"The Shop Around The Corner" Remade as "You've Got Mail"

"An Affair To Remember"

"Brief Encounter"

"Pillow Talk"

"Barefoot In The Park"

"Splash"

"Romancing The Stone"

"Working Girl"

"Beaches"

"The Princess Bride"

That's all for now except one for the guys too - "Brian's Song" (1971 - with Billy Dee Williams and James Caan)

You are allowed to cry during this one guys!

Even the theme can evoke a few tears, here is the best recording in my opinion from Brass on Ivory - Henry Mancini and Doc Severinsen.

Love ya,

Sally

<_< Dumbest story in the world. Sorry , has to do with being "pushed" to having him for a class hero.

I am sorry, I have had a few really good books destroyed by having them forced at me by schools and teachers I didn't like.

People should be allowed to pick their own heroes.

The bond between the two men was amazing and I never cared for all of the people talking about the racial part of it - a non factor to me as it has always been, I just loved the theme of the dedication between the wo friends and team mates at a time of extreme homophobia most 'buddy films' included a lot of fist sights between the two men to reassure the audience that they were straight - only the appearance of their wives in the film.

I still think it is a great film, I am sorry that you cannot enjoy it.

Love ya,

Sally

Love Actually - follows the story of like 10 couples in the UK. Amazing cast! Not much crying though... entirely happy :D

Remember Me - A-MAZING new release movie. The less you know the better. It has Edward from Twilight and Claire from Lost (with an American accent!) in it. Warning: will make you cry.

Seven Pounds - Great movie with Will Smith. Unique story - another "the less you know the better" film.

A Walk to Remember - explosively sad. I haven't seen it for a few years, though... need to watch it again.

Love Story - classic!! "love is never having to say you're sorry"... written by the same guy who wrote yellow submarine I think

Chocolat - Johnny Depp.

Mamma Mia - this is especially good if you like ABBA

Notting Hill - Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts... predictable plot, but very well done! funny and tear-jerk-y in parts

500 Days of Summer - amazing indie film that was creatively done. it skips around the past 500 days of a couple's relationship

He's Just Not That Into You - again, predictable plot, but well done IMO. funniest parts are the "talking heads" of women with relationship advice

Looks like most of the classics are covered. Mean Girls is my favorite recent chick flick. I freakin <3 that movie. After that Lindsay Lohan became...well, what she is now.

Also, I don't see Heathers anywhere on this thread. Very much a dark comedy with chick flick elements. One of Winnona Riders best films ever imo.

Interesting side story to 'Brian's Song'. I grew up in Chicago in the 50's and 60's and Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo were written about all the time (and practically legends during that time). I even watched some games. Most of the story is true. And it is a very touching story.

I like all those Frank Capra mushy movies - Mr Deeds Goes to Town, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, A Wonderful Life. Jean Arthur, Donna Reed, and Ingrid Bergman (from Casablanca). Now those were heroines to adore.

Though Laura Linney, Meg Ryan for a few golden movies, and a few other current leads are close.

Hugs,

Chloë

I just LOVE chick flicks, funny my wife avoids them like the plague. I see that NotClaire has mentioned it but to me Notting Hill is at the top of the list. It would be utterly impossible for me to not be sobbing like a baby at the ending. I love all of Julia Roberts movie's. My wife and me are opposites, sometimes I think she is trans.

But anyways in our house she watches horror and action macho stuff and I watch love stories and romance and I'm the one that ends up with wet eye's and runny makeup.

Love, Chandra

I have always loved the 30s classic films. Frank Capra was so good -his films are classics-not just as "chick flicks".

At least I finally understand why the moden chick flicks just never worked for me.

Give me Shrek or Pirates any day.:)

eh, even over a year of HRT i still can't stomach those kind of movies, the last handful of movies i watched were; Ghost in a Shell-stand alone complex second gig- individual eleven, Ma Vei en Rose, Ready to Rumble, GI Jane, Brewster's Millions, District nine, Powder Blue(VERY good), Suspect Zero(awesome),and Necrosis. So, ya.. some of the movies listed I have seen, but frankly chick flick/romantic comedies don't do it for me, they are all so formulaic and predictable... both my sister s in law watch them, and they make me wanna laugh how shallow and boring they are.

Chocolat

Finding Neverland

The Man Who Cried

And for the Aussies here-

Arizona Dream

All of these movies are Johnny Depp flicks. Unfortunately Arizona Dream was only released in Australia. So If you want it you have to get it from some place like eBay. I haven't checked in several years to see if it has been brought here to the USA, so my info may be old on it.

But all of these movies are great chick flicks.

Eat Pray Love,

My wonderful spouse and I watched this last night. We started with her on the couch and me in the EZ chair. We ended it with both of us on the couch in each others arms. We are so lucky to have each other. My word is “Life” what is yours?

Somewhere In Time

I watch that & think "I only wish. . ."

