Eyebrow Shaping

My eyebrows aren't thick, and are gray to boot, so I've had to use pencil or jell to fill them in. But they didn't have a feminine

shape, and I wanted to fix that, while not getting them too feminine looking. So I called a local place, and they weren't busy, so I went over.

The proprietor was a very nice woman who advertised the "Indian thread" method of eyebrow shaping. If she gave any hint

of knowing I was trans she didn't show it, despite working around my wig. The process only took a few minutes, barely hurt at all,

and after putting some eyeshadow color on them, they looked exactly like I had hoped. More feminine and tapered, but not too much,

and more visible. The shade goes perfect with my brunette wig.

All these efforts to improve our appearance sometimes seem excessive, but outward appearance counts for a lot, whether you're a genetic

woman or a transwoman. It's all part of self-esteem and self confidence, and its worth a few bucks. I'm worth a few bucks. :D

"I am a woman, and I am worth it!"

I do not regret getting my eyebrows shaped earlier this year. Pretty easy to keep them maintained now I know where to pluck. May the journey be a pleasant one.

I'm happy for you Carolyn and am glad you've gained the courage to have your brows done. I've been going for a few months to my brow specialist from Gadabout. She knows I am trans and has no problem with it. We've been working on how to shape my brows and not be so obvious at work. Each month she worked on making my brows smaller and not so shaggy. I have a natural arch and we've refined it. This month my brows are at the edge of a woman's brow. And next month should be totally female, although at the more noticeable end. I can't wait. Of course I'm not so concerned at work because trans is protected all around. I'm sure some suspect and others know something is different about me. Nevertheless, I'm moving at a pace that my co-workers are accepting the changes.

I really hope you are able to become more who you are without the fear of negative consequences to your life. You are a friendly person who cares for others and believe those around you who know you understand this. They should accept you no matter who you are.

That is great Caroline :)

Thanks for sharing with us.

I have found that many nail salons do eyebrows too.

Here most use hot wax , cost like $10

Congrats Carolyn. It feels so good to have them cleaned up a little doesn't it. Now you are shaping, that is wonderful.

Vanna they do it at the nail salon I go to. I am actually getting mine cleaned up again this Friday. They only charge $10 which is fine with me as long as I don't have to pluck them. :)

Yes....I need to get that done, too....

I've worked mine over with tweezers so much that I'm not even sure where they go anymore...

I ned to get a pro-job!

I had my eyebrows shaped only once and have maintained them by plucking, the interesting thing is that it was at the same salon where I had my ears pierced, which a few years ago.

I must admit that I have a fairly high arched eyebrows which make shaping a pretty easy task

Patricia

So how was it to get them threaded?

I've heard it's not as painful as waxing or tweezing but the process is similar as to how the hairs are removed.

Care to elaborate on the experience?

Lizzie, I wasn't in the best position to observe the technique (kind of like asking a patient to comment on the skill of a proctologist :P ).

However...they take a small length of thread or string, make it really taught, wrap it around a few hairs, and do whatever they do

to yank the hairs out. It sounds much more painful than it was. It felt like getting stung by a small rubber band. I didn't even

say "ouch." :) It took less than 10 minutes for both brows. Hope that helps.

I was going to start a new topic and then I saw Carolyn's and thought this was an appropriate thread to ask my question.

I was reading else where on the differences between men and women's eyebrows. Men's tend to be right on or just a tab below the supraorbital rims and women above it. So...how have you girls shaped your brows so that they look more like a genetic girl? Or...have any of you had any brow lift plastic surgery?

For the benefit of 'double life' CD's like me, what is the best way to 'interchange' between male and female eyebrows short of shaving them off entirely?

I havent tried, but MsAmethyst suggested in response to one of my posts, hiding your natural eyebrows with glue-stick and then using make-up (eyeliner pencil?) to draw feminine ones on. Apparently there is a youtube video somewhere that shows how to...

Sounds like a good idea. I thought using styling wax or something might also work, but wondering if anyone had a better idea

I tried the glue stick and cover that with concealer and/or foundation. I didn't have real good luck with it myself, but I only tried it once. If I tried the method a couple of times I think I may have abetter chance of it working better for me. I have had my eyebrows waxed at a salon a few times and lately I just clean up my brows with tweezers. I wish I could just go all thge way and have my eyebrows waxed a lot and left much thinner but I am living as a male most of the time. I only dress up at home and to scared to go out in public ,yet.

Learned How to do the threading Watching a tutorial on you tube... takes some coordination like chewing gum while patting your head and rubbing your tummy, but really works and not to bad on the pain, which is always less than the pain of having bushy eyebrows

I've been slowly moving my brows north and thinner. Seems to make a big difference and got a question about what color i used on them by a young woman. would like to have them done by a pro. And at the same time as a per and manicure....Heaven.,

The asian girl that does my nails also does my brows . I am light haired so when not at work I wear my contacts and use masscra to lighty brush over to give me definition. Works well and they look so natural. When going for glamour look I use an eyebrow pencil to match my hair or wig . I am careful to no longer pluck my brows these days since I have made them too thin and had to live with those nasty results.
