So Far Away From The Finish Line

Looking back over the past 3 years

So much has changed in my life

Some of these changes are still playing out

As i try to understand them.

Where shall i begin

Not really sure for the right spot

Rather impressions which comes to my mind

Of events past and current

Blurring together into a collage

Emotions cresting the top of a mesa

Only come crashing down in the jagged canyon floor.

My life seems to more reactionary

Than in control of events

Wondering what am i doing wrong?

Several people describe me

A strong woman and survivor

Yet why don't i feel like it

Does being a survivor mean

I've manage to avoid the pitfall of

Having to work the streets for shelter

Or take drugs and alcohol to numb the pain.

Oblivious to the trap

I've created for my own self

Isolation impulsive shopping and phobias

Naming a few of them

Knowing there several more that i could have listed

But these

Are but a few.

Struggling to keep myself above water

While dealing with the aftermath

From the events' physical and emotional scars

Often barely healed decades later

Covered by thin scabs.

Guess it's easier to find fault with oneself

Than to realize the milestones passed

Either way i still have to heal myself

Just some days it reaches a point

I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi therisa,

< hug >>>>>

I like your poem :)

Try and not worry to about the destination of your life.

Just enjoy the ride :)

Exactly!

There is no real "finish line" just a lot of little victories along the way that add up to success!

In my way of thinking the finish line for this life is not something that I am eager to reach - I want to spend a little time finally enjoying and celebrating who I really am.

Life each day for all that it has to offer and then the next and the next - never worry about how many have been wasted, they are already gone and never worry about what is going to happen next - that is the future and we cannot see it until it arrives.

Love ya,

Sally

Some people will say the journey is as importnat as the end line - probably more so. And I can promise you this from years of life experience - what you think you want, and what you think you are gonna get? Never exactly turns out to be exactly like you expected!

I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Honey, there ain't no light at the end of the tunnel - the light is inside you - always has been, is now, always will be.

Except, it gets a little muddy, walking through the puddles of life.

I will tell you a secret about depression - it is not a tunnel and there is no light at the end - it is a pit and there is light all around but you need a friend to offer you their hand to help you out.

I am here to offer you that hand because my friends offered theirs to me.

Love ya,

Sally
