bosses communications. As you say keep plugging a long. Don't give them signs that you're slow quitting, just to collect unemployment.   I have a few things to do business wise, and will be driving to the St. Louis, MO area for two family gatherings.   Have a great day,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning everyone, TGIFF   It seems like I am the one keeping or shop from being the best. According to the boss. I don't know if my days are numbered or not. But anymore I am waiting for the axe to fall. Time will tell.   I keep plugging a long.   Kymmie

AMUSEMENT The feeling when you encounter something silly, ironic, witty, or absurd, which makes you laugh. You have the urge to be playful and share the joke with others. Similar words: Mirth Amusement is the emotional reaction to humor. This can be something that is intended to be humorous, like when someone tells a good joke or when a friend dresses up in a ridiculous costume. But it can also be something that you find funny that was not intended to be humorous, like when you read a sign with a spelling error that turns it into an ironic pun. For millennia, philosophers and scholars have been attempting to explain what exactly it is that makes something funny. This has led to several different theories. Nowadays, the most widely accepted one is the Incongruity Theory, which states that something is amusing if it violates our standards of how things are supposed to be. For example, Charlie Chaplin-style slapstick is funny because it violates our norms of competence and proper conduct, while Monty Python-style absurdity is funny because it violates reason and logic. However, not every standard or norm violation is necessarily funny. Violations can also evoke confusion, indignation, or shock. An important condition for amusement is that there is a certain psychological distance to the violation. One of the ways to achieve this is captured by the statement ‘comedy is tragedy plus time’. A dreadful mistake today may become a funny story a year from now. But it can also be distant in other ways, for instance, because it happened to someone you do not know, or because it happens in fiction instead of in real life. Amusement also needs a safe and relaxed environment: people who are relaxed and among friends are much more likely to feel amused by something. A violation and sufficient psychological distance are the basic ingredients for amusement, but what any one person find funny will depend on their taste and sense of humor. There are dozens of ‘humor genres’, such as observational comedy, deadpan, toilet humor, and black comedy. Amusement is contagious: in groups, people are more prone to be amused and express their amusement more overtly. People are more likely to share amusement when they are with friends or like-minded people. For these reasons, amusement is often considered a social emotion. It encourages people to engage in social interactions and it promotes social bonding. Many people consider amusement to be good for the body and the soul. By the end of the 20th century, humor and laughter were considered important for mental and physical health, even by psychoneuroimmunology researchers who suggested that emotions influenced immunity. This precipitated the ‘humor and health movement’ among health care providers who believed that humor and laughter help speed recovery, including in patients suffering from cancer1). However, the evidence for health benefits of humor and laughter is less conclusive than commonly believed2. Amusement is a frequent target of regulation: we down-regulate it by shifting our attention to avoid inappropriate laughter, or up-regulate it by focusing on a humorous aspect of a negative situation. Interestingly, amusement that is purposefully up-regulated has been found to have the same beneficial physical and psychological effects as the naturally experienced emotion. Amusement has a few clear expressions that emerge depending on the intensity of the emotion. When people are mildly amused, they tend to smile or chuckle. When amusement intensifies, people laugh out loud and tilt or bob their head. The most extreme bouts of amusement may be accompanied by uncontrollable laughter, tears, and rolling on the floor. Most cultures welcome and endorse amusement. Many people even consider a ‘good sense of humor’ as one of the most desirable characteristics in a partner. At the same time, most cultures have (implicit) rules about what is the right time and place for amusement. For example, displays of amusement may be deemed inappropriate in situations that demand seriousness or solemness, such as at work or during religious rituals.