Jane Seymour as an early, liberated woman (her character was modeled after Maud Adams.) Although it was rather amusing to watch and see which guy she's going to wind up with, her manager or the love struck, time traveling Christopher Reeve. (In real life, both Maud Adams and her manager were gay.)

I watch the scene over and over where Reeve's character, to kill time before dinner, strolls the hotel Hall of Fame and comes face to face with the Seymour painting. And oh the music! I imagine myself, in similar straits, finding a portrait of the late Evelyn Nesbit back in the Nineteen teens, and then hunkering down for some serious time travel attempts.

Children of a Lesser God

I don't want to give much away. But it deals with a person who is disabled and what happens in her life. I cried many times.

As has been said many times, this is not a black and white issue. Sure.  I get it that a MtF person that has gone through full male puberty and "transitioned" 6 months ago probably has an advantage in some sports.  But these bans affect elementary school kids too. I mean, banning trans women from Darts?  Chess?

Good morning    Now @Abigail Genevieve and @Mmindy what makes you so certain I didn’t mean it to say bee itch certificate?  lol. Thanks Mindy. I was asleep when you saw this and fixed it, and yes Abigail, as a moderator I could have fixed it myself, or weren’t you pointing out the irony of that?   I use Alexis as my alarm to get up.  And I set the ringer to be two guys telling me to get up.  I was so sound asleep when they started telling me to get up that it scared me and my first thought were I had over slept.  Since I have a difficult time getting to sleep as early as I have to in order to get enough sleep I at least cut back my normal awake time to get ready.  But now I have to do my hair and get going.   enjoyed my coffee and a little time catching up   see you all later, for its hi ho hi ho it’s off to work I go.   Willow

Republicans have long committed grave errors by emphasizing their social agenda and moral issues instead of just focusing on the economy, lowering taxes, keeping the public safe, building a strong national defense, promoting business, touting reasonable immigration policies, etc.   The country would thrive economically under Trump's tax and business policies. That's a fact. Another four years of Biden will run this country into the ground financially (including all of our 401Ks and IRAs). But the GOP continues to play right into the Dems' hands by leading with their moral crusades instead of staying the course and trusting their fiscal policies to win the day...

LGBTQ rights Project 2025 takes extreme positions against LGBTQ rights, seeking to eliminate federal protections for queer people and pursue research into conversion therapies in order to encourage gender and sexuality conformity. The policy book also lays out plans to criminalize being transgender and prohibit federal programs from supporting queer people through various policies. The project partnered with anti-LGBTQ groups the Family Policy Alliance, the Center for Family and Human Rights, and the Family Research Council. Project 2025 calls for the next secretary of Health and Human Services to “immediately put an end to the department’s foray into woke transgender activism,” which includes removing terms related to gender and sexual identity from “every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists.” The Trump administration proposed a similar idea in 2018 that would have resulted in trans people losing protections under anti-discrimination laws. [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023; The New Republic, 2/8/24] Similarly, the policy book calls for HHS to stop all research related to gender identity unless the purpose is conformity to one's sex assigned at birth. The New Republic explains: “That is, research on gender-nonconforming children and teenagers should be funded by the government, but only for the purpose of studying what will make them conform, such as denying them gender-affirming care and instead trying to change their identities through ‘counseling,’ which is a form of conversion therapy.” [The New Republic, 2/8/24] The policy book’s foreword by Kevin Roberts describes “the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children” as “pornography” that “should be outlawed,” adding, “The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned.” Roberts also says that “educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shuttered.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023] Roberts’ foreword states that “allowing parents or physicians to ‘reassign’ the sex of a minor is child abuse and must end.” Echoing ongoing right-wing attacks on trans athletes, Roberts also claims, “Bureaucrats at the Department of Justice force school districts to undermine girls’ sports and parents’ rights to satisfy transgender extremists.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023; TIME magazine, 5/16/22] Dame Magazine reports that Project 2025 plans to use the Department of Justice to crack down on states that “do not charge LGBTQ people and their allies with crimes under the pretense that they are breaking federal and state laws against exposing minors to pornography.” [Dame Magazine, 8/14/23] Project 2025 also calls for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to repeat “its 2016 decision that CMS could not issue a National Coverage Determination (NCD) regarding ‘gender reassignment surgery’ for Medicare beneficiaries.” The policy book’s HHS chapter continues: “In doing so, CMS should acknowledge the growing body of evidence that such interventions are dangerous and acknowledge that there is insufficient scientific evidence to support such coverage in state plans.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023] Going further, Project 2025 also demands that the next GOP administration “reverse policies that allow transgender individuals to serve in the military.” The policy book’s chapter on the Defense Department claims: “Gender dysphoria is incompatible with the demands of military service, and the use of public monies for transgender surgeries … for servicemembers should be ended.” [Project 2025, Mandate for Leadership, 2023]   …summaries of what’s within the rest of the document re: LGBTQ+ concerns. A person can believe their gender is fixed but incongruent with their physiology, but the authors and Trump (by his own words) just see the incongruity of an “expressed gender” that conflicts with what was/is in a person’s pants.
